I am contributing files to Commons since 2014, mainly art and history.

The idea of creating an ocean of freely usable media is very appealing to me.

Nevertheless, I have some quibbles:

  • Why is Commons still so ugly and off-putting? This web site would really take off if we make it user-friendly.
  • If Commons wants to foster the public domain, why choose US law? Source country copyright is sufficient, don't add to it by establishing yourself in a jurisdiction fanatically devoted to intellectual property. For those who think this is exaggerated: have you met the URAA-"restoration"? The minimum that the WMF should do is establish itself in a country which applies the rule of the shorter term.
  • Categories suck, switch to tags.
