This documentation is transcluded from Template:AD/sandbox/doc.
This is the sandbox version of the {{AD}} heavily used template.

Return the localized name of the AD/CE era (in the Julian or Gregorian calendars). May be formatted with superscripts for abbreviations (possibly with HTML titles for hints) according to conventions of the target language. Is is usually an abbreviation of "Anno Domini" or "common era".

Usage

{{AD}}

Other supported languages not listed in the example table below are pre-rendered above this documentation panel only for the 20th century. This template does not generate any indication of the type of Roman calendar (you may indicate if needed, within parentheses after the returned label, the precision for the Republican Roman, Julian, Revised Julian, or Gregorian calendar used, and if they are possibly proleptic).

This template may not be usable in all languages for calendars that are not based on a Roman calendar, because they have different orthographic conventions and don't necessarily refer to the same epoch for negative centuries, noted differently (e.g. for islamic calendars based on the Egere epoch).
