Summary[edit]

Description
English: Millington, Tenn. (Jun. 2, 2003) -- The Navy's history of “Zero Tolerance” with relation to illegal drug use clearly shows dramatic gains in the reduction of illicit drug use. In 1982, the first year of urinalysis screening, the percentage of positive samples was 7.21 percent. Statistics through the end of April 2003 show that percentage of positive samples at 0.47. “Zero Tolerance” is defined as "all personnel found guilty of a single incident of drug use must be processed for administrative separation." This has proven to be quite effective, as is revealed in a worldwide survey of health related behaviors sponsored by the Department of Defense in 1998. The U.S. Navy was singled out as the only military service with a "significant decrease in drug use since 1995." U.S. Navy graphic. (RELEASED)
