Español: La Plaza de Los Héroes corresponde a una traza fundacional de la Villa Santa Cruz de Triana, que comprendía 64 manzanas, con la plaza en el centro cortada en cruz por dos calles (la Cruz de Triana).
Su fundador, el Gobernador José Antonio Manso de Velasco, en octubre de 1743, le da esta forma especial que sólo la tienen cinco plazas fundacionales de América. El 1º y 2 de octubre de 1814 fue escenario de la Batalla de Rancagua, donde se puso fin al período de la Independencia de Chile llamado la “Patria Vieja” y en donde el generar Bernado O’Higgins con un número reducido de patriotas resiste por dos días cercado por las fuerzas realistas. En el centro de la plaza se ha erguido un monumento ecuestre en honor a O’Higgins, que recuerda este importante acontecimiento histórico. Su borde suroriente es el más antiguo, en donde se encuentran la Gobernación de Cachapoal, la Casa Parroquial y la Catedral. La plaza de Rancagua es única, no puede confundirse con otra. Hablar de esta plaza es referirse al lugar que dio origen a la ciudad y desde la que se extendió hacia los cuatro vientos a partir de dos calles, ejes principales, dándola la singularidad de una plaza en cruz.
