August 2010 version an improvement?[edit]

The August 2010 version of this image appears to be from the same source as the 2006 version but roughly modified:

  • softened (esp. for the harsh JPEG artifacts, but they're still noticeable in the new version)
  • darkened (to hide specks on the original?)
  • enlarged (by about 9% to be 1000 pixels wide)
  • re-saved (at higher quality to avoid more JPEG artifacts)

The darkness detracts from the image in my opinion (Washington fades into the background) and the other changes aren't significant improvements. Mrwojo (talk) 23:42, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted it. Stylized versions should be uploaded over the original.  Docu  at 11:56, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date?[edit]

The picture was not painted (Artist dead), but "completed" in 1846 - as explained beneath. --?--J. K. H. Friedgé (talk) 08:20, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Current caption: "Portrait of George Washington (c. 1797). Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, Massachusetts mad to be the president"

"mad to be the president" is obvious vandalism that should be deleted, but the page is protected. Please remove. 82.176.221.176 06:10, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
