Description
Nederlands: Marmeren Romeinse sarcofaag. APM 10.854. Ca 260-280 n. Chr.

Rond 100 n. Chr. werden de doden door de Romeinen niet meer gecremeerd maar bijgezet in marmeren sarcofagen. De sarcofagen werden vaak versierd met mythologische taferelen. In dit geval staat de god Dionysus centraal. In zijn gevolg zien we de vrouwelijke volgelingen van de god van de wijn die muziek maken en een bokje offeren.
