Warning/About deleting comments[edit]

Please do not remove other peoples comments. People have been blocked in the past for doing so as it is considered disruptive. Thanks. -- Cat ちぃ? 14:14, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry; I didn't realise that could be considered disruptive in this case. The charges against the user in question were so obviously false that I thought it would be best to save the user the bother of responding, but I'm sorry for violating policy in this regard. Lewis Collard! (talk, contribs, en.wp) 19:16, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
No one is being "charged". I am not a judge or a prosecutor. The uploaded of the images has made a mistake. He either wants the images to be commercially free (GFDL), or wants them to be commercially unfree (cc-by-nc). It is a possibility that he doesn't understand GFDL's commercial usage compatibility. It is his intention that counts. I do not have the legal right to relicense someone else's work, which is why I am asking him.
I technically have the authority (see: template:cc-by-nc) to speedy delete them all as they can be interpreted as commons incompatible (non-commercial clause). It is the recommended action if I follow the policy to the letter. I am following the policy to its spirit. However I am not even nominating them for deletion in the meanwhile because this feels like a simple mistake.
-- Cat ちぃ? 19:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, you don't have authority to speedy them: because they are *dual-licensed* (one under GFDL, the other under an optional NC license) they are redistributable under *either*. Lewis Collard! (talk, contribs, en.wp) 20:55, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Really depends. If I were assuming bad faith I would have already deleted them... I am doing everything to keep the images. I do not quite understand your involvement with this issue. This is for the most part an issue I intend to resolve with the uploader whenever she shows up. Thanks. -- Cat ちぃ? 21:24, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Deletion requests[edit]

I can see that the deletion requests made by User:Liftarn, of your images, may have been in reaction to having his own images nominated for deletion. Assuming good faith one might surmise that, like many others before him, he might well count graffiti as murals which have copyright. But regardless, stand back a minute - you had two (?) images nominated for deletion for what you considered unfounded reasons and the tone of your edit-comments etc indicated you were *very* unhappy. Similarly he had *ALL* his images nominated for deletion ... you might expect that he wasn't very happy either (as unhappy as you x1000?), and you caught a bit of fallout from that state of mind. Best not to concentrate on side issues, but address the fundamental problem (just my two cents™ worth :-) --Tony Wills 10:40, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Dear sir,

I am the author of the audiovisuel encyclopedia and I have sent to wikipedia all the agreement from myself and from the artists for using the image.

Please, give me informations if i have another action to do for this agreement .

Sorry, i am french and spek bad english.

Best regards;

Hi Lewis. Thanks for your encouragement. I'll probably stick around a bit longer. I do have a few pics I was thinking of up loading from my christmas dive trip. I'll get around to it eventually, but I am still waiting the outcome of the weedy scorpionfish nomination on QI. Although I have retracted my comments there, it's at a stalemate at the moment. One for, one against. By the way, can I remove the "delist request" from the image itself? Or is there a process for this? Cheers! --Jnpet 02:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Do not dupe book pages[edit]

Having duplicate book pages like Image:De Wolkenkuckucks (Kraus) 006.jpg may mean that something went wrong uploading it. In such cases, please do not dupe for one image to be removed, but talk to the uploader and ask him to fix it. He may not know something went wrong and still be able to upload another page over it. Also, empty pages should not be deleted. They are needed to 'fill the gaps', so to speak. Thank you for your understanding and your help tagging. Cheers! Siebrand 14:41, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Collard, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to Commons:List_of_administrators and the related lists by language and date it references...

Please add {{Babel}} to your user page and add yourself to Commons:List of administrators and related pages (I can't do it myself due lack of Babel).

Images of User:Alfonso2[edit]

The reason is because i can't write or modify articles in (the only place i upload images for). For this reason, if i could not use my own images, i want to delete it. --Alfonso 11:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

You said: "No, you can't do that. Your problem is with es.wikipedia, not with us. Also, Keep again. While we often respect author requests on this matter, we're not here to cater for people throwing their toys from their high chairs. Your problem is with them; don't punish the rest of the world for it." [2]. Now the problem is with so i want my images to be deleted. --Alfonso 00:34, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Athens Flag[edit]

Since when do you delete an image without putting it through discussion? If I recall correctly, that image wasn't directly taken from that FoTW, but was based off of it. I would like the image reuploaded for readjustments. 16:47, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Could you please take a look at the discussion about the closing and following edit-protection of the deletion request. Link is Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Vector images. /Lokal_Profil 19:13, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Just noticed that the deletion warning on the actual template never got restored. Could you maybe fix that? Cheers Lokal_Profil 15:38, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Descent of man images[edit]

I'm going to track down a copy to scan, and upload. I'd be interested to know the reason for the haste (feel free to mail me). The scans themselves didn't look like anything special to me. Megapixie 07:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Darwin Online images[edit]

