Indiecurrent is a Canadian-based music blogazine established in 2010. It is dedicated to reviewing a wide range of artists and songs of independant, underground music. From Alternative Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic and Pop.


It was founded in 2010 by Matthew Pendrill, at the time a grade 11 student living in London, Ontario, Canada. It started out as a Blogspot and due to its growth in popularity, moved to its own and current domain of It is now run out of Guelph, Ontario, Canada by Pendrill, who is a student at the University of Guelph. It staff has grown to around 20+ writers, with two photographers. It centers itself on ‘music from all genres with a keen interest in Indie-rock, Chillwave and Electronic music’.


Since it started, Pendrill and other writers have interviewed various artists such as Whale Tooth, Teenage Kicks, Of Monsters and Men, Urban Cone, Beat Connection. Other frequent features on the site include big underground and independent names like Teen Daze, Star Slinger, Japandroids and Rizzle Kicks. It began to see huge spikes in traffic after posting Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" and Walk the Moon's "Anna Sun", which at one time was the highest viewed video of the single before it was taken down.


It has an easily navigated set-up. A Music page for reviews of songs, albums and artists. It keeps up to date with happenings of the indieshpere in its News section. It also has Videos of the latest songs and interviews, including recently reviewed ones. It is fully connected to Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and its own YouTube channel. Top 20 songs and 20 albums are annually released and has an official end of year mix done by Slow Magic.


Fun Fun Fun Fest[edit]

Indiecurrent have done extensive coverage of the Austin, Texas based festival Fun Fun Fun Fest, with the performances of regularly reviewed bands such as Japandroids.


This French-based Indie music festival also has many bands that have become popular early on with the site such as Fun, Passion Pit and James Vincent McMorrow.
