File:George Q. Morris.JPG[edit]

The description on this image says it's of w:Hugh B. Brown, though you added it to the article w:George Q. Morris. Which is it (doesn't look like Brown to me)? -- 208.81.184.4 23:36, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your catch. I'm not sure what happened. I probably copied the template from Brown and forgot to updated the description. At least it was used in the right place (i.e.George Q. Morris) and it was named correctly (ie File:George Q. Morris.JPG). Thanks again.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 12:19, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
File:The Voice of Truth.djvu[edit]

I was wondering why File:The Voice of Truth.djvu is in the Category:John Taylor (Latter Day Saints). I would love to incorporate it into the John Taylor (Mormon), if it belongs there.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 20:20, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

I believe John Taylor got attached to this file because he is listed on the title page: "Printed by John Taylor." I do not see any indication that he authored anything in the book so my best guess is that his being the publisher would be insufficient for inclusion on John Taylor (Mormon). By the way, if you want to put a category into text, do it by putting a colon after the opening brackets like this-- [[:category:name]]. --Mkoyle (talk) 20:43, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Daniel_H._Wells.jpg[edit]

How is this a photo "ca. 1901" of Daniel Wells, who died in 1891? Cool Hand Luke (talk) 15:50, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry your upset that the photo of the painting of was Wells was deleted. I admit that my date on File:Daniel_H._Wells.jpg was incorrect. It was based on a different issue I was working on elsewhere and the date change due to the year change from 2011 to 2012. Yes, I reference the the wrong date.
Regarding File:Daniel_H._Wells2.jpg. You are correct Wells died in 1891. However, the 1901 date is the date of "Publication" not of creation. Since the copyright tag is based on the date of publication that is the relevant date not it's creation. The source of the image was
(Jenson, Andrew () Latter-day Saint biographical encyclopedia: A compilation of biographical sketches of prominent men and women in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1, Salt Lake City, Utah: The Andrew Jenson History Company (Printed by The Deseret News Press), p. 62 Retrieved on January 4, 2012.)
That book was published in 1901. The image was obviously created before that date. However, since it caused some confusion, I have clarified it here.
As to my 120 years date mistake on that File:Daniel_H._Wells.jpg deletion request. As I pointed out at the, my mistake was irrelevant to the argument for deletion for the following reasons
  1. There is no evidence that the painting was made during Wells lifetime. This painting could have even been made long after Wells' death. It could even have been painted last month, for all the information supplied by the uploader. Therefore my mistake is irrelevant.
  2. The death date of Daniel H. Wells is not what determines the copyright, it's the date of publication or death of the creator. The copyright has nothing to do with the "Subject" of the artwork, just like photos of people. If you paint a painting of George Washington, the copyright apples to your death date not his. This goes for every photo or painting ever made. Again, making my 120 years date mistake irrelevant.
  3. Since this is a photo of Artwork, the Wikipedia:Public domain rules on artwork apply. These rules state, "Proof of publication is mandatory; uploaders making a "public domain" claim on (a reproduction of) an artwork are required to prove with verifiable details that the work was first published before 1923, or first published after 1923 with an artist who died more than 70 years ago." The uploader did not even supply the authors name nor a date of publication. Therefore there is no "Proof of publication" or proof that the author died over 70 years ago.
With the information given (which was none) this painting could have been made at any time, at any place, and could have been first published at any point in time after an unknown creation date. That is why the image was deleted, not because I mus-counted back 120 years.
If you could supply the author of the paining or the date of creation (not Wells death), then I will put the image up for restoration myself. I hate having good image deleted for lack of information. --ARTEST4ECHO talk 16:49, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Request for help on OTRS[edit]

See this request for help from User:Jacobkhed re how to get the emailed permission he received loaded on to OTRS and the pictures restored --Trödel 21:53, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

I have been helping him, Trödel. However, Commons:Licensing requires that all image on Commons be freely licensed or public domain. I have read in a number of places Precautionary principle), in a number of deletion requests, that the idea that the copyright holder "Won’t object" is NEVER a justification for a copyrighted image to be uploaded to commons. An attitude like that will cause Wikipedia huge legal issues, as they can be held responsible for allowing copyrighted image to be upload and reproduced.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 12:49, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Did you see that I had the file renamed already? See file:Invitation to Sanpete by Jerry Anderson.jpg. I put an ORTS section on it, but there are not specific id numbers yet. I was just wondering if these are needed before I call the sculptor and request he sends the email, or do they come afterwards? Jacobkhed (talk) 17:27, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
@Jacobkhed:- Do you know what licen the copyright holder agreed to? See Commons:OTRS#Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries--ARTEST4ECHO talk 17:38, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
The copyright holder agreed to the standard Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International, but has not sent the email to ORTS yet. We're either on step 2 or 3. Commons:OTRS#If_you_are_not_the_copyright_holder Jacobkhed (talk) 18:20, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
@Jacobkhed: - You can forward the e-mail that you got from him to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, or ask him to send it himself to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Once in a while I run into issues with the ORTS Admins not liking the fact that I forwarded the e-mail, but as long as it clearly come from him, they should be happy. Once the e-mail is sent, it just has to wait until the ORTS Admins approve it. I will keep an eye on it.-ARTEST4ECHO talk 18:27, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Let me know when the e-mail is sent, just so I know, if for some strange reason something comes up, I can say it was sent in.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 18:32, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! They sent the email. I was cc'ed so I can reforward if necessary. Jacobkhed (talk) 01:26, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for helping him. --Trödel 18:14, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

PD-Iceland50[edit]

I noticed your withdrawn comment at one of the Icelandic FoP deletion requests. FYI, the 50-years term in {{PD-Iceland50}} applies only to photographic snapshots and doodles created 50 years ago. It is not valid for architecture and art. And even a 50 years old snapshot showing a sculpture or building that is still copyrighted would not be ok (it's always the content that matters). Cheers, De728631 (talk) 21:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

That is why to took it off. I was looking for the rules for Iceland and it became clear. That is why said I wasn't sure about this.--ARTEST4ECHO talk
