That's a w:SPAD S.XII photo there, NOT a Salmson bomber![edit]

Dear Bwmoll3:

The PIPE Here...everyone's entitled to a WHOOPS now and then, and I found one that happened concerning a 13th Aero Squadron photo that is actually of one of the rare, cannon-armed "SPAD-Douze" fighters built by France, that was armed with a 37 mm calibre CANNON in its nose! The aircraft is the only known example of the w:SPAD S.XII that the American air arm ever got in World War I, and is known to have been flown in combat by Charles John Biddle of the 13th Aero Squadron. You can also check this page to see WHAT I mean...that same photo IS there, too!

Yours Sincerely, The PIPE (talk) 15:01, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

The PIPE Here again, and thanks for the message...I'm just hoping that the pair of photos involved CAN be changed to be named "SPAD S.XII-something" in the near future by the webmasters at Wikimedia Commons !!

Yours Sincerely, The PIPE (talk) 13:32, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Dear Bwmoll3: The PIPE Here again...just posted to your WIkimedia Commons page about HOW to do the name change on the photos you submitted of Capt. Biddle's SPAD XII...hope you can do it all right! Yours Sincerely, The PIPE (talk) 11:23, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

renames[edit]

Hi! Please don't forget to use the complete file name WITH extension when adding rename requests! Thanks! :) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:47, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

F-82 renames[edit]

Hey there, I noticed you changed the title for File:449th FAWS North American F-82H Twin Mustang 46-377.jpg. I was wondering what indicated to you that this was a post-H conversion rather than a pre-conversion G model, since the source specifically called this aircraft a G. Additionally, I would suggest that, per Commons:File renaming, these files really should not have been renamed (they were not misleading, vandalism, meaningless, etc); but what's done is now done. Huntster (t @ c) 01:45, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Yes, it was built as a P-82G and assigned to one of the FEAF squadrons (68th probably, as 375 and 378 were assigned to the 68th FAWS). You can see in the photo the tail is painted arctic red, so the photo was taken after the conversion 377 was actually the last of the line, being the final F-82 in USAF service when it was retired at Elmendorf in November 1953. Take care :) Bwmoll3 (talk) 07:26, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Great information, thanks for that! Huntster (t @ c) 00:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Heya Bwmoll3[edit]

Can you think of any better category for File:ARCC.jpg than Category:Rescue units of the United States Air Force? I figure you or Lineagegeek would know better than I. Also, I saw you create the better-named categories for the Special Tactics Squadrons and Special Operations Squadrons so I did some light lifting with AWB and moved all the categories from United States Air Force Special X Squadrons to Special X Squadrons of the United States Air Force and nominated the other two categories for deletion since I was the one who made them in the first place and they are empty and the former contents are in a better category now. Anywho, nice to see you over here. Cheers, Dainomite (talk) 08:28, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

It's aligned with Air Force Special Operations Command. It's a center, not a squadron or a group or a wing and there likely isn't all that many of them, so I would just put it into Category:Air Force Special Operations Command. Also, you may want to change the title to "Air Rescue Coordination Center - Emblem" so it's not so cryptic. Take care :) Bwmoll3 (talk) 09:27, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Back from vacation. If you retitle the image, note it is <u?\>Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. --Lineagegeek (talk) 14:49, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

The 340th Bomb Squadron Emblem/Patch[edit]

Hi,

My name is Rob, and, admittedly, I am new to this in terms of editing or making “edit requests.” As an intro, my Dad was a SAC bomber pilot in the 97th Bomb Wing and was a Squadron Commander for the 342nd Bomb Squadron (B-47s).

I liked seeing the 340th Bomb Squadron emblem/patch but the caption says that it's just for the B-52s. As you known, the unit flew other aircraft, as well: B-29s, B-50s and B-47s (all SAC).

In a way, I suppose that it all depends on WHEN the squadron emblem/patch was approved and adopted. Yet, I don’t think that the caption should be “airplane-specific,” you know? I would recommend that the caption just say that it’s a SAC squadron emblem/patch.

Just something for your consideration, OK?

Thanks, Rob

The Caption for a B-17s Photo[edit]

Hi,

I have another question, please, on the 340th Bomb Squadron page (article)…

One of your photo captions reads: “B-17Gs from the 340th Bombardment Squadron head north for Austria in the late summer of 1944. The Aircraft closest to the camera, Boeing B-17G-60-BO Fortress 42-102938 was lost in a mid-air collision during the mission to Vienna on 16 March 1944”

As usual, I am confused. The caption says that the plane is shown in the summer of 1944, but it also says that the plane was lost some months earlier. So, maybe just a typo of some kind? Maybe the photo was in late summer of 1943? Or, the collision was in 1945?

Thanks again,

Rob

Hi,

I found a great photo you uploaded of the original Operation Ranch Hand crew posing in front of "Patches," an old C-123. I'm doing historical research on the C-123. Do you know if there is a list of names to accompany the photo, identifying those in the image?

Thanks, Matt matthewschacht@gmail.com MatthewSchacht (talk) 20:17, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

I have no idea why the IP went this route to fix a caption error on en.wiki rather than simply fixing it himself, but this has been handled. Huntster (t @ c) 05:48, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Category:Squadron_emblems_of_United_States_Air_Force_airlift_Squadrons[edit]

Commons-emblem-issue.svg Category:Squadron_emblems_of_United_States_Air_Force_airlift_Squadrons has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
