Born and raised in Kerman, a historic city in southeastern Iran, I, Iman Fakhri Joshani (in Farsi: ایمان فخری جوشانی), now call Tehran home. As a PhD candidate in History of Islam, my academic passion lies in the fascinating intersection of East and West during the medieval period—specifically, the Crusades and the Latin East, with particular emphasis on the history of mentalities and collective memory. Beyond the Crusades, my scholarly interests extend to medieval history from the 10th to 15th centuries, as well as the modern and contemporary history of the Middle East and North Africa.
My work
My contributions to Wikimedia Commons unfold along two distinct paths. The first springs from my scholarly passion for the Crusades and the medieval world: documents and manuscripts that open a window onto how people of the Middle Ages recorded, imagined, and remembered the events of their age, with particular attention to the history of mentalities and collective memory. The second is a more personal journey, driven purely by my love for historical monuments and natural landscapes. Whether I am photographing an ancient site or a quiet vista, these images stand apart from my academic work, yet they share the same curiosity about the places and traces that shape our sense of the past.
