SV update

Nice pics of Cowes Week you've uploaded. I should have said before though, somehow I have managed to totally screw up Princes/Princess Green. I'm not sure how I managed it, and I don't know for sure which name is correct, as unlike Princes Esplande where the road name is obviously on display, there's nothing for the green. If I ever find out then I think a mass move of images could be in order! Also, did you mean the Red Arrows were viewed from Princes Green as it looks very much like the front of the RYS!! I seem to have lost my photos of them...

A third Solo has now arrived - 2618 apparently, which fortunately I had a photo of in Salisbury which is good, only the back though but better than nothing. File:Wilts & Dorset 2618 R618 NFX rear.JPG. The rear advert suggests a certain amount of fate of transfer to the island!

I don't know whether you saw or heard about the Scania OmniLink demonstrator 2000 (YS10 XBO) that was over to cover while the Scanias have to leave the island one by one to have work done on them? Unfortunately it's now gone to Poole, for actual demonstration purposes (they are already demonstrating various other low floor full-sized single-decks there, whereas obvious SV don't need any). In its place is Wilts & Dorset 101 (HF54 HFO), one of the more liveried Volvo B7RLEs (good buses!). Hopefully this will stay for a bit longer. Arriva436talk/contribs 11:50, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've just rediscovered them from an external hard drive I hardly ever use, so I've got some even better ones from 2008 which are next on my list. I did a quick search:
From that Princes Green looks more likely, especially as that's what the IW Council website is referring to it as... So if they're renamed, should it include the apostrophe? The other problem is some sites show an apostrophe and others don't! You're right about the Red Arrows, they were viewed from the Royal Yacht Squadron, I'd got confused because my Red Arrows photos from 2008 were from the Green and my fireworks photos from every year were from the green.
I had seen the Scania and got a photo of it at Coppins Bridge on route 5, I wasn't sure what file name to give it when it eventually comes to uploading it though? Editor5807speak 18:29, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Ah - that could well be the reason I can't find the photos, now you say that I've got a feeling I only photographed them in 2008, and then actually watched them properly in 2009! I'd done the search and it's still quite ambiguous, I can even find a mention of it as "Princess Green" on the IWC site. I suppose we ought to rename them at some point, but I'm reluctant to do it until I'm certain! Next time I'm over, I'll have to look to see if I can find any solid evidence on the green, and if not then we'll move them to "Princes Green" - as it does seem to be the common most name. "Princes Esplanade" doesn't have an apostrophe, (I've specifically checked: File:Gurnard Princes Esplanade.JPG, File:Gurnard Princes Esplanade pillar.JPG), so I'd leave Princes Green without one too.
As for the demo, that's a tough one. I would name it usually under the "(Type of bus) (registration) demonstrator" - but seeing as the bus was actually on loan to SV to cover OmniCity maintenance, rather than on demonstration purposes, I'd name it "Southern Vectis 2000 YS10 XBO" Or you could even do "SV 2000 YS10 XBO Scania OmniLink demonstrator". I'm glad you managed a photo! Arriva436talk/contribs 19:13, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Having thought about it I like the "Southern Vectis 2000 YS10 XBO Scania OmniLink demonstrator" name. I have made another checklist so we can keep track of stuff, this time it's the SV fleetlist: User:Arriva436/SV vehicles. It's quite good as we're doing well on this one with a decent amount of coaches photographed. Feel free to update it, I could well have missed one or two things out as the cats seem to be playing up at the moment and showing everything in two different sets of alphanumerical order, which is both bizarre and quite annoying!
Nice photos again, sorry to be a pain but can you just confirm that the correct dates are shown on all the files, as the metadata seems to be all over the place!! Arriva436talk/contribs 21:54, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
That's the name I thought was best too, so I'll upload it as that in due course. I've noticed that as well with the categories. The fleet list looks good and will definitely help show what's left to do. Just a thought, do you have details of the Wightbus fleet at all? With it being axed at the end of August it would be good to get every vehicle done as well. I've looked online and have neve been able to find a list... As for the metadata, sorry about that. Just before Cowes Week I leant my camera to someone, which caused even more problems! But I know the Cowes Week stuff is correct. The daytime photos were definitely taken on Saturday the 2nd (I remember because it's my birthday!) and the others in the evening were taken on the following Tuesday because I remember being very busy during the day and only had time to go down in the evening. Editor5807speak 22:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
OK, that's cool. I don't really have any Wightbus details, I can try and find out. I think we've got pretty much everything actually. I think the only vehicles we didn't get that have now left (the UVG Darts and coaches have gone) are coach P125 TDL and the really old coach (I'm not entirely sure that has left). We might have missed one or two of the older Mercedes Sprinters that returned to the leasing company in exchange for the newer ones as well. The only other reg I've heard of recently is WX07 UHF. I'll try and find out more. Also, I've just heard some ex-Go-Ahead London PVLs (B7TL/Presidents) are headed for Go South Coast, due to join the events fleet, so that's worth keeping in mind. A shame we didn't get the VRs in the events fleet, they'll probably go now. Arriva436talk/contribs 22:45, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

