Thanks for the pics! A note about categories...[edit]

Thanks for uploading all the great cave photos. Just wanted to let you know that, when adding a category such as "Caves in Kentucky", you don't need to also add the categories "Caves" and "Kentucky". You can read more about how commons categories are supposed to work here. The system is a little bit counter-intuitive for people coming from a more typical tagging approach. --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 22:26, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Noted and thanks, that's actually less work than trying to cover all the bases when categorizing. I even find I keep discovering later that there was a more specific category like for the specific cave. Then I just go back and manually edit it in. --Dave Bunnell (talk) 22:54, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

You can always create the categories for specific caves if you have multiple photos for one. This is especially useful when the category corresponds to an enwiki article, since you can add the {{Commons category}} template to the article page, which helps people find the images that aren't on the article page itself. --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 19:25, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Good idea. I've largely added one from a location at a time rather than a group that might become a category, but I might create another page somewhere down the line and linking to the commons category would be useful. I've built a couple pages from scratch and have in mind another (on the La Jolla Caves, which do have a Commons Category).--Dave Bunnell (talk) 18:10, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
