Nasi goreng is an Indonesian fried rice dish that gained prominence internationally. It is served everywhere in Indonesia, from humble street vendors, to five-star hotels and upscale restaurants, with uncountable number of variations and recipes, with some influence from Chinese cuisine and the locality cuisine. In home cooking usually (as with fried rice in other countries) cooked with leftover food and dishes from previous day. Optional toppings and condiments include: a sunny side egg (usually called "nasi goreng spesial"), fried shallots, Indonesian crackers (krupuk), Indonesian sambals, and fritters on the side. There are many variations and meat options. Vegetarian option is also available (without meat, eggs, shrimp cracker, and shrimp-paste sambal). In restaurants outside of Indonesia, the dish name is usually not translated in the menu. Considered national dish, it usually uses Indonesian soy sauce.