That sounds alright then. I don't think I've ever seen WX07 UHF, but I'll keep a look out. Also while I've got your attention, thanks for correcting the year in all those Red Arrows photos, I copied the text from the 2009 images but must have missed the date, which must have been a pain to correct! Anyway, I've now done all the Cowes Week stuff I had lying around from previous years so I'll move back to 2011 photos. Your ones of the 35 so far look great! It's nice to have some decent images of Newtown finally as well! Editor5807speak 20:04, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, I completely forgot to say last time thanks for confirming the metadata (I really should stop posting when I'm half asleep)! I just wanted to check what the situation was. No worries about the Red Arrows, I was doing something at the same time so it wasn't too bad. The database kept locking every few images or so which wasn't great though! Commons seems to be all over the place at the moment. Sound good, I assume you've finished your 2010 shots now then? (I'm regretting having so many photos, I'm still a while away from finishing 2009 lol. Then only 7,000 photos from 2010 to go!!). Thanks re the 35 - I was quite pleased, despite the weather. While I was waiting I thought it would be a good idea to get some shots of Newtown, glad you like them. I'll have to go and get some of the nature reserve one day. I didn't really take many bus shots while I was over (which rapidly changed soon after I arrived in Lymington!) Arriva436talk/contribs 20:44, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

And as I'm sure you're aware, route 3 will be running via Whitwell while Newport Road in Upper Ventnor is closed off. Should be interesting. Arriva436talk/contribs 18:05, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, that does sound interesting. I'll try to get some photos of it. Editor5807speak 19:01, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Service changes

You have timed coming back from Wikibreak well - as something has actualy happened! As well as the extention of route 2 back to Ryde (the timetable of which is on Traveline), we now know that route 7 will increase to every half hour, half of which will serve Bouldnor and Cranmore rather than Thorley and Wellow (sadly still nothing serving Newbridge and Calbourne though...). Unfortunately someone saying "I see that the 7 is going to serve Bouldnor / Cranmore again hourly from 17th April - all the flags are out" sounds like we've missed the boat with the flags, although I've no idea whether they've managed them all yet. Really quite annoying as I was passing they other day and had I known I'd have stopped and got some of the school bus flags... I did manage to get plenty of photos of 101 though which was good (ironic that one of the buses that caused the B7s to be renumbered from 100-106 has actually made it to the island!). As you can probably tell by my lack of contribs I've been very busy recently. Arriva436talk/contribs 16:17, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

