Apparently this image is used and misattributed by transylvania.info here. They claim the image was from September 30, 2006, and owned by transsylvania.info, when you uploaded it here at the Commons on October 2, 2005. They even left your EXIF data intact... Lupo 12:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Renardo la vulpo!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thank you for your suggestion. I uploaded the modified picture, and it displays correctly in the 1:1 scale. But for anything I tried I could not get it to display in any scaled-down size (I purged my browser cache, used Shift-F5 and Ctrl-Shift-R, added "?action=purge" to countless URLs, all to no avail).
Maybe to-morrow will be another day, and the Wikimedia server will have purged its caches. In the meantime you can see the new version using a non-standard picture size, such as 1025 instead of 1024.

--Jebulon (talk) 21:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Appologise[edit]

Hello Aisano, I do appologise if you thought my comments left were a bit pretentious, This was not in anyway my intention and appologise again if you thought that. When reading peoples comments i feel this helps with my learning as alot of people on wikicommons have been on the site for ages and have a wealth of knowledge to offer including your good self. I have found alot of people review pictures and add a one word comment like 'QI' or 'QI for me' etc which is good for a person having there picture reviewed but doesnt give alot away as to why it is QI, again with comments which are not QI valid reasons are something to be taken into consideration and learnt by which is how we all learn. This is also the same when comments are left in different languages which someone like me who is learning all the time cannot benifit from your comment which is well worth knowing, only to not be able to understand it, but i fully understand how hard learning other languages and how difficult it is and only wish I could have learnt other languages. As for the Union Jack on my WP page this is not meant to be a 'being proud to be' icon but to let others know where in the world I am from, thats all that is. I do hope you except my appologies as there was nothing meant by it. Kind Regards --Danesman1 (talk) 13:10, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012!

Dear Renardo la vulpo,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2012, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world!

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 350,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from 36 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012.

Kind regards,
the Wiki Loves Monuments team

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Plzeň, Kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého. 3.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 17:22, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

@Magog the Ogre: Thank you for pointing out this omission; I just added a license. Until a couple of days ago the upload form used to check for the existence of a suitable license and would reject an upload without one, so I never paid too much attention to this aspect. Now this check seems to have disappeared, as well as the automatic generation of an information template. It was easier before; maybe it is on purpose to discourage newbees (why?). I will do my best to adapt to the new form. -- Aisano (talk) 17:50, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't do anything with the upload form. You should bring your concerns to COM:VP. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 17:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps for some reason the ImprovedUploadForm gadget isn't loading for you? Such as due to disabled JavaScript or due to it being deactivated in the gadget preferences? That seems like the most likely cause of your symptoms. darkweasel94 18:05, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

--Vuxi (talk) 20:06, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Fotomapping in OpenStreetMap[edit]

Was müsste ich da tun? Gibt es einen Beschreibungstext? -- Aisano (talk) 20:02, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
--Rolf Eike Beer (talk) 20:24, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
@Rolf Eike Beer: Ich habe gar nichts dagegen.
-- Aisano (talk) 20:52, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

File:Detaliu1.jpg[edit]

Bon soir,

la 2013-04-19 tu as ajouté l'image Detaliu1.jpg à la catégorie Bridge of Lies, Sibiu,

--Zeugma fr (talk) 20:28, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Monument istoric[edit]

Hi. This template should only be added in the category completely matching the monument, since a robot uses the data to add the category in the lists (which in turn means that new images uploaded from the lists already have the correct category). For instance, Category:Castra Apulum, porta principalis dextra is a subcategory of Category:Castra Apulum, which has the code AB-I-m-A-00001.01 , so it shouldn't have the same code itself.--Strainu (talk) 06:52, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

But since the image is not just a 2D copy of a 2D object it also contains a (marginal) contribution from myself as photographer, so I gave it
What else can/should I do?

Windmill tower KKE, Soroni, Rodos[edit]

Thankyou. I think you have identified a camera fault since the spot (vignette) appears on other images taken with this old Panasonic. Best regards Notafly (talk) 12:14, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

