Summary[edit]

Description
English: Zebra-shark (Stegostoma fasciatum)

This is quite a big shark, normally about 2,3 m long. Half of this length belongs to the dorsal fin without lower paddle. Only young sharks look like zebras. They are brown above and yellowish below and have long yellow vertical stripes. While the shark grows and reaches the length of 50-90 cm the stripes become wider and bigger and the media between them breaks into small brown spots. Adult shark is yellow with many spots. They the more uniformly distributed the bigger the shark is. The biology of the zebra-shark is sketchy. The shark regularly has solitaire behavior but was seen also in groups. More active at nights. Feeds on mollusks and crabs. Looking for food zebra-shark is capable to squirm into crevices and tunnels. Prefers small depth (before 50 m).