I'd seen the County Press article saying route 7 was going to see extra services and had assumed they would werve Calbourne, but obviously not which is a shame. I'm guessing the increased service levels will be carried out by the OmniDekkas being brought back into regular operation as opposed to just operating school routes? I may have time to check the flags for route 7 before the timetable changes, but will also be quite busy as well. Luckily I have next Tuesday and Wednesday off, so I'm planning one last attempt to get route 20 done as well as the bus stop flags between Ryde and Brading without the number 2 on them. Editor5807speak 17:56, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Quick update: There's another Scania loan bus on the 5 now, YN06 CJE, and OmniCity. Not sure if it will be over for long or what. The visitor information centres at Ryde and Newport opened today as you might know? Yarmouth is being done, and three of the Iveco minibuses are being converted for the mobile points at Cowes, Shanklin and Sandown. Beware that the new Wightbus timetables shown on the SV website aren't actually correct, though I don't think (apart from the 20) that there's anything stopping that we won't be able to get later, it will just be harder as services have reduced, though I'm not too confident about Rew Street and the 30. Have you managed the 20 at Seaview and the bus stop flags on the way there yet?
The other thing is are you still OK to make Bustival? Arriva436talk/contribs 18:12, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. As you've probably noticed, by contributions have been a bit quiet lately due to problems with the internet. Luckily everything is now sorted though. I've got a photo of the OmniCity on route 5, so should I use a similar name to the other one? "File:Southern Vectis YN06 CJE Scania OmniCity demonstrator.JPG", but does it have a fleetnumber as well? I've seen the visitor information centres at Newport and Ryde, and the mobile sites at Cowes, Sandown and Shanklin sound interesting too. So far I've struggled with the 20 to be honest. The timetable running Monday-Friday daytimes is exactly when I'm busy, but from Monday with the Easter holidays I will have some time and should definitely be able to do it in the first week when it will still be in operation. And yes, I still plan to go to Bustival to get photos. Editor5807speak 20:32, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
OK all sounds good. My contribs have been very quiet recently too as I'm so busy, and probably will be until June! CJE's fleetnumber is 2001, despite the fact it clashes with a Bluestar OmniCity come to think of it. Arriva436talk/contribs 20:45, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Famous at last

I don't know whether you're a regular reader of the Omnibuses blog http://www.omnibuses.blogspot.com/ or its sister sub blog Dorset Bus http://d-bus.blogspot.com/ , but as you can see from http://d-bus.blogspot.com/2011/06/apple-carts.html they've used your picture of Wightbus' R302 BDL! Arriva436talk/contribs 08:20, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen it. Luckily now I'm nowhere near as busy as I had been in recent months so expect to see more uploads on here, and I'm going to try to make some decent inroads with getting Wightbus done as well! Editor5807speak 18:58, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good, it will be good to get Wightbus done without a mad rush at the end! Festival soon, I believe SV are doing it all by themselves this time except for some extra buses from Velvet as per last year. Would be good if you can find the two Bristol VRs this time, as I really don't think they'll last much longer with loads of ex-London Volvo B7TLs arriving. According to the latest fleetlist I've got, one is 4431 (GEL 681V) in all over blue, the other 4435 (GEL 685V) in the old Damory livery (white/turquoise). I think someone was taking the piss with allocating the names, they are the rather 'delicate' Shag Rock and Frenchman's Hole respectively!
The other thing is that coach 055 has been treated to the same colours as 053. Apparently they are on a continuous cycle of tour work on the mainland, so you'll do very well to actually see one - but hopefully one day someone will!! Arriva436talk/contribs 20:20, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Festival buses

