Cape town/kaapstad move unfair

I recently moved Cape Town to Kaapstad, i don't see why the NATIVE NAME of the city can't be used while cities in russia and other places can use their native and billingual names? For instance Biel is billingual, Kazan has 3 names!, WHY cant we use native names in south africa! Please contact me here.

Hi abigor, i am waiting for you to reply. --Africa South (talk) 11:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Hello, sorry that you have to wait for a answer but when I can't type I can't answer. I protected the page against moving because there was a move war / edit war. Every time the page is moved there will be a lot of double redirect that needs to be fixed.
It makes no difference to me how it is named, all other names can be created with a redirect. I think it will be for the best when you go to the talkpage and discuss there about the name. But please use one name and not name / name. When it is discussed a admin can unprotect the page. Abigor talk 11:43, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I created the logo, the Copyright is mine.

-AndSalX-WWECR (talk) 00:36, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I apologise for the copyright mistake with the image. I'm not that knowledgeable of the copyright business. Hopefully I haven't cause much of an inconvenience.

The commons was the only way I able to get the image to show. If you're able to do it yourself or show me how to upload images locally as that was my first time editing a wiki page.

I can upload it locally for you, that would be no problem at all. Can you please tell me for what wiki the image is mend?
Best regards,

Doei! I wrote an explanation on the talk page of File:Chkembari-logo.jpg, and I asked for help from someone to decide which license should be used. And you didn't help me, you just deleted the file. Now can you please revert it, and add the proper license to it. I bet you didn't even read the details, so let me explain it to you again. One friend of mine created the logo, he said he wants no rights whatsoever, and he's allowed its use, so it's already on the web, but it wasn't uploaded on wikicommons. He also doesn't want to create any user accounts on wikimedia, so I volunteered to upload it for him. And I did, but I didn't know what license is best suitable in this kind of cases so I put the one that says too simple to have copyrights, as it's only a fan club logo of a local football club. Can you please revert it, and add the proper license? Dank je!

--Guitardemon666 (talk) 15:47, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

The real owner of the logo must send his permuission to OTRS and say under what license it can stand. Otherwise I can not undelete it. And yes I have read the talkpage. Abigor talk 17:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
What if he doesn't use internet, or doesn't have an e-mail? Hard to imagine, but true in a country like mine. So the epilogue would be? P.S. He said he wants no rights anyway (which I can't prove to you because of the aforementioned reasons, except sending you a copy of a paper in which he would state that, or just let him use my computer?), is that public domain? --Guitardemon666 (talk) 17:49, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

We have a lot of people uploading material on Commons and that is good, but we need to make sure that there are violations coming on Commons, this can cause serieus damage to the Foundation and to the Uploader. So that is the reason for this procedure. Postal address

Re: Media Move Bot

Thanks for approving my application; this is undoubtedly a positive step toward my plans for world domination! Ahem, I mean, making Commons a better place. In any case, do you have any idea how often the bot runs? -- Huntster T@C 05:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't really now how many times it runs, I think it is user activated. Here should be a better place to ask it :)

Hola.

Hello. These consultations are made clear by a troll who has been escpulsado. Those photos are all mine, so I am the author, and you can check the metadata. Please ask him to delete all queries that have been cleared off and not put back. Un saludo.

Deletion request and edit warring on your behalf

I do take it personally, also I will have ask you to stop edit warring. Blocking someone over an edit war with yourself is against wikipedia policy and would've cost you your admin status on the English Wikipedia. BanRay (talk) 19:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

@BanRay: Acting against policy will surely also get you reverted and blocked on the English Wikipedia. As you don't seem to understand on your talk page, I'm giving it another try: Borders are deprecated. Don't stop people from removing them. -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 19:35, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Blocked by an uninvolved admin - yes, reverted - no. Also, what you refer to as policy is, in fact, a unilaterally written guideline. I do not have to follow it. BanRay 19:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Let me say this one time because I am sick of you. At the time I blocked you I wasn't involved, after the block I am involved.

