Summary[edit]
DescriptionWestminster Presbyterian Church Auburn.jpg | The Westminster Presbyterian Church at 17 William Street in Auburn, New York was founded in 1861 by 66 abolitionists who followed Rev. Henry Fowler in leaving the Second Presbyterian Church after Fowler publicly prayed for the soul of John Brown. The charter of the new Central Presbyterian Church became official in 1862, and worship began in a basement space, where Harriet Tubman married to Charles Nelson Davis in 1869. That year, the congregation purchased the current property from William H. Seward, and laid the cornerstone of the church, which was expanded in 1887, and, in 1910, Tiffany windows were donated to the church. In 1921 Second and Central Presbyterian Churches re-united as Second Presbyterian, which, in 1968, merged with Westminster Presbyterian, a congregation founded in 1885 with a church in the west end of Auburn.
