Renommage de fichier

[edit]

Dadrik (talk) 21:46, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ma foi... voici déjà les pages évidentes

Then make a request here. Commons:Requests for rights
J’espère que tu vas bien @Dadrik ! Anthere (talk) 12:35, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!

2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

wiki loves women

[edit]

Hi Anthere, Just wondering if you are still as involved as you were last year? Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:39, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tough situation Ottawahitech. I am certainly following in the background. But less so in the foreground. In September we had the difficult situation of Wilson passing (facilitator of Wiki Loves Africa) where I had to urgently step in to replace him (and now to help Hilary on this path). I just attended WikiArabia in Oman, which got me quite busy (Afek was here as well !). And tomorrow, I am heading to the Wikiconvention francophone in Québec, where I will, amongst other things, present SheSaid !!! So I am quite little online in fact. Is there a way I can help you ? A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:WikiFundi Website Screenshot FR July 2017.jpeg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Hmmm. Good point. Right, I have no information regarding the credits of some of those... best to delete then. Anthere (talk) 00:06, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wrong use of the ISA Tool

[edit]

Florence, the ISA Tool is often wrongly used, e.g. Special:Contributions/SingaManu:

  • missing depict prefererred rank
  • wrongly assigning a depict statement to a proper name instead of a generic instance (e.g. Arbre instead of arbre, Ciel instead of ciel, etc.)

This leads to wrong P18 picture assignments by my bot in Wikidata (automatically adding reverse SDC depict statements in Wikidata). Proper names should only be used for depict statements directly representing the specific person, the building, or other unique object. Otherwise the lowercase generic object should be used; but to my opinion this should not be encouraged. The first use of depict statements is to identify the main object in the picture (with preferred rank). Could possibly the documentation or the guidelines for the ISA Tool be clarified? Thanks. --Geert Van Pamel 13:13, 18 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello User:Geertivp.

Whilst I had heard lot’s of things about how editors forget or put too many preferred ranks... I never heard anything about the second issue... the proper name versus the generic instance... very good point indeed. Yeah, you are right...

User:Donia (WIA), could we add this to a list of « good practices » when tagging images on ISA ? I think if the list was short and sweet, we could probably easily link to it when we do communication ? Updating the guidelines hosted on the tool itself is probably something to do at some point in the future, but we know we first need to finalize the maintainer situation. But it would be a good idea to start working on updating guidelines on the wiki for a start and host some best practices/tips and tricks in it ? What do you think ? Anthere (talk) 14:18, 23 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @Anthere for tagging. Yeah, I agree with you, preparing a nice and (may be funny) list of tips and tricks will be very useful for ISA users. I will put that in our plan for this year. And thanks @Geertivp for your recommendations, we will put that into our consideration. Donia (WIA) (talk) 10:21, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Commons:Tools

[edit]

Hi Anthere, in January 2024 you priorized translation of Commons:Tools to French only. Therefore translation into all other languages is shown as "Translating to German is not a priority for this page." Is this still necessary? Raymond (talk) 11:53, 6 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello. When I did that... it was during a demo... it was absolutely not on purpose. My mistake. I remember it was discussed after the demo and I already mentioned it was a mistake. So it should be disregarded... and just as by then... I have no idea how to cancel that. Each time I look... I see no specific prioritization. I am sorry. I do not understand how I can revert that :( Anthere (talk) 09:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I have removed the priorization now. It's hard to find where to do. On Special:PageTranslation, number 682 (currently) Raymond (talk) 10:31, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
WOW. Ok, I learned something today... very good to know ! Anthere (talk) 14:56, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
