Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 27. August 1973 von der Bezirksregierung Trier genehmigt. Das Kreuz weißt auf die früere Herrschaft über große Teile des heutigen Kreisgebiets durch Kurtrier hin. Der Turm ist dem ältesten Siegel der Propstei und der Stadt Bitburg entnommen, welcher früher ein großer Verwaltungsbezirk Luxemburgs war. Das Lamm steht für das ehemalige Fürstentum Prüm, zu dessen Herrschaftsbereich der nördliche Teil des Kreisgebietes gehörte. Es ist das Symbol der Kirchen und Klöster, die dem Salvator (Erlöser) geweiht waren. Die Farben Silber und Blau sind dem Wappen Luxemburgs, zu dessen Herrschaftsbereich der südliche Teil des Kreisgebietes gehörte, entnommen.
English: The arms were granted on August 27, 1973. The upper part of the arms is derived from the arms of the former Bitburg district; they show the cross of the Electorate of Trier and the tower of Bitburg city. The Paschal Lamb, or Agnus Dei, is derived from the former Prüm district arms. The fourth quarter is derived from the arms of Luxembourg, as the southern part of the district historically belonged to the County (later Duchy) of Luxembourg for many years.
