Please don't blank pages[edit]

Hi DoxTxob,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Categroy:Loosahatchie River (Tennessee) on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. –Krinkletalk 00:16, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I've deleted it for you. Greetings, –Krinkletalk 00:16, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information. I was not aware that that is the way to go. (Dang typos!) In the future, I will request deletion in the way recommended by you. Thanks again! doxTxob \ talk 00:23, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

US Navy photos[edit]

Hi DoxTxob, regarding the naming convention for US Navy photos, please check here:

The bot categorizes photos into "Images from US Navy, location" also. Benchill (talk) 05:12, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know, the abundance of incorrect category names does not establish a standard. They were like named in this fashion by a military press person of sorts who had not much of an idea of the standards and should all be renamed because the naming is not conform with conventions. If you look over other categories you will not find many that contain "images of" (of course it is mostly images) and the capitalization is extremely annoying as well as unwanted by the naming conventions. doxTxob \ talk 17:20, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The portion "Images from US Navy, location" is from the Commons bot, and this is a convention used by others[1], e.g. FEMA, KIT, etc. The capitalisation is certainly wrong, one solution is to create a category redirect to the correct name. Benchill (talk) 01:40, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it's too complicated just skip it. It is not that important, really. I see the difference now between the "Images from US Navy location xxx" and the "US Navy in xxx" (where "xxx" is the location) and that does make sense to separate the user taken images from the US Navy taken images. Thanks for the explanation above. Have fun and take care, doxTxob \ talk 01:45, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Craighead County, AR Courthouse?[edit]

Hello. I have enjoyed your many images from the Memphis area, including many NRHP properties in the Arkansas delta. I have been adding your historically significant images to appropriate pages on Wikipedia like this one, which you have contributed to significantly. I ran across File:Jonesboro AR Veterans Memorial downtown.JPG and a few similar files. This memorial appears to be near the Craighead County Courthouse, and I was wondering if you happened to have photographed that courthouse during your trip? If it would please you, I was wondering if you would consider uploading a spare photo of the courthouse to help me continue to complete w:List of Arkansas county courthouses and a few other pages. Again, thanks for all your photos. I wish I had the opportunity to photograph the Memphis area as extensively as you have, it is a great region, but for now I am relegated to the Fayetteville, AR area. Cheers Brandonrush (talk) 18:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, it is the court house in the backgroud of the Veterans Memorial. I do not have a photo of the court house, though, unfortunately. Which is a shame because that is one of the buildings I usually take a photo of in my neverending effort to document the south. When I took the photos in Jonesboro, my intentions were different. I took a bunch of those photos on assignment for an interior design company who needed some for the decoration of six O'Charley's Restaurants in the Mid-South, among them Jonesboro. (There are no copyright issues, though, they prefer to pay less and not purchase the copyrights; no exclusivity required). They were looking for conversation pieces that can hang above a table and make people think "Where have I seen that before?". I could travel the south on a few long weekends and do what I like: Taking photos! That was much more fun than my regular work. Even more fun is how they found me: Through Wikimedia Commons when they were searching for images for a restaurant in a Memphis suburb.
I still have not been at the Restaurant since their renovation to see which of the photos they chose, that visit is still ahead of me. So next time I am in Jonesboro, I will make sure to take a photo of the court house. I might even go there on one of the next weekends, it is just a little over an hour drive from where I am at. doxTxob \ talk 20:48, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that is an interesting story indeed. I appreciate your efforts, photos really are worth a thousand words especially for the many interesting locations you have photographed. Good luck in your travels! Brandonrush (talk) 17:44, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hast du, anonymer Commons Benuzuer "DoxTxob", die Erlaubnis zur freien Veröffentlichung von Herrn "Thomas R Machnitzki"? Gruß, High Contrast (talk) 22:47, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Non-building structures in Memphis, Tennessee[edit]

There should instead be Category:Structures in Memphis, Tennessee, I think, to be consistent with all the other structure categories in Commons. There doesn't seem to be any need for a separate non-building structures tree, since the only difference is the inclusion of the Buildings category. ghouston (talk) 10:52, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good idea, thanks for letting me know. When I started categorizing the non-building structures I looked around a bit to see if I could find something with similar content but did not find any, so I was not sure how to name it and decided that non-building structures wuld be okay enough for the start. I am somewhat familiar with certain category naming patterns but not with all of them. If you say that your suggestion is consistent with existing patterns or a standard, then the category name should be adapted to achive consistency. That is important for content to be found easily.
How whould I best do that without having to change all the subcategories by hand? doxTxob \ talk 21:37, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it becomes a subcategory of Category:Structures in the United States, once you add one for the state too. I think there is a bot that can do the renaming, I'll look into it. ghouston (talk) 00:41, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I requested the change at User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. ghouston (talk) 00:52, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cool! I very much appreciate your efforts for consistency and for your help in this matter! Thank you very much! doxTxob \ talk 01:36, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan, At first I was not sure why you applied the tag at all. Apparently, both of my hands can be seen and from this fact you deducted that I could not have taken the photo myself... Which is correct. I was on a walk with a friend when I got bitten by a snake after picking it up. I asked my friend to take the photo. She as the actual creator of the images gives her consent to publicize it. Is that sufficient? doxTxob \ talk 19:48, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Category:Non-pursuit_MPD_vehicles[edit]

Category discussion warning

Category:Non-pursuit_MPD_vehicles has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hi. This photo taken and uploaded in 2013, he died in 2015. And his wife Mona was (and still, I think) alive. How could that be?--Kursebi (talk) 21:18, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
