Why this template?[edit]

See talk of Template Scripted SVG. --Manuel (Diskussion) 08:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

SVG can be animated either by scripting or by declarative SMIL. While the uploading of files containing script is currently prevented, there is no problem with SMIL. Although the Mediawiki cannot display it, if the file is properly designed, RSVG will produce a viewable still .png from the initial state. Better than this, the original SVG file is stored on Commons and the animation can be seen running with a suitable browser. This template is intended to explain that. I have updated the /en version to reflect developments in browser capabilities, to clarify the explanation and to add numerous highly relevant links. Globbet (talk) 22:49, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Firefox 4.0 supports animated SVG (at least, the animated soccer ball works perfectly). --DSGalaktos (talk) 19:57, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

You can actually view them in some prior versions of browsers with Adobe SVG plugin installed... AnonMoos (talk) 04:29, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
