Queen Siri Raadha Abaarana Mahaa Rehendhi (Sultana Khadija), a 14th Century queen and her husband Mohamed El-Jameel giving an audience. The drawing is allegedly based on the writings of the fourteenth Century Moorish traveller Ibn Batuta, who on visiting Maldives was invited to stay as the Chief Justice(1347-1349). (For annotated selections from his writings, see Travels of Ibn Battuta (tr. by H. A. R. Gibb, 3 vol., rev. ed. 1958-71).

Illustration which appeared in an article in The Graphic depicts veranda sing (Fendaamathi Undholi) of royal palace, by the Englishmen CW Rosett. He visited Maldives in 25th October, 1885 and stayed in Malé, his purpose was to exhibit his findings at the Colonial and Indian exhibition.

Gan handover ceremony 29 March 1976: Flanked by the British Ambassador to the Maldives, Vice President Koli Ali Maniku receives the handover of Gan from Group Captain W. Edwards of the Royal Air Force. For the next two years, March 29 was marked as the Maldives Independence day until reverted back to July 26. Just above the Group Captain's forearm is Mr Kakaagey Ali Didi who was appointed as official in charge of Gan.

Agreement that gave the Maldives full political independence.Signed on behalf of His Majesty the Sultan by Ibrahim Nasir Rannabandeyri Kilegefan, Prime Minister and on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen by Sir Micheal Walker British Ambassador designate to the Maldive Islands. The Ceremony took place at the British High Commissioner's Residence in Colombo on 26 July 1965. Standing from left to right in the Maldive delegation: Mr Koli Ali Maniku Maldives Trade Representative in Colombo; Mr Kandi Ahmed Maniku, First Secretary Maldive Embassy in Colombo and Abdul Sattar Faamuladeyri Kilegefan Maldive Ambassador designate in Colombo.

Isdhoo Loamaafaanu, this is the oldest copper-plate book to be discovered in the Maldives (Isdhoo, Laamu Atoll} to date. The book was written in 1194 AD (590 AH) in Evēla form of the Divehi akuru, during the reign of Siri Fennaadheettha Mahaa Radun{Dhinei Kalaminja}. this isnt uploaded by me though

The short-lived republic of 1953 ended when the head of state Waliyyul Amr for Life (First in Command) Athireegey Mohamed Amin Dorhimeyna Kilegefan was removed from office while he was in Colombo. The Waliyyul Amr returned on a British amphibian aircraft and was arrested and detained in Doonidu Island. From there he staged a comeback early in the morning of 21 August 1953 which was foiled. He was set upon by the Male citizenry and brutally assaulted beyond belief, then tossed naked on to a boat. The photograph shows this event in progress.

Thinadhu Hakim Didi.jpg
Hakim Didi (Faditha veriyaa a Pandit of the dark arts)and his alleged accomplices under arrest in Male, 1953. They were from Thinadhu Huvadu Atoll and were convicted for conspiracy to murder by black magic. Hakim Didi was executed by firing squad. That was the last judicial execution in the Maldives. There have been extra-judicial executions since then. Hakim Didi is second from left.

Ibrahim Nasir Rannabandeyri Kilegefan was a Maldivian politician who served as Prime Minister of the Maldives under Sultan Muhammad Fareed Didi from 1957 to 1968 and succeeded him to become the first President of the Second Republic from 1968 to 1978.

President Mohamed Amin Didi, He served as the first president of the Maldives and as the head of government between January 1, 1953 and August 21, 1953. Due to unpopular policies he was deposed and lynched by the mob.

Maldives Traditional Dress.jpg
Dhivehi traditional dress called Libas, is elaborately adorned with hand stitched gold and silver neckline called the Kasabu Bovalhu and matching embroidery on the sleeve cuffs. Worn with the Libas on the head is called the Rumafalhi, which means a handkerchief or a half handkerchief.