As well as the aforementioned VRs, the other things confirmed as being of interest are Velvet buses F302 MYJ, F303 MYJ, F309 MYJ and L131 ELJ. The first three are like the ones over last year, except they are due to leave the Velvet fleet soon I think so it might be good to get photos of all of them. L131 ELJ is an ex-W&D Spectra, and is still in full North Somerset Coaches livery, despite being with Velvet. There are also two Xelabus buses over running on a service from the Festival site to and from Sainsbury's, they have adverts for the service on their offsides which might be good to get. Not sure if they serve the actual bus stop at Sainsbury's, given buses no longer use it it might be a good photo! Not sure how busy you are or what you're managing but I thought I'd tell you so know what to look out for. Arriva436talk/contribs 12:31, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. I've got 302, 303 and L131 ELJ but not 309 yet. The good news is that I have managed a photo of 4431, and whilst I haven't got 4435 yet, I took a number of it in service last year and at Bestival, although back then it was numbered 5069? I was going to ask you about Xelabus, as I've never heard of it before, so thanks for that. I've got some photos of it at Sainsbury's, and it seems to use the drop-off point by the cash machines. I've got the shuttles operating services from Newport, Cowes, East Cowes and Ryde. The Festival itself is covered pretty well too as I've actually gone this year, so I've got loads more than just the buses to put up. It could be interesting tomorrow with all the rain that's been forecast! Editor5807speak 01:30, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Excellent. You got 309 last year so that's all good, we have relatively recent photos of all of them. With the company no longer using the "Black" part of their name, I thought it might be an idea to name them like this one File:Velvet Bus 507 V7 GMT 2.JPG. With the company adopting fleet numbers and not using the Black part of their registered name as the trading name it's all got a bit messy. I might rename them all one day with your assistance, but I don't know whether to put the fleet numbers on file names on photos taken before the fleet numbers were introduced... maybe sort keys would be better. Good to see you've got the VRs, I forgot about 4435 and Bestival last year. 5069 was presumably its old Damory number, they all used to begin with 5s I think, even when they moved from W&D to Damory they used to have their numbers changed. Of course this sort of thing no longer happens with a move to a unified-ish number system across GSC. Good to see you've got photos of all the other stuff too. Good luck with the weather! Arriva436talk/contribs 10:36, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Just checked the SV Twitter page and saw something interesting. The 5, 9 and 25 are obviously diverting via Staplers out of Newport, and if needed calling into the Festival bus station when running into Newport (and when Fairlee is shut each night are shut diverting via Staplers into Newport) - however due to bad traffic delays the 5 and 9 were running into Newport via Staplers at 1300 today. Arriva436talk/contribs 14:57, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
That's good then, when I upload my photos I'll upload them with the new name. I also still have one of it at the Bustival to go up too. As it turns out (and you may have heard) the weather was awful, and the site quickly turned to mud. I suppose if nothing else it made the photos a little more interesting as I also took plenty of photos of the bad weather, which will contrast well with the bright sunny images of Saturday! Luckily my camera coped alright in the rain, despite getting very wet. Editor5807speak 22:47, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Update

It's been a while since I've had anything to say! But now I can say thanks re the signature issue over on Wikipedia. Basically not a lot has been happening in the fleet, other than coaches but that's too confusing to bother with. As I'm sure you'll be aware by now 625 has entered service in its Shanklin Steamer guise. The visitor information centre Ivecos are out and about too, though apparently in Cowes there have been sightings of a man sitting outside the old TIC with a table and some leaflets, rather than a bus!! Could be worth a photo lol!

