Hidden category[edit]

I suggest being careful in where {{CatMetaCat}} is used. It adds {{hiddencat}} to the category. I believe it should be used in categories that only editors would be interested in.

If some readers (other than editors) find the category useful, then I don't believe {{CatMetaCat}} should be used. Maybe use {{MetaCat}} or one of its other variations. --Timeshifter (talk) 02:09, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Category for pages using this template[edit]

(Ping ŠJů, Foroa)

Currently, this template puts pages in Category:Meta categories. However, strictly speaking, categories like Category:Categories of France are not metacategories (they don't have the form "x by y"), but they are categories collecting meta categories.

Thus I suggest to remove this autocategorize feature.

Furthermore there's still code in there to autocategorize in Category:Non-empty meta categories in case the category has more members than a given threshold, since this maintenance category has been deleted long ago, I guess the code can also be removed.

Thanks --Reinhard Müller (talk) 22:39, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Strictly speaking, Category:Categories of France is a metacategory. What is incorrect is the assumption that all metacategories have names with the form "x by y". Logically, a category which is named "Categories..." is intended specially for categories - that is the essential characteristic of metacategories. Features which should prevent from putting files and galeries into them are appropriate for them. --ŠJů (talk) 23:01, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I took the assumption that all metacategories have names with the form "x by y" from the category definition of Category:Meta categories, FWIW it already was there before I changed the text of that page. --Reinhard Müller (talk) 23:22, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
