Files should NOT be renamed only because the new name looks a bit better.

--BaseSat (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
--BaseSat (talk) 15:27, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Welcome, dear translation administrator![edit]

Translation - Noun project 987.svg

Hi BaseSat, thanks for your application for translation administrator. Your request was closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of translation administrators.

Please take a moment to read our help page before marking pages for translation.

For existing translations

Make sure to move all existing translations to language subpages (/fr, /de, etc.). Pages with existing translations need to have them manually copied to the new system or some process to be created for it. Translation administrators must ensure existing translations don't get lost or hidden, or translators will be unhappy and we'll lose them.

Thank you for your contributions to Commons! --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:56, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

En is the source so it should not be renamed. Perhaps, i've made a mistake at Ата's talk --BaseSat (talk) 12:32, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Commons:Project scope/Pages, galleries and categories, Commons:Project scope/Neutral point of view, etc... please now import all the old translations, (or it will be seen as vandalism). See also COM:TN. Translation administrators must ensure existing translations don't get lost or hidden, or translators will be unhappy and we'll lose them. ;-) Greetings--Steinsplitter (talk) 17:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Neutral point of view i allready moved what do you need more? Will finish moving Pages, galleries and categories now. While writing this post you could move many instead. Where is vandalism? Did I added smth like "gfdjheirngurhngierjgi" to pages? Or did I do spam? --BaseSat (talk) 18:11, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

hello BaseSat I do not understand the reason you want to delete this photo ? I uploaded it weeks ago to use it in an article on Wikipedia Blog so what's the problem with it? would you help me please.--May Hachem93 (talk) 12:48, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi May Hachem93, Per blog's sign of the image it is you who is in the picture and in the same time you claim it is you who is the author of the photo. How did you manage to make a photo of yourself? :) If it was your friend or somebody like that who actually made a shot then (s)he should send a permission via OTRS system as it is (s)he, not you who actually is the author of the photo. I hope I have answered your question if not I'm ready to answer any further :) --BaseSat (talk) 16:39, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
Got it, but it was my friend who take the photo by my mobile which means still I am the owner, also all pictures on the blog are uploaded and used by the same way why mine is to be deleted? how could I prove its mine? --May Hachem93 (talk) 16:39, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Groundless templates[edit]

Hi BaseSat,

Please stop adding groundless permission requests to the files as you have done here. Please make sure to check file history for the evidence of permission, as in all these cases permissions were indeed added by authors of these files themselves. Moreover, this files were already marked by another user (JuTa) and were deemed correct, so please avoid marking same files for the same reason. If you find the way permission was provided is incorrect, you may want to discuss this issue on the village pump or RfC. Thanks — NickK (talk) 00:12, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

@NickK: There is a special field in {{Information}} for putting permission in it so make sure that you have filled it before accusing me in improper tagging and violating Commons:Rollback as my edits have nothing to do with vandalism. I'm not obliged to check file history/another wiki page/another wiki/your biography/something else to find where did you written a permission while there is a common field for it. JuTa's edits have nothing to do with permission issue. --BaseSat (talk) 15:49, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
I added this permission myself, so did Dzyadyk. There is no point in accusing us of not providing this permission as we effectively did provide this permission personally, and you could have seen it if you had checked the file history. Checking file history requires just one click, way simpler than adding a template, which is completely groundless. You do not need to check my biography, but you are normally supposed to check the page history for past actions. It would be rather strange to write that permission for this file is provided by the author on the description page of this very file, as it will be a kind of recursion. And I do believe your edits fit into either clearly mistaken edits of another user (if you did not notice the permission already existed) or vandalism (if you did). If you find that permission was provided in an incorrect way, please provide a policy it violates. Thanks — NickK (talk) 16:43, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Your renamings[edit]

Why did you make this renamings: [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10]? Did you read COM:LP? It is official policy of Commons. It means that these pages should have translated names.--Anatoliy (talk) 23:31, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

@Ahonc: I have not done my work on them yet because of lack of time yesterday. I have described reason very clearly - I was prepearing them to be translated via Extension:Translate. Once I will have finished they would have titles exactly the same as they have now so you may not worry. Please do not interfere doing TA stuff. :) --BaseSat (talk) 06:05, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Please provide policy which you use.--Anatoliy (talk) 10:33, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
First provide what exactly in LP I have violated in your opinion. --BaseSat (talk) 12:54, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
The last sentence: Policies and guidelines should be written in English and translated to other languages. The English version of the policy or guideline is the authoritative version on which other language versions should be based.--Anatoliy (talk) 13:19, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Please stop your renaming unless this issue will be resolved!--Anatoliy (talk) 13:19, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

I have already expained you what it will look like. Just wait if you cant just read the docs to the Extension. Extension and move to translation via it was approved by Commons' community. --BaseSat (talk) 13:21, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Your edits violate official commons policy COM:LP. You did not say what policy do you use.--Anatoliy (talk) 13:24, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
I cannot find any errors on his movings: his edit is just pre-work for mw:Extension:Translate! For keeping old translations, page with local names should be moved to new name, English name/(langcode). --레비Revi 13:28, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Your link gives empty page.--Anatoliy (talk) 13:33, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Fixed. --레비Revi 13:36, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
But where is the rule about naming? And there should be discussion about changing COM:LP before such renamings, I think.--Anatoliy (talk) 13:44, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
But, if then, why there is lots of extension-translate able pages, like templates, COM:Photo challenge, {{LGE}}, and other pages which works with Translation extension? I think there is discussion somewhere, but problem is, we cannot find it, I guess. --레비Revi 13:49, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
BaseSat renaming's was in good faith. He is very active in translations things. But i think it is a bad idea to use this tool for already translated/hig used pages. I think we should discuss this on COM:LP to avoid further confusion. Once it is known that there is a disagreement should discuss the issues on the relevant talk page rather than repeatedly undoing other users' contributions. I have reverted it for now, maybe we can merge the page in the future. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:55, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Request for feedback on my GSoC'14 proposal[edit]

Hi BaseSat,

I am planning to work on the project titled "Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content" this summer under Google Summer of Code. I have drafted a proposal for the same over the past few weeks. This project is going to help the translation adminstrators like you in a great way, as it would completely automate the tedious manual task of preparing a page for translation and then importing the translations into the Translate extension. You can check the proposal page for detailed information on how I plan to accomplish this.

As you would be an end user of this tool, it would be great if you could go through the proposal and provide feedback/suggestions. Your feedback would definitely help me improve the proposal as well help in creating an even better tool. You can do the same on the discussion page of the proposal or reply here, whichever is convenient for you. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!

P.S: I need to submit the proposal to Google by March 19, 2014.

I don't understand your deletion[edit]

Hi,

I was away from Wiki for a while, and came back to find that my personal photo had been deleted. I couldn't understand your reasoning behind the request, because as far as I know, it is common practice for people to upload a single personal photo for use in userspace. Could you please explain what policy I violated? Thanks. Jmajeremy (talk) 03:40, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I don't remember the photo but as it per my reasoning in the nomination the photo showed you in it and had you as an author. How did you manage to make photo of yourself? --BaseSat (talk) 16:04, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Please test the new feature Special:PageMigration[edit]

As a Google Summer of Code Intern, I have been working on the Mass Migration tools project for Wikimedia. We are now ready with a minimal working product. The tool helps translators and translation administrators import the old translations into the Translate Extension.

An instance of the same has been set up on labs. You can find some useful instructions on the main page.

Please test the tool and report bugs/suggestions using the link provided on the main page itself. You can have a look at the tracking bug to check already reported bugs.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Cheers. BPositive (talk) 15:01, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
