User is from[edit]

Would you please modify this template to include language code of Wikipedia the user is from? This will also make Template:GFDL-user-en obsolete and enable its use for users of other Wikipedias. I would do that but it might require some bot-work to replace the old templates. Helix84 20:39, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need for that. As it is, the 2nd parameter specifies the project. For example, if I wanted to link to you on en: (assuming you have the same name...), I would use this: {{GFDL-user|1=Helix84|2=en}}

Header to seperate template[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Can you move the header (|author= parameter of {{Self}} template) to a subpage? Than it can used for other cases (e.g. a file relased under multiple licenses, a GFDL and a CC different from BY-SA-3.0). Thanks! --tacsipacsi (talk) 19:08, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please post a specific proposal for the subpage and this template. I fear I don't fully understand your intentions here (even don't know which header you are talking about (self-wrapper perhaps?). I regret that I can't spend more time on this issue right now. Thank you. -- Rillke(q?) 21:51, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

{{Editprotected}} This template should be reworked to rely on Template:User at project instead of Template:At WP, because it's not working correctly and it's incomplete, limited and imperfect. See what shows the template on this file page. --XXN, 20:41, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello XXN, can you please be more concrete what do you want? Add the "project" parameter or what? -- User: Perhelion 22:35, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Compare what produces
{{GFDL-user|Example user|2=uk}}
Example user from uk, the copyright holder of this work, hereby publishes it under the following license:

and

{{PD-user-w |user=Example user |language=uk |project= }}
This work has been released into the public domain by its author, Example user, at the Ukrainian Wikipedia project. This applies worldwide.

In case this is not legally possible:
Example user grants anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.

or

{{PD-user|Example user|uk}}

In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so:
Example user grants anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.

Code refactoring is needed. The way how {{GFDL-user}} looks to build and display the project name is primitive: {{#if:{{{2|}}}| {{#ifexist:Template:GFDL-user/{{{2}}}| {{GFDL-user/{{{2}}}}}| {{from loc}} [[:{{{2}}}:|{{{2}}}]] }} }} }}. And actually the template isn't working completely as expected; Template:GFDL-user/doc says that Parameter 2 = Wikipedia project/language code, but in fact introducing only language code isn't enough, see the transcluded example above. XXN, 12:48, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

 Oppose Hello XXN, the Template:User at project is not working here, because the common case is the Commons project and this template don't support Commons. May you can ask Magog the Ogre to made one/or compatibility. Anyway an additional parameter would to go beyond the scope. -- User: Perhelion 15:28, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is possible in theory - it shouldn't be hard to only include the template for non-Commons users. But I'm not going to write the code. I suggest User:XXN take ownership. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:51, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my late reply. From a while I have less and less free time, and a lot of problems IRL; I will not be able soon to spend the needed time for refactoring this template :( Also, I might be forced to suspend completely (or to reduce to minimum) my activity on WMF wikis for a long period of time... I withdrew my edit request from above. XXN, 13:53, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Double colons[edit]

{{Edit request}} The double colons are messing up the display, see here for details. Please fix the syntax.   — Jeff G. ツ 07:00, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
