Do not template me[edit]

But please feel free to leave me a personal note. --TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 23:13, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When uploading images it's important that you include categories and description, so that others may find and make use of your uploads. For useful links and such, see Please link images. Finn Rindahl 23:34, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I did that. But if I did it incorrectly or incompletely, can you give me a specific example of what more I should add? Thanks. --TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 23:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I think I understand. I actually did categorize my first upload and place it a gallery. I did not do the same for my second upload because I realize the scan iteslf is covered in dust and debris. I kind of want to delete it and replace it later with a cleaner image. That's why I didn't apply any links to the image. --TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 23:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, looking forward to seeing a clearer image of those boats (with a category). Use Upload a new version of the file, bottom of the imagepage [1] when you're ready. Thanks, Finn Rindahl 00:16, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. But don't expect the boats to look any cleaer--it's intentionally a low-light, no-flash, long exposure. Supposed to be impresionistic (admittedly, I'm no artist). But it won't have all those dust spots. When I reupload it, I will add it to the rowboat and Portsmouth, New Hampshire categories.--TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 00:23, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The Fat Man Who Never Came Back!
Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
