Oppose Geocoding missing without justification. Lycaon (talk) 17:13, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Support Geocoding is not essential, and the image more than meets the criteria and is an outstanding image. --russavia (talk) 23:08, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Geocoding is a requirement, so that criterion is not fulfilled. Please read the guidelines. Lycaon (talk) 23:46, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Geocoding is a requirement, when relevant. It is my opinion that geocoding in this instance is not relevant. If it were a photo of a building, then yes, I would say it is relevant, but here is a photo of a person, and where they are in the world is not really all that relevant IMHO. --russavia (talk) 23:56, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
To quote the guideline (my bold emphasis): "All images are expected to be geocoded unless it would not be appropriate to do so. Exceptions include: studio and other non-place-related shots, unknown locations, illustrations, diagrams, charts and maps, situations where the publishing of a location might be prejudicial (for example, privacy concerns, endangered species)." This is not a place-related shot, it is related only to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Does it matter if he is sitting somewhere in Bhutan? Mozambique? Antartica? Or even the Moon. Where he is, is not part of the photo subject, nor is it part of the scope of the category of which this is a valued photo. If it was being considered in the scope of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Bhutan, then yes, geocoding may be relevant (but still not definite), but in this instance it isn't relevant at all. --russavia (talk) 18:14, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
I've seen no indication for a justification for the lack of geocoding on the image page. Lycaon (talk) 20:17, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
I think it should be an exception beacuse it is a studio shot and we do not know where the location of the picture taken. It's says it could be an exception if it had one of those two beacuse I read the criteria. Spongie555 (talk) 05:03, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Support What is the goal in VI ? respect absolutely the criteria (not sure they are not, in this case) as unbreakable requirements, or recognize valuable and rare images ?--Jebulon (talk) 23:32, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Comment I could have said "Oh, I recognize the wallpaper, this photograph was taken in Dechencholing Palace in Thimphu". More seriously, I consider that Spongie555 has given acceptable reason for the lack of geocode and I would willingly support this portrait, a fine one and the best we have, if a dedicated Category:Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was created (see criterion 6 => must be well categorized at an appropriate level.) This notable person deserves it, doesn't he? --Myrabella (talk) 21:16, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Info Note that at the time of the shot (March 2007), he wasn't officially crowned yet (occured on November 2008). --Myrabella (talk) 21:25, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Comment Co-nominators should abstain from voting in a system where a single vote can decide the outcome. Lycaon (talk) 22:43, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
