Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Please note that if you won't provide a valid license in 7 days your image will be deleted and if you upload a lot of images without licenses you may be blocked from editing wikimedia-commons. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images

Hello, Davidwr!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Cowboys_Stadium_configured_for_basketball_-_cropped.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

Got it. The upload tool at http://toolserver.org/~luxo/derivativeFX/deri1.php barfed and didn't upload any text. I fixed it. Davidwr (talk) 21:18, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

File:The Torment of Saint Anthony (Michelangelo) detail.jpg

Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:The Torment of Saint Anthony (Michelangelo) detail.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

OTRS: PENDING

Dear Davidwr,

Thank you.

I have placed the following notice on the photo in question: and I have sent free license authorization email as follows:

I hereby affirm that I, Claudio A. Gonzalez, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of Family Photo, Alberto Gonzalez.jpg - a photo of Alberto Gonzalez at his birthday on Sept. 17, 2008 taken in a family gathering by me, his oldest son, as displayed on:

www.albertogonzalez-politicalsatirehumorist.com and on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Family_Photo,_Alberto_Gonzalez.jpg

I agree to publish that work under the free license "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported) and GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts).

I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.

I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites.

I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.

I am aware that the free license only concerns copyright, and I reserve the option to take action against anyone who uses this work in a libelous way, or in violation of personality rights, trademark restrictions, etc.

I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the work may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

Claudio A. Gonzalez, 1178 NE 98 ST, MIAMI SHORES FL 33138, TEL. 786-797-0099 Copywrite holder, oldest son to the subject of the photo, taken on Sept. 17, 2008 at a family function for the subjects birthday. Autopatrol given

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. Commons:Deletion requests/PAHMC

Regarding your comment at Commons:Deletion requests/PAHMC, I've been working through copyright of the whole category Category:Pennsylvania state historical markers at User:GrapedApe/PHMC. Is that what you had in mind? --GrapedApe (talk) 22:00, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Pretty much. Since you are working through the whole batch of them, I would recommend that only those items that have either been 1) shown to be under a copyright or 2) due to dates very likely to be under a copyright that has not expired be up for deletion "en masse" and that action on the other files be deferred. After the en masse deletions, go back and do the rest either one at a time or in groups where all items in the group likely have the same copyright status. Davidwr (talk) 15:00, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
 • There has been significant expansion in the scope of the DR, in case you wanted to weigh in.--GrapedApe (talk) 04:15, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice! I'll look into it when I have time

Labels

Dear David,

You have tagged the File:3 × Jägermeister (ubt).JPG as requiring permission or deletion.

I have removed the tag. At this point there is no agreement on Commons whether images depicting product labels should be deleted or not. Note the Category:Bottle labels with hundreds of such images and the parent Category:Labels with even more images, Category:Beers by country with hundreds of subcategories, etc.

The issue was discussed several times. Mike Godwin, legal counsel for Wikimedia stated: I don't believe there's a copyright problem with photographs of wine-bottle labels (source). Obviously, you don't need to agree with the present status quo. However, instead of targeting random images please consider starting a discussion on the subject in the Village pump or putting all the label categories up for deletion. Thank you!

OCPPC File

Hello Davidwr,

The file belong to the think tank affiliated to the company i'm conducting my internship in. The company is OCP (Office Chérifien des Phosphates) from Morocco and the Think tank is: Atlantic Dialogues. We do have all the rights toward the logo.

Sincerely yours — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hamzaelhamzaoui (talk • contribs) 08:04, 4 March 2014‎ (UTC)

Please either have the think tank release the logo under a Commons-compatible license on their own web site or have their legal representative follow the process outlined in Commons:OTRS. This is for their protection: Anyone can create an account on the Commons and claim to represent any company. For this reason, when it comes to things like company logos or professional-looking creations, we (the Wikimedia Commons community) usually demand a higher burden of proof of "ownership" than simply "I claim I own it/I claim I represent those that own it." The OTRS process exists for this purpose. Davidwr (talk) 08:15, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Who is "Nancy Wong"?

Hi Edmunddantes! Most all your uploads are configured with "Photo by Nancy Wong" (or similar, see also file title). Who is Nancy Wong? Do you, Edmunddantes, have permission to publish works from Nancy Wong here at Commons under a free license? For this, we need a written statement from Nancy Wong which will be processed via COM:OTRS. Gunnex (talk) 19:20, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

I am Nancy Wong aka Edmunddantes. I give myself, Nancy Wong aka Edmunddantes permission to publish my own works here at Commons under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license This is my one and only written statement which will be processed via COM:OTRS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.92.245.169 (talk • contribs)

Pictogram voting info.svg Info Ticket:2014022210011738 is a record of verification for the above statement. Should anyone have a reason to question this, I suggest writing in to permissions@commons.org quoting the ticket number. This will help us handle discussion in a mellow fashion, and maintain suitable respect for legal identities. Thank you. --Fæ (talk) 19:51, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
