Recent changes
- 3D models can now be uploaded to Commons. [1]
- Page Previews has been updated to use HTML for previews. This has fixed many issues. An A/B test was done on English and German Wikipedia to measure how it is used. Other changes were also made. [2]
- Some edits have to be checked against too many conditions before they can trigger an abuse filter. If that is the reason no filter is triggered the edit will be tagged for review. [3]
- Auto-saving has been added to the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. Right now it is meant to help if your browser crashes or if you accidentally close a tab. [4]
Problems
- The abuse filter did not tag all edits that should have been tagged after last week's MediaWiki version had come to the wikis. It was fixed on 9 March (UTC). [5]
Changes later this week
- You can notify users in edit summaries. They will get a ping just as if they had been mentioned on a wiki page. This was originally planned to happen last week. [6]
- It is now possible to specify the block parameters for each filter in Special:AbuseFilter. The parameters include block duration and if the user should be blocked from editing their own talk page. The block duration is separate for anonymous and registered users. [7][8]
- A hundred Wikimedia wikis will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 13 and 14 March. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [9][10][11]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 March. It will be on all wikis from 15 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 13 March at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 14 March at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.

E-mail to Sema (Art-Hanoi) concerning North-Vietnamese coins
I wrote Sema from Art-Hanoi.dotcom the following letters concerning my recent uploads:
"I am about to import the coins of South Vietnam, I've already imported the ones from North Virtnam and will insert them into the North Virtnamese Dong article soon."
--Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 01:12, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Letter to Sema (from Art-Hanoi) updating him on the progress
"Update: I am done with every image of coins outside of the French Indochina section, if you wish to see them in use take a look at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khải_Định_Thông_Bảo for example, I will begin with Cambodia before moving into the more general French Indochinese coins, and I'm already done with French Cochinchina and French Tonkin. If you want to take a look at Vietnamese coins from various periods in history this is what I've been able to find so far: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Coins_of_Vietnam_by_period Again, thank you so much for providing this permission. 😉😊"
This message was sent outside of a Wikimedia project, but as it concerns Wikimedia Commons I am publicly sharing this on-wiki as I believe that information should be freely available to the public. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 03:15, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
e-mail to Andrew West regarding Flying cash images on Wikimedia Commons
"Could you please check if this image:

Is an an accurate modern reproduction? I am not sure if your expertise extends into this field as you've never studied banknotes. I have actually been delving quite deeply into the history of Song Dynasty era Jiao,I, Guanzi, and Huizi and haven't found that much information. My largest issue is that most sources are written in Simplified Chinese, I can read Traditional Chinese characters but that's like making a puzzle with only half or ⅔ the pieces... You never get the full picture. What is your preferred method of studying? Well, as a linguist there are probably a lot less hurdles for you as you can more easily navigate unfamiliar lingual grounds.
P.S. (Post-Script) There's a user called Renevs who is a huge fan of yours and has every book you've ever written, though I personally don't like him maybe you would be interested in discussing Chinese history with him (he mostly specialises in the Yuan), he can be found here:

I don't have that much time to contribute to Wikimedia projects after the average waiting time for this ticket and might not be able to import everything later this year.

For the time being i am using my wife's BlackBerry to take pictures 📷, I am personally the person taking the pictures so these are "my own works", but I will not list my wife's BlackBerry under my "camera's" for the simply reason that this is a provisional measure and not a permanent solution. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (Talk 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:03, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Latest news from the Wikimedia Collaboration team, about Map improvements 2018, Notifications, Structured discussions and Edit Review Improvements. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you.
What's new?
The Collaboration team has announced the start of a new project: In-Context Help and Onboarding. The idea is to improve retention of new wiki editors by giving them short tutorials and other training experiences related to, and triggered by, their current activities on the wikis (that’s the “in context” part). The project follows from the conclusions of the New Editor Experiences research. The work is in its very early stages, but we’d like to hear from people with ideas on the subject—particularly if you have experience supporting or training new contributors.

- Preferences panel on Special:Notifications was overlapping other elements. This has been fixed. [18]
Future changes
- An important work is under progress to allow thanks of log entry. This is done by the Community Tech team. [19]
Structured discussions [More information • Help pages]
Recent changes

Problems
- It was not possible to opt-in and opt-out Structured discussions on wikis using it as a Beta feature. It is now fixed. [21]
Future changes

Changes later this week
- Some of the interface icons and text sizes will change slightly, as part of the updates for improved accessibility and consistency. These icons are used in many features, including Notifications, Recent Changes, Beta Features, Visual Editor, 2017 Wikitext Editor, Code Editor, and others. While editor toolbars, dialogs, and menus will appear slightly bigger; elements on special pages will be slightly smaller. Functionality will not change. [23] [24]
- The deprecated #toc and #toctitle CSS ids have been removed. If your wiki was still using these for fake Tables of Content (ToC) then these might lose their styling. They can be replaced with .toc and .toctitle classes where appropriate. [25]
- TemplateStyles will be deployed to the Wikivoyages on 28 March 2018. [26]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 March. It will be on all wikis from 29 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 27 March at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be one hour earlier than usual on 28 March at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- From 9 April, the sort order of categories will be distorted for a short time. We are upgrading versions of an internationalisation library (ICU) and using a maintenance script to update existing database entries. This will last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on wiki size. Read more details. [27]
- Changes are coming to search for Serbian projects. Cyrillic and Latin variants of a word and different grammatical forms of a word will be able to find each other. Read more on MediaWiki in Serbian or English.
