Summary[edit]

Description
English: Dragon Snake / Java Tubercle Snake / Xenodermus javanicus (Reinhardt, 1836). Species monotypic from family Xenodermidae, includes only one genus Xenodermus and in this genus there is only one species Xenodermus javanicus.

Named from Greek, Xeno : "strange" and derma : "skin", referring to the unusual skin in the species.

The species is rare and seldom encountered, common in Java but is most common between 500 and 1100 mdpl. It is semi-fossorial and occurs in damp areas near water including forest, swamps and river.
