Summary[edit]

Description
English: U.S. Navy pilots and rear gunners of scouting squadron VS-5. VS-5 flew the Douglas SBD-2/-3 Dauntless dive bomber from the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) during the ship's 1942 operations, including at the Battles of Coral Sea and Midway. The photo was taken aboard the USS Enterprise (CV-6) in July 1942, from which VS-5 operated after the loss of Yorktown at Midway. The squadron commander, Turner F. Caldwell, is seated in front, right.
