This template is a gross misinterpretation of the Mexican law. The article says that the national, international and regional coats of arms are not eligible for protection under the Federal Copyright Law (in other words, that they are not eligible to be registered by a citizen or a private company) not that they are in the public domain. The National seal and most coats of arms are protected under different laws and its use outside official stationary or activities is strictly prohibited. See, for example, article 6 of the National Seal, National Flag and National Anthem Law:

  • El Escudo Nacional sólo podrá figurar en los vehículos que use el Presidente de la República, en el papel de las dependencias de los Poderes Federales y Estatales, así como de las municipalidades, pero queda prohibido utilizarlo para documentos particulares. El Escudo Nacional sólo podrá imprimirse y usarse en la papelería oficial, por acuerdo de la autoridad correspondiente.

The template also suggests that the UN, Olympics Committee, Red Cross logos, etc. are under the PD in Mexico, which is certainly not the case. - Esteban Zissou (talk) 07:33, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
