Translatable version

Could we have a translatable SVG version? Well, I think I saw that functionality somewhere, but actually I don't know where to look at. --Psychoslave (talk) 19:58, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

It looks like the software used to create this SVG file converted some of the strings to paths/curves so they are not letters anymore when I open the SVG with the Inkscape software. (I didn't create the SVG so that's all I know.) :( Regarding translation itself, mw:Extension:TranslateSvg exists but is not deployed on Wikimedia servers (and no idea if that code base would still work as expected). --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:51, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi AKlapper (WMF), Psychoslave, yes, what Andre says is correct: I used Adobe Illustrator to create the graphic, and I have to convert text to curves when I save as svg, otherwise it flips the text in weird ways, or changes the font. That is the only solution I have found to the problem. If you know of any other steps I could take when saving as svg, that would allow to keep the text as such, please let me know. Thank you! I asked graphic designer colleagues and they were not able to give me a solution to manage this problem within Adobe Illustrator. However, according to a web designer colleague, if you provide the non-curved svg version, it might be possible to do some CSS styling, using a text editor for example. Happy update

Psychoslave AKlapper (WMF), I was able to export to SVG keeping the editable text. Before, for some reason that exceeded my understanding of SVG format, it was not possible to save as svg and keep the file editable (text and lines). I'm not sure why it worked now, but when I flattened transparency, I chose not to convert to outlines, and it renders well (I tried this last year, and it was not rendering well when uploading to Commons). Hopefully you are still interested in translating this? In any case, we appreciate any efforts in spreading the word about how we support communities in the Community Engagement department . @MCruz (WMF): Thanks. Did the font get changed somehow? Because both the SVG itself (in Firefox 54) and the thumbnails in PNG format render some text unreadable. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:22, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Still up for translation, but I will have to look again at what the process to translate them. I remember that a single svg file can contain multiple translations, but don't remember how to generate such a file. If you have any clue, please give me a hint.
