Deutsch: Der Ort wird erstmals 838 urkundlich erwähnt. Der Ortsname leitet sich vom althochdeutschen hreod ab und bedeutet Moos oder mit Sumpfgras bewachsener Boden. Darauf weisen die Rohrkolben im Wappen hin. Die Unterscheidung in Ober-, Mittel- und Unterrieden taucht ab dem 13. Jahrhundert auf. Niederrieden war zunächst Unterrieden. Seit dem 15.und 17. Jahrhundert bildeten sich die bis heute gebräuchlichen Namen Nieder- und Oberrieden heraus. Der Abtstab weist auf das Kloster Ottobeuren, das bereits in päpstlichen Schutzbriefen von 1152 und 1235 als Grundherr erscheint. Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde Ottobeuren größter Grundherr in Niederrieden. Der Ort blieb bis zur Säkularisation 1802 in Klosterbesitz. Auch die Farben Silber und Rot aus dem Klosterwappen erinnern an die Zugehörigkeit zum Kloster. |