There's some more Solos coming over too. Nice photos you've been uploading as usual, particularly the wildlife and landscape ones. One problem though, he is actually a Barnacle Goose! Arriva436talk/contribs 13:28, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the update, I've got some photos of the Shanklin Steamer as well as the tourist information centre at Shanklin to upload in due course. Photos of the Wightbus routes are coming along reasonably and I am just about on target to get it all done but there were a few things I wanted to clarify.
Do you know if route 24 actually travels down Oaklyn Gardens or just goes straight past like the 22 does? As Oaklyn Gardens was mentioned separately in your route table it made me think perhaps it did travel down it. Also, on the 35 at Marks Corner does the bus travel straight down Hillis Gate Road or detour and do a loop around a side road which doesn't even appear to have a name on Google Maps, but would mean it goes past a place labelled as "Kanga Catering Refrigerated Trailer". Sorry about being vague, but it would make sense if it did serve this area as there are houses down there, it's just there appear to be no bus stops on Google Maps and I didn't want to go down only to discover the bus doesn't use the road!
Thanks about the goose photo as well. I'm not too knowledgeable about bird names to be honest! There may be a few Wightbus locations I might stuggle with, like Yafford which could involve a lot of walking or waiting around for a number 6 or 12 bus as I won't have a car but hopefully I'll manage! Editor5807speak 21:58, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Both good questions, I can only answer one though! According to the map in the summer 2010 IWCC timetable book (a good job I have that as the SV maps don't include Wightbus stuff...), route 24 does not go down Oaklyn Gardens. I assume I put it in the table as it's one of the timing points. I don't know about the 35. The one I wasn't sure about was whether the 35 goes into the holiday camp at Thorness, but having just checked the Traveline timetable it seems it does. Anyway, the all stops version of the Traveline timetable shows it as being timed two minutes from Thorness to Hillis Corner, then another two minutes to the stop named "Marks Corner". Two minutes between Hillis Corner and Marks corner would suggest it does run direct, especially given how narrow that other road is when I checked it on Street View.
The good news is there's a least three proper, actual bus stops between the main road and Hillis Corner! Here's one http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Marks+Corner,+Newport&hl=en&ll=50.721161,-1.305356&spn=0,0.013057&sll=50.638024,-1.176149&sspn=0.004729,0.013057&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.721175,-1.305203&panoid=af1uSWJF86UxFANksdylpA&cbp=12,241.57,,1,4.84 , here's two http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Marks+Corner,+Newport&hl=en&ll=50.727703,-1.325651&spn=0,0.013057&sll=50.638024,-1.176149&sspn=0.004729,0.013057&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.727703,-1.325651&panoid=TwKepNgEbdvVLR3dzyLslg&cbp=12,278.32,,0,7.47 and here's three: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Marks+Corner,+Newport&hl=en&ll=50.733913,-1.334081&spn=0,0.013057&sll=50.638024,-1.176149&sspn=0.004729,0.013057&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.733913,-1.334081&panoid=MPKjbgA--OKp9-zWMRQUiw&cbp=12,172.37,,0,7.32
Additionally, there's a pole missing a flag, but this is marked as a stop on Google/by Traveline so is worth a photo: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Marks+Corner,+Newport&hl=en&ll=50.720536,-1.312941&spn=0,0.013057&sll=50.638024,-1.176149&sspn=0.004729,0.013057&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.720525,-1.313112&panoid=yCQHyRePTjXZYQAQWfwMCA&cbp=12,71.01,,2,2.07 Also, between Hillis Corner and Thorness, there's the road sign on the old SV pole, which might be worth a photo. The green paint's a real giveaway isn't it! http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Marks+Corner,+Newport&hl=en&ll=50.73399,-1.342231&spn=0,0.013057&sll=50.638024,-1.176149&sspn=0.004729,0.013057&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.733882,-1.342515&panoid=RPBCI_OhYic-gVLaTdnkMw&cbp=12,247.94,,0,7.5
I suppose if you wait at Marks Corner where the road splits (on the southern part of that loop road would be best?), you'll find out which way it actually goes without missing it!
The even better news is while looking for the answer, I found the Dial a bus timetables! http://www.iwight.com/council/departments/engineering_services/transport_fleet/images/WightbusTimetablesApril2011.pdf
Good to hear about the Wightbus progress. Hopefully I should be able to get the 30 at Rew Street when I'm down soon, so if you want to put that to the back of your list then please do!