@Notafly: You are welcome, glad if I could help. As a matter of fact I was unable to see the spot without increasing contrast by a factor of 10; so in my opinion it does not really do any harm. But I do not have a good eye for details; reviewers nearly always find fault with my pictures. BTW I am using a Panasonic, too, (TZ 61), and my conclusion is that pocket cameras just do not produce the quality required for a QI. What's your experience?
Have a fine day! -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 15:13, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
All these photos were taken with compact cameras Quality Photographs by Notafly. Leica and Ricoh. The Panasonic has the same lens (maybe higher quality control) and I have the Panasonic equivalent of the D-lux and it is excellent.Because of the small sensor compacts are superb for close ups (high DOF) less good for buildings (small lens, perspective problems). More soon. Best regards Robert aka Notafly (talk) 16:54, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
@Notafly: Concerning your Windmill tower picture, you could crop the left part and re-submit it. – If you have any hints for me concerning my camera I certainly would appreciate them. Just as an instance, a couple of days ago I took Tivoli-Kraftwerk in München, 6.jpeg, in bright sunlight, so as to increase DoF and reduce axial CA; still it was judged as “not sharp enough”. Do you think using “aperture priority” rather than “shutter priority” would improve things? The picture was taken with f/4.1. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 21:18, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
The camera seems to have focused on the foreground rail not the building. Can you change to central focus on the
camera rather than the camera averaging the focus by choosing several points? I always use “aperture priority” except for snapshots usually a high aperture if the light is good. Sometimes I use a wide aperture so that the background is not sharp and the high shutter speed can eliminate blur (but one reviewer did not agree- he wanted the distance sharp).A tripod is best but mine is very heavy.
Here is the advice Hubertl gave to me
Use always the RAW versions, not JPGs out of the camera. There is a really big difference!
When focussing, take the spot meter. Otherwise the camera doesn´t know, which is the subject.
Use a tripod as often you can. I always work with a tripod, even a monopod is better. We both are not teenagers any more ;-)
Learn how to process your pictures. Use a software like Lightroom (if you can and will afford), but also Raw Therapee (free) or Darktable (also free, but only for Linux) can do a good work. Gimp is good for clearing some perspective problems. Every good photographer use some of this tools.
Don´t use any of the Creative Programs of your camera, Use the AV-Mode. You are the photographer, not the camera!! Try to control everything - the camera itself will do it wrong! Don´t belive your camera manufacturer in any case, whatever he say, its for idiots and not more than jakediyak blah blah.
The most important thing for a good picture is sharpness. Sharpness. Sharpness. Try to start with this.
Do some experiments with the same motif. You will understand it better during the postprocessing.
Get up early in the morning, the sky is clear, the light is much better. Avoid to make pictures with hazy environment until you know, how to handle it. Make pictures with a really clear blue sky. If you don´t have a blue sky, make close up images of houses or other objects. Or people - but only if they want it!
Read the f***ing Manual! Skip everything, were you find the word "automatic".
If you mean, that something might be a good subject, just take some time to understand it. Don´t rape the motif (I mean it)! Be respectful. ::::Sometimes I spent hours, even days to understand it. Especially architectural motifs. Take a walk, go farther, than closer. Get into the idea. And then, make your pictures. And make plenty of them and decide later, which represents the idea which makes this building interesting for you. Plenty pictures means eventually sometimes hundreds! From the same subject!
If you work manually, use ISO 100 or 200, 200/sec, f/8. If possible. And always try to have the sun in the back.
If this is not possible in the morning, try it on late afternoon.

Notafly (talk) 12:15, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
@Notafly: Thank you for that whole bunch of advice! I have Raw Therapee and GIMP on my Linux box and use the latter a lot – even if only for cropping and perspective, sometimes stitching. I already follow your hint about center focus vs. multi-focus because multi-focus has spoilt me a lot of pictures. Yet I do not understand how misfocussing could have affected my Tivoli picture since the “foreground rail” (I assume you mean the metal balustrade in front of the left building) is almost as far away as the building itself.
I took the liberty of indenting your text, and to put asterisks in a word I do not want on my discussion page. (In the present case I would prefer the word “fruitful”.) Thank you again. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 16:17, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Tried that windmill crop. What do you think? I can see why multi-focus is useful sometimes but it is prone to error. Like you I found out the hard way. I am using manual focus. Does your Panasonic have that option or focus lock. Keep getting comments on suboptimal lighting. In Ireland optimal lighting is 2-7 days a year.atb 20:57, 22 August 2016 (UTC)~
Just supported promotion of your windmill picture. You might want to change Widmill to Windmill in the description. I just noticed.
A bright blue sky is marvellous but “suboptimal lighting” is not necessarily a drawback. I have seen (and commented) pictures where part was in bright sunlight, with an ugly dark shadow extending over a significant part of the picture. In such a case overcast weather is better. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 22:12, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Breitbrunn am Chiemsee, Messe dauert zwei Wochen, 1.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

GETTY IMAGES[edit]

hi, I have received your notice, I would say that the 'EERA author died in 1958, the license was right,, but for the event is for the logo from the problemmi you think,, no because I put in all the right information, paying attention to the slightest sign of infringement of copyright, you can say the problem?

Face-smile.svg Thank you for getting back.
The problem is that you indicated that the picture was taken by Philipp Kester, who lived until 1958. While he lived he held the copyright for the photo. Afterwards there is a time of, in many countries (including Germany), 70 years when his heirs hold the copyright. This time is not yet over.
Maybe you want to take this discussion to the discussion page.
I shall be glad if the picture can be kept.

Welcome, Dear Filemover![edit]

Commons File mover.svg

Hi Renardo la vulpo, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please do not tag redirects as speedy. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.
