Summary[edit]

Author
Dirck van Delen and Hieronymus Janssens
Object type painting
object_type QS:P31,Q3305213
Description
English: Perspective Fantasy of a Palace, with Elegant Figures

attributed to Dirck van Delen (Heusden 1604/5 - Arnemuiden 1671) and Hieronymus Janssens (1624-1693), Oil on panel, 692 x 902 mm, National Trust

The painting bears the signature of Hans Vredeman de Vries on the base of the columns at the right. However, it is believed to be the collaborative work of Dirck van Delen and Hieronymus Janssens. Van Delen probably painted the architectural setting, while Janssens may have added the figures. Even though Hans Vredeman de Vries painted similar architectural pieces, his work was mainly known through his prints, and it was probably on the basis of such a print that this picture was created.
