Question

I would like to upload a file but I don't know if it would be aloud on Commons. I took it with Google Earth. It's an Aerial photo of Haines City, Florida. It's on my photo bucket account right now here. Let me know if it can be uploaded here. (Tell me on Simple cause I don't come to Commons often.)--   ChristianMan16  20:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC) Revised 02:10, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Someone else can answer this if they can.--   ChristianMan16  02:10, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
HI ChristianMan. Unfortunately, as it's a derivative of a copyrighted image and was not released under a compatible license, you can't upload it to commons. It's even watermarked and tagged with a copyright. Really sorry about that :( On another note, I'm going to keep trying on getting your SUL account sorted. Which name are you looking to keep for SUL? Hornetman or Christianman?? - Alison 03:59, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
My SUL is ChristianMan16--   ChristianMan16  06:43, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, okay. And that's blocked on enwiki, right? Is it that you can't complete SUL because it thinks that's your home wiki? I can possibly unblock it ... temporarily!! ... to allow you to complete SUL. Thoughts?? - Alison 06:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Also where would I find an freeuse aerial photo to use? I can't seem to find one with Google.--   ChristianMan16  06:45, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
I've no idea. It's prolly near-impossible as all sat images are copyrighted - Alison 06:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Before we talk about that you might want to double check what Angela meant so we don't do anything unnecessary. Here.--   ChristianMan16  06:58, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

←Ugh - what a mess! I think we're going to end up deleting your unified account on Meta, running a rename on enwiki (need to find a 'crat to help) and then re-block locally, as well as registering a local HornetMan16 account for block/redir. That should work. I'll try sort something out tomorrow if I can - Alison 07:40, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about this ...I should have through the SUL information entirely before activating my Global account.--   ChristianMan16  18:00, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
You and everyone else, dude :) It's all new to us all and everyone is trying to understand it - Alison 18:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
You said you would email me with some updates on the sockie and you haven't. Why?--   ChristianMan16  18:28, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Because I've been complete run off my feet here with both day-job work and enwiki stuff. It's been crazy. I've already corrected all the mislabeled socks on enwiki and am following up on two regular editors who have been rather naughty. More on that later ... - Alison 18:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) - Okay, request is in - let's see how things go - Alison 18:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

← Ok, Aaron? You have some work to do now :) Can you read m:Steward requests/SUL requests#User:ChristianMan16 and complete what Birdy has asked you to do. WJBscribe, a bureaucrat on enwiki, has kindly offered to help with the renamings - Alison 18:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Give me about 10 minutes.--   ChristianMan16  18:43, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay - let me know when you're done and we'll get this sorted ;) - Alison 18:45, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
✓ Done (Always wanted to try that template.)--   ChristianMan16  18:48, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Global account deleted.--   ChristianMan16  19:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Rename request submitted. Fingers crossed now :) You're going to be temporarily unblocked on enwiki to get this completed - I'm trusting you on this, so no messing!!. When that happens, I'll let you know and you can re-activate SUL - Alison 19:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Who me? Come on, Alison you know me better than that. For the past 3 months that wiki has been off limits for editing and will stay that way till an unban ruling is reached whenever that will be.--   ChristianMan16  19:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok, really quick - I'm on IRC here with Will - you need to enable SUL for ChristianMan16. I've temporarily unblocked on enwiki and WJB has moved your old stuff over - Alison 19:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
SUL activated.--   ChristianMan16  19:26, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Excellent!! Thank goodness for that. That was a lot of hard work, and on three separate wikis. Sysops, bureaucrats and stewards!!! :O I'll just followup with the paperwork now and we're done - Alison 19:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Amazing what it takes to fix an SUL screw up. I guess one of the first things to do is move the sock cats over to ChristianMan16. Right?--   ChristianMan16  19:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
"Thank you Alison for going to all the trouble on my behalf" might perhaps have been a more appropriate response... WjBscribe 19:58, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
She knows I'm grateful...but still Thanks, Alison just incase you didn't know.--   ChristianMan16  20:00, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome :) You might want to say the same to your pal User:Creol from Simple who's been emailing me on your behalf, as well as Will himself and, of course, Spacebirdy who is teh awezumest Steward on the planet :) - Alison 20:06, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
FYI, you have new messages on Simple.--   ChristianMan16  05:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

