Description
English: Fort Story, Va. (June 08, 2006) - The crew aboard the Transport Tanker SS Chesapeake is preparing a single anchor leg moor (SALM) to be slid over the side of the ship and during exercise Delmar. The SALM is used to keep the ship at anchor during replenishment of fuel and supplies to shore activities. DELMAR is organized by the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and will challenge a variety of units to jointly provide humanitarian assistance to an area devastated by a natural disaster. The focus of the exercise for the month of June is based around the Hampton Roads area if it were to be hit by a major hurricane. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class Robert R.
