Nederlands: Eigen gemaakte afbeelding. De spreiding van het kenmerk (het aantal doden in de VS op snelwegen/interstates) is gefaked, maar berust op het werkelijk aantal doden (42.636) in 2004, en een snelwegenlengte van 50.000 mijl. Er is uitgegaan, om een voorbeeld te hebben, dat dit aantal doden over de staten evenredig is met het aandeel van de snelweglengte in die staat maal (de bevolking in die staat)^(0,5), en dat het aantal doden per staat gelijk verdeeld is over alle snelwegen in die ene staat, rekening houdend met de lengte van de individuele snelwegen. Deze aannames zijn behalve aanvechtbaar ook discutabel. Snelwegen bij steden zullen meer doden kennen. orde van grootte is echter reeel, daarmee kan deze kaart als voorbeeld dienen voor cartografische doeleinden, maar niet voor VS-illustraties.