I suspect people will try to upload images from the site again in future. Perhaps we should systematically search for "Darwin-online" every so often? I noticed a Wikipedia user has uploaded one from there just a day or so ago. I'll also have to check there as well - lots of people don't upload them here, even though they should. Hi Lewis, User:Historiograf has raised in the point on the VP (and also foundation-l) that this deletion request was closed in just three days. I agree with him that this is too quick and I would like to see this discussion re-opened and extended because it has wider implications. thanks, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:12, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

re: Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Nicky pimp.jpg[edit]

Collard, he's already admitted that there were multiple photographers at the event in question. I'm concerned that he doesn't have the authority to release the "on-the-job" photographs, as they would be a work for hire. re: digicams. For an event like that you'd normally cover the range with something like a 24-70 and 70-200, and an 8GB memory card isn't exactly going to run out of room quickly (i.e. 500+ RAW images on those cameras). I'd buy it if he was swapping Canon to Canon or Nikon to Nikon, but jumping between brands is asking for trouble since lenses and flashes are incompatible between the two. If one body fails or a flash fails and you are carrying a second camera, at least you can swap the lenses/flashes to the work through the situation. re:the crappy photograph - we all are forced to use substandard equipment sometimes and accept blurry photographs - the real point is he didn't bother to correct the white balance in post - something that no self respecting photographer would do. When you have someone who uploads a mixture of not-so-great mobile phone photographs and badly white balanced digicam snaps along with pro-looking red carpet photographs, something strange is clearly going on. Hey, thanks again for unblocking me. I've asked on my talk page on the wikipedia if I can re-upload the Lisa Gerrard photos on here and start over, if its ok with you?

Glitter1959 04:18, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Glitter1959

All right, deal :-) My mother has deleted all the copyvio images off the album and will never return to it again.

Sorry, if I sounded a little mean. I was just really frustrated because the Lisa Gerrard were and still is the only photos aren't copyvio.

And by the way, I'm a girl, lol.

Thank you for the deletion[edit]

Hi! I'm Leonardo Puerta Rodríguez, and I thank you for the deletion of File:Sin Apariencia.jpg. God bless you, man, because I was who uploaded this file, and I was very worried because I couldn't delete it. But since you are an administrator, you could, and it's a blessing to me, and to Levi7as: Código Sacerdotal, whose Wikipedia article (In Spanish) I'm developing. God bless you, againd, and go Forth.

Copyvios or not?[edit]

Hello Collard, it's an important Question: What is about the pictures Image:Lisa Gerrard, Dead Can Dance reunion tour 2005.jpg and Image:LisaGerrardParis07.jpg. They were deleted as copyvio or Derivative work and the user blocked, but now all is removed after this discussion. I was informed and asked from another user, and so I deleted the pictures and blocked the user in de-WP, too [3]. I would unblock the user in de-WP, but then I saw this Deletion request and the statement of User:N ("TV screen image may be copyrighted") and User:Glitter1959 ""Screen shots at concerts aren't allowed?") and I'm confused now. Is it a TV screenshot than it is copyvio or is it a foto selfmade on a live concert than it is only a problem between the concert organizers and the photographer, when it was said "You must not make fotos". So my question is, what are the pictures now? I inform User:Glitter1959 on commons and de-WP, because I think, it's better to clear it here. Greetings -- Ra'ike T C 13:17, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Wikiproject Xbox logo.png[edit]

Hi. Sorry I didn't have the time to comment in the deletion discussion on the keep arguments, but I believe that they were seriously flawed. If you look at Commons:Copyright#Simple_design, you'll notice that while trademarks employing simple geometric shapes and common typefaces are not copyrighted, more complex designs, such as the copyrighted artistic works used in the compilation of this unauthorized derivative, do indeed fall under copyright. Microsoft asserts as much in their press materials, and the intricate arrangement of green concentric circles does not fall under the category of simple geometric shapes. Further, since this unauthorized derivative acts as a logo for a WikiProject, it infringes on Microsoft's trademark in usage in WMF-hosted content. I'd like to ask you to reverse your decision, or at least to re-open the discussion so that I may solicit reviews by several other users who are more knowledgeable in copyright and trademark law than myself. I don't think that the keep arguments adequately addressed the concerns raised in the nomination, I think that Microsoft would strongly object to such usage of its corporate trademarks and copyrighted design elements. The interpretation that this image would fit under the guidelines behind template:PD-textlogo is, frankly, naive. Thanks for your consideration, ˉanetode╦╩ 18:30, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

And what part of "unauthorized derivative work" doesn't concern copyright? The two elements used in creating this logo were copyrighted. ˉanetode╦╩ 21:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