This is not the English Wikipedia so don't bring there policys to our Wiki. If you want to start a desysop be my guest.

And I don't see my actions as a editwar, I am reverting a vandal, a vandal that can't agree with our policy and is making unconstructive edits. But I will not block you because I am involved, if I wasn't you can believe me you where blocked already!.

So you can come to commons to make constructive edit, but never come back to my talkpage to tell lies. Abigor talk 20:13, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

a) Vandalism has a clear definition, so please bother choosing your words carefully next time.
b) What's that policy called again? May I have a glance behind the curtain?
c) Desysop? Had this place had real policies, you would've had you head handed to you on a plate ages ago.
d) "My" images are currently used on dozens of different wikipedia projects. Frank Lampard's article was viewed 2,000 times yesterday, Andrei Arshavin's page - almost 10,000 times, certainly it's not your loss, it's the loss of those readers and editors, who actually do something useful for the project, whereas your lot just tag images and call that a contribution to the project, give me a break.
e) Block me all you want, I couldn't give a flying ****. BanRay 21:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Oh and one last thing, your block came after you reverted my edits, so I'm not the one lying here, now get back to work, you still have some images to tag. BanRay 21:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Certainly unfree flickr image

Dear Admin Abigor, Let me direct your attention to this image:

It should have not been placed in the 'Possibly unfree category.' If you check the image history, it was always licensed 'all rights reserved' from the time of upload. This is the uploader's only image. I think this image merits a clear deletion...since it is licensed as 'all rights reserved' and is an obvious copy vio. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 11:39, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

I have deleted the images as a copy vio, I am not sure why it was still on Commons. In my opinion could that picture be deleted on sight.
Thank you very much for the notice and good work on Commons.
Best regards,
Abigor talk 12:00, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your help Abigor. This image was never free in the first place. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:24, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Abigor talk 05:04, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Groet, Wutsje (talk) 18:59, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:BSicon uSBHF1.svg

Two people voting to delete, only one to keep ... why did you decide to keep it?

The reason for keeping it is counterproductive, they aren't "used". It is only listed in two sets of "userspace lists of everything", pages of sizes that makes it nearly impossible to delete any icon from it! So that reason would make it impossible to delete any file as long as anyone lists it just to be listed somewhere! axpdeHello! 13:50, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

P.S.: Just tried to substitute the old icon by the new one on LeheckaG's user page, I wasn't able to save the change, cause while trying to do so I always get an ERR_READ_TIMEOUT :( axpdeHello! 13:58, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

P.P.S.: Despite the read timeouts the change had been saved, it's just Alisons list of everything still listing this icon! axpdeHello! 14:28, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi axp, allow me to answer for Abigor. Deletion requests are not votes. They are attempts to build consensus and discuss opposing arguments within policy. Your argument for deletion is on the basis that it is impossible. We really don't care whether an image is logically consistent, only whether it is sufficiently free, and whether it is within scope. Now, there are no arguments that its copyright status is wrong. Is it within scope? Well, to be in scope something must be realistically usable for an educational purpose, and/or in use on some project. This icon is in use, so it is within scope. Thus there is no reason to delete it. If you really want it deleted, ask Alison about it. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:34, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Posted my response, cheers. BanRay

