In my opinion the reason you provided may qualify for speedy for fresh upload only. Also, you should have notified the uploader before deleting the image. Ankry (talk) 22:16, 28 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The reason was given in the speedy template which I checked and confirmed. Except for a Wikidata item, the file(s) were not used. Publication date was also different from the EXIF data and the photo looked very much to me like a screenshot of a video. The uploader has no other uploads (so likely was not aware of most of our rules) and likely would not have received the message either. All in all, I'd say better safe than sorry here. Hello @DerHexer I hope you are doing well. I had a display problem when translating the Wiki Loves Africa contest page. Admin Aafi has helped to resolve some of these problems.
I managed to translated this pages: Theme, Contest(but it remain the title), and Connect. But there remain these pages to complete the translation ( the menu,The Intro Box ) and the Partners Box. When I tried to prepare them for translation, I still encountered some display problems. I've also noticed that the page is categorised as ‘Pages with invalid language codes’. I'm pretty much covered for the next couple of days. — The headers of the before-mentioned templates are not marked for translation which is why you cannot translate them. Dear Martin!
Since I've been using the VFC tool for batch edits more frequently, I’ve occasionally made small mistakes. Up until now, any mistakes I've made have only affected a small number of files at once. However, if I ever make an error on a larger batch, having Rollback rights would be very useful.
I also have an example of a mistake that I corrected manually. You can find it in the files with the edit summary Missing pipe added to the location template. Here is the corresponding contributions link.
If you think it would be appropriate to grant me rollback rights, I'd really appreciate it! But of course, I'll leave the decision up to you.

I appreciate your helping get these declassified American World War II documents in German to the attention of some interested volunteers. It appears to be related to military operations in Norway but there is nobody listed as Norway local embassy. Maybe you know someone from Norway that speaks German? Thank you.

Guggst Du: Alle Bilder zu Kreta (Koules Nio Chorio und Fort Agios Nikolaos ) habe ich wohl noch nicht repariert... Ich kann Dir auch nicht mehr sagen, wann das aufgetaucht war; nach der Einführung - dass ich das "self" selbst definieren konnte - ga es ja erst andere Einführungsprobleme; das ist jetzt das derzeit "letzte".... Normalerweise lösche ich einfach den zusätzlichen entstehenden und sinnlosen self ... Eintrag ohne Inhalt, aber da ich noch Dutzende Bilder hochladen muss, nervt es mich momentan ... und leider habe ich es auch nicht bei allen in der Vergangenheit behoben, wie ich gerade bei einem Zufallscheck festellen musste. Müsste vermutlich am Besten ein Bot reparieren - vermutlich bin ich auch nicht der Einzige, dem es so geht. Viel Spaß beim Mania'n... @Commander-pirx: Mit Help:VisualFileChange.js kannst du das über reguläre Ausdrücke selbst korrigieren. Wenn du das nicht kannst, kann ich das gern für dich übernehmen. – Mir scheint das ein Fehler beim Hochladen zu sein. Mglw. das falsche Feld ausgefüllt. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

Hi DerHexer! Im writing to you because I know you are a admin here and probably know what's up :)
I uploaded five files today, and I made the mistake of choosing the wrong license (I picked CC0 1.0 but wanted CC BY-SA 4.0). I do not know much about editing on Commons, but I see that you can edit the license (?) under the header =={{int:license-header}}= {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}. At least that's what I think. Can you just edit the license under that header or do I need to remove the file to pick another license?

Hello! I came across your name on a previous Wikimedia hackathon participant page, so I thought you might be interested in this.
We're organizing the Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026, taking place on 13–14 March 2026 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. It's a two-day, in-person hackathon for technical Wikimedians from the region.
Since you've attended a hackathon before, you already know how valuable these events can be for collaboration, learning, and getting things done together. We'd love to have you join us!

The last Hackathons I attended didn't feel very welcome towards users who "only" write JavaScripts, gadgets, help out with documentation, etc. That combined with a 10 pages application form doesn't really motivate me to donate my time here when it is more valued on other places. This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.
The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

I hope you’re well and enjoy your time as a photographer on Wikimedia Commons. In my role of the new chair of the user group, I have a couple of updates to share with you.
After the election, the new board met for the first time on March 21 and immediately got to work. We elected the organization’s officers and decided to move from quarterly to monthly board meetings. We believe meeting more frequently will create more opportunities to serve our members effectively and help move the group forward.
We also successfully applied for a pre-conference at the upcoming Wikimania in Paris (July 21–25). If you’re planning to attend the conference, please consider joining us on July 21th for a day full of conversations about photography and Commons. Please sign up here if you’re interested.
And finally, it’s my pleasure to invite you to our first online meeting, which will take place on May 31. Our member Wojciech, an experienced concert photographer, will give a talk on photographing orchestras during live performances. Participation at the pre-conference is also possible without a ticket for the Wikimania. If you sign up before the deadline on July 7, you will get free access to the pre-conference day. Unfortunately, online participation will not be possible.
If you have something you want to present or you want to talk about at the pre-conference, please add it here, also until July 7.
There is also a service announcement for all photographers coming to Paris: Unfortunately, France has no freedom of panorama at all. Therefore, Commons does not accept photos of modern buildings, public art or light installations at night. Read more about the problem here.

Group photo at the meetup during Wikimania 2026
Hello DerHexer,
you are listed as a member of the Commons Photographers User Group. We are happy that we have over 340 people listed as our members. But we also want to implement rules on when inactive users are removed from the membership list, to get a realistic number of our community size.
The suggested rule is that members need one edit per year to stay a member and at least one upload to Commons to become a member.
On July 21, we had our first Wikimedia Commons pre-conference with over 40 participants as part of the Wikimania in Paris. You can have a look at the program and the slides here.
