Tell me that you'll open your eyes[edit]

@Armbrust: glad to break intellectual bread with you over Samuel B. Webb! Regarding your opinion and subsequent verdict:

"rename request declined: does not comply with renaming guidelines, it's Sam. M. Webb in the picture"

Rest assured, this is not Sam. M. Webb in the picture but Samuel B. Webb, or Connecticut revolutionary war hero, brigadier general Samuel Blachley Webb, an aide-de-camp to George Washington at one time. That's how Henry Bryan Hall etched letter "B" in cursive in Blachley's signature. Everything goes to the dogs, and NYPL is not an exception because they can't even read cursive nowadays. If you have any doubt or question, please don't hesitate to consult Correspondence and Journals of Samuel Blachley Webb, Volume 1, Illustrations With best regards, --Taterian (talk) 01:00, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Well, if the image says it's "Sam. M. Webb", than it't perfectly acceptable in the file name too. User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 10:39, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
An interesting case for discussion, how about taking it to the village pump? --Taterian (talk) 07:57, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Code numbers in file names[edit]

@ Armbrust,

thank you for the renamings!

Nevertheless I had preferred to maintain the code numbers comprised in the previous file names (Now, keep them dropped. :)
I ask for renamings relatively often.
In photos taken by myself, I also use such codes, normally the last figures of the number, the photo had on the chip. :They make it easier to identify photos of large serieses, out of which I load up only a few.
And in the co-operation of us wikipedians, I consider it a symbol of respect, to keep the code number used by the uploader, even if the rest of his file name wants correction or other improvement.--Ulamm (talk) 23:52, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Will pay more attention to keep them in the file name. User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 10:38, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

File:Red Crowned Crane Closeup Profile (12072378424).jpg[edit]

Hallo, Armbrust. Wieso kann der Name nicht geändert werden? In den von dir zitierten Richtlinien heißt es "If an object or organism was incorrectly identified in the filename (such as calling a Sylvilagus floridanus by the name “File:Sylvilagus audubonii.jpg”), this criterion covers renaming the image."

User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 10:37, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

About a recent change[edit]

Hi, you recently renamed my file Argos-logo.png, would you be able to rename it Argos logo.png, I'm not able to do it because during the process , it says that the file name exist, but it was a file that I deleted, the name should be available technically. Thank you. Bill Wong (talk) 18:25, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Already done by Rzuwig. User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 15:22, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Misspelled proper nouns[edit]

Hi. In English, proper nouns are capitalized. If I write your name as "armbrust" this is wrong. Renaming guidelines speak clearly about "misspelled proper nouns". That is a "special" rule; what you refer to in your edit summary (not rename only for capitalizing) is a "general" rule. Regards. --E4024 (talk) 15:20, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

It would be rude, but not wrong. IMO. User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 15:21, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
BTW, I was talking about what the right decision should be, not about anything else. Anyhow. Bye. --E4024 (talk) 15:25, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

File rename[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Dr._Donna_J._Nelson_Times_Square_photo.jpg&diff=288701499&oldid=288654890

Can it not be renamed at all? Having these two different files:

File:Dr. Donna J. Nelson Times Square photo.jpg
File:Dr. Donna J Nelson Times Square photo.jpg

Is really confusing. - Alexis Jazz 17:43, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

The parish has been renamed, see here. Crouch, Swale (talk) 14:04, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