Hello, Abigor. I'm not really sure why you fully protected the template Template:Cc-by-2.5/ar, it isn't "Widely used template", in fact, it isn't used at all. This template in my watchlist, and maybe in others', so there is no need to worry about vandalism because it will be restored quickly. Please remove protection on such pages, because there is no need. Also, please note that the [full] protection takes place in very rare cases, even the Arabic Main Page doesn't need to be protected. Thank you for your hard work.--OsamaK 08:14, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Also please check User:Abigor/Box and User:Abigor/Babel, they don't fit the state on your user page "You may edit this page!" :)--OsamaK 08:20, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Those pages where already protected because of cascading. I removed the cascading and protected all pages one by one so it will be more easy to unprotect one when it needs to be editted. But if you need to edit it I am happy to remove the protection.
My userpage is free to edit but people can't change my babel because I need to speak it when it stand there, it protected so people cant place language in it if I cant understand it. The same for the userboxes, there is no need to change it because it shows my rights so other projects. So there is no need to edit that, but everybody is free to change the other parts of the page. :-)
Best regards,
Abigor talk 08:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
You're partly free in your user page, of course, so don't take it seriously! But I cannot see a reason for protecting the language pages, which are not' in used (or used in very few pages). It would be good if you unprotect a protected page each time someone wants to edit it, but not in a wiki, where anyone can edit. So please, unprotect these pages (or someone else will do), and consider of hundreds of active users who must be able to edit when they think it will be useful. There is no need to worry about vandalizing such pages for few hours or fewer. Thank you again.--OsamaK 15:34, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Anti-border fanaticism

Basic principles of common courtesy would strongly suggest that you not degrade the image quality of someone else's photographs without a strong valid reason, and that shaving the last few pixels of border off a 2,750-pixel wide image is not such a reason. And when it comes to Wikimedia Commons policies, both the text of Template:Remove border and Commons:Media_for_cleanup#Pictures_that_need_to_be_retouched.2C_trimmed_and_scaled suggest "If cropping (only) a JPEG, consider using a lossless cropping tool such as jpegtran" and "If cropping a JPEG, consider using a lossless cropping tool such as jpegtran" -- which is exactly what I did with the white bikini images. The fact that lossless cropping is mentioned means that according to Wikipedia Commons policies, preserving image quality (where feasible) is important. Frankly, I don't understand at all this degree of religious fundamentalism over borders which are barely if at all visible unless the images are viewed at a much larger size than they would be typically used in Wikipedia articles. New message?

Hi Abigor,

Looks like you just left me a message, unless this is a bot? I've nothing in particular to ask or say, but maybe you do, about my activity today.

I'm presently busy splitting Category:Foundations into Category:Foundations (organizations) for, well, foundations (such as NGOs, etc) from foundations in construction (which is my interest there). So far there was only one Category:Foundations shamelessly ;-) mixing both kinds.

I'm generally trying to diffuse, recategorize and fix stuff in Category:construction.

This sometimes results in finding problems elsewhere, such as the Shop signs files I've just spent some time categorizing.

And yes, maybe I do have a question about this file: . Why is it listed in so many County subcats? There may be a reason, but as well it might just be some kind of advert or self-prom. 20:56, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

If I may provide an answer to that last question, this is just the work of a bot, BotMultichill, that sometimes tends to overcategorize images. There is a link on the image page, Check them now!, that allows you to easily modify the categories. Don't hesitate to remove a lot! Hope this helps. --Tryphon (talk) 21:08, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Bundesarchiv images

Hi, you should not remove the image caption if it is not necessary. The caption is the attribution that the cc license requires, if you remove it you should make sure, that the information is transfered to the image description correctly. Removing the capation of an image may break the license. --Martin H. (talk) 11:04, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

The license says I can alter the image if we keep attributing the author, and we will keep doing that in the description so we don't break the license. And I checked if the information on the license was also available on the description :).
I did just a few images because I was bored, I am not thinking about doing the doing them all.
But the license says we can alter or share alike the image so there is no problem with removing the caption from the image. Abigor talk 11:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Dear Abigor, Thank You for closing this DR However, the uploader's other image here: File:Emily Dubberley SE.jpg should also be deleted or at least placed in a DR since the uploader cannot be Sam Eddison and Allison Tyler at the same time. When the Flickr license is not free enough you could tag it with {{Copyvio|License on Flickr}} or {{Speedy|Unfree flickr license}}. If there is a image uploaded from Flickr but the author isn't creditted but it is free enough you could simple change the author in the name that is needed, otherwise just tag it with {{Speedy}}.