✓ Back again - with a note explaining the rationale - Alison 05:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Alison an admin here deleted a photo I uploaded that I think and I will assume you would agree shouldn't have been deleted I was wondering if you could restore it please. The image was here: Image:Cooltext91482114.png--   ChristianMan16  21:25, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
I deleted it... Because it is pink text. You can do that with HTML. Besides - are you using these images for anything besides your userpage? Like... an encyclopedia page? You've uploaded more than your share of "personal" images that serve no value to anyone else. We've cut you off - basically. You can see the note Monobi posted on your talk page. --ShakataGaNai Talk 21:28, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
You better look at that image closer, Dude...it's not pink it's blue and white with a red glow.--   ChristianMan16  21:36, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
It still serves no encyclopedic purpose anyways... Monobi (talk) 21:40, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
This is really getting on my nerves...Image:RIP ChrisBenoit.gif.--   ChristianMan16  05:58, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
It's fair use... Monobi (talk) 06:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
It is not it's a fan taken photo. Proof--   ChristianMan16  06:06, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Did they release it under a free license? No. Okay, then it's fair use. Monobi (talk) 06:08, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
For the love of God! It even says Copyright 2007 by WSBTV.com. The Associated Press contributed to this report. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. right under it! Monobi (talk) 06:09, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Channel 2 doesn't own the rights to that image. The fan does and I'm sure he would want it used that way. Must y'all target me? EVERY image. According to my sources you even lied on your deletion rational for the last image. I can't believe the community entrusted you which Admin tools. You lying on deletion rationals which means your abusing the tools so you get your way.--   ChristianMan16  06:13, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
1. From what I understand "the fan" gave up his rights to the image by submitting it to the news company. 2. Even if "the fan" still has the image rights, he hasn't licensed it under a free license. If he wants his image to be used "that way", then kindly email the fan and tell him to send the permissions to OTRS. 3. If you think I'm abusive you are free to request that my admin flag be removed, see COM:DESYSOP. However, considering that multiple users find this image to be a violation of policy, I doubt you'll get very far... Monobi (talk) 06:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't give a crap about Chris's image I care about how you lied on that rational. But whatever. RETIRED!!!--   ChristianMan16  06:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
What did I lie about? Monobi (talk) 06:30, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
You said you talked it out with Maxim...which according to my sources never happened.--   ChristianMan16 (retired)  06:33, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Wrong Aaron, Monobi did check with me. Maxim(talk) 18:17, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

← Guys, please! My talk page is bunged up with your back-and-forth. Firstly, User:ChristianMan16, Monobi is quite correct in this instance. Fair use images or copyrighted images are verboten on Commons. This was one of the sticking points that got you banned over on enwiki; your blatant and impervious disregard for image policy over there. So please, step back from this one and stop using my talk page as a battleground - Alison 06:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC) (lol - and stop laughing at my indiscretion just there, Monobi :-D )

Snickers about Alison's indiscretions :-) Monobi (talk) 06:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, Alison...I've once again lost my head I believe I'll stay retired here. Just to keep these situations down. I do stick with the comments made in my previous post though. I trust my sources. Alison, please forgive me. I'm just sorry overall.--   ChristianMan16 (retired)  06:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
And BTW I believe may have been wrong this time but I've been doing better and you have to admit that. Night.--   ChristianMan16 (retired)  06:45, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
No problem, Aaron. The thing is, though, that you tend to look before you leap and really, you should maybe take some time to browse through image copyright policy and copyright laws. There's tons of information on here that can help you. It's pretty complex and to be honest, I have to watch carefully where I step as even different countries have different PD criteria, etc. It's a minefield. Check out this blog posting from User:Durova, which illustrates some of the problems around images and free usage - Alison 06:47, 17 June 2008 (UTC) (and yeah, you've been doing a bit better :) )

You don't eat socks on this wiki? :-( — Monobi (talk) 05:14, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

lol - noooo!! Bad enough being checkuzar on one wiki :) All that behind-the-scenes work ... I'd say your best bet would be to try Herby or Lar - Alison 05:18, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
