Summary[edit]

Description
English: This image depicts a vessel, possibly a Pearl-class cruiser of the Royal Navy, in the middle of the Brisbane River. There are four small dinghies on its side and one platform with several men standing on it directly beside the vessel. There is another small boat at the rear of the vessel. Beyond the vessel can be seen businesses and housing beside the river at Kangaroo Point including 'George Peacock and Sons, Manufacturers of Jams, Pickles, Preserved Fruits', which was inundated by the Brisbane flood of 1893 and 'J Edwards Boat Builder'.

The photograph was taken by John Cameron from an original glass plate taken by P C Poulsen from a collection of photographic negatives of original glass plate images from the 1890s-1930s.