Note the lack of 35 and 36 - guess why?! Also, note the 34. I wonder what that's about. Apparently SV are only going to be providing these volunteer buses from 0900 to 1400 Mondays to Fridays, so they're still going to be pretty useless services. To think that Gurnard and Havenstreet once had decent bus services! Arriva436/talk/contribs 13:51, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying about the 24. I thought about doing a journey to Yarmouth on the 35 before actually getting any more photos to see the exact route it does which will also clarify where exactly it goes at Thorness Bay.
I was actually at Full Council when some of the services were announced and had heard about a circular service around Wootton and Havenstreet which is a little surprising as I would have thought it would be much easier to just amalgamate the current route 33 with the proposed route 34 and save a bus! It was pledged the 35 and 36 would both continue as they are so it's strange that they haven't been included. However, there appear to be a few missing, as it was also stated at Full Council there would be a new volunteer service around West Wight (I'm guessing similar to the old route 13 service), and as route 6 is being extended to St Lawrence a new service for Ventnor to serve all the other bits like Bonchurch that the 31 currently serves. Even the Esplanade will get a service. We'll have to see what happens anyway, to be honest I'm pretty sceptical about how long it will all last before volunteers start pulling out so I intend to get it photographed pretty quickly! Editor5807speak 23:47, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
So will this 34 not link to Ryde or Newport then? If not, then it's pretty useless! Apparently the 36 will be run by FYT bus, (http://fytbus.org.uk/FYTbus/Home.html), who will presumably run the West Wight community bus too. Why the background picture of their homepage is down by The Luck then is anybody's guess... (come to think of it, is it only people from Cowes & Gurnard that know where The Luck is?). I don't know about the 35 though. As you said, we'll see what happens regarding the other routes, though there's no prizes for guessing where Wightbus' five low floor Darts are headed... Arriva436/talk/contribs 17:18, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
I haven't heard anything about the 34 going through Newport, but I'm sure more details will come soon about it. If I'm honest I hadn't actually heard of "The Luck" before! Editor5807speak 18:57, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

It's the bit between Marsh Road and Rew Street where the stream goes into the sea. The bus stop (well, when SV actually had a flag there) was named as such. Been trying to upload the rest of my February 2011 island photos (I'd forgotten how bad the weather was on 23rd!), but I seem to have some sort of problem with Commonist, as even though I have named all the files in the folder I want to upload, only the ones I named ages ago come up as such, the others are still all "P19030927.JPG" or whatever. So I decided to try the new file upload wizzard. Well, I won't be using that again, it was crap! You can only upload ten things at a time, it took ages to upload, there's no function to add one category to all images, one file failed to upload and they've all been uploaded with ".jpg" instead of ".JPG", which irritates me as it's inconsistent with all my other images! Typical. Anyway, soon I'll get to the Bembridge uploads, with the public toilets, where I've been having some problems. These must be the "Lane End" ones: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Lane+End+Road,+Bembridge&hl=en&ll=50.688506,-1.072841&spn=0,0.013057&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=18.094759,53.481445&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=50.688562,-1.072705&panoid=AiFPlhsY6TG3aBgfKtUTrw&cbp=12,87.92,,0,-2.07 ?

The Steyne Road ones I didn't manage a photo of as there were little kids everywhere must be the ones off Steyne Road, I guess? http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Steyne+Road,+Bembridge&hl=en&ll=50.684744,-1.086468&spn=0,0.026114&sll=50.68856,-1.072701&sspn=0.004751,0.013057&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=50.684744,-1.086468&panoid=GtMQuzPkLn33UiesGY4hmA&cbp=12,143.61,,0,-1.41

I also got photos of these ones either side of the Fishmongers, http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Steyne+Road,+Bembridge&hl=en&ll=50.690918,-1.088476&spn=0,0.026114&sll=50.68856,-1.072701&sspn=0.004751,0.013057&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=50.690918,-1.088476&panoid=RZdblv89116CZrC8ZTledQ&cbp=12,110.8,,1,5.32 gents to the left and ladies to the right, and also the disabled only toilets further up: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Steyne+Road,+Bembridge&hl=en&ll=50.689648,-1.089857&spn=0,0.026114&sll=50.68856,-1.072701&sspn=0.004751,0.013057&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=50.689573,-1.08993&panoid=HI5bgunC7IK03_g8hmLORQ&cbp=12,302.36,,1,1.59

Are these both the "High Street" toilets, and if so where are "The Point" and the "Harold Lewis Centre" loos? Or are one of those The Point or Harold Lewis??? Arriva436/talk/contribs 11:25, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

I tried using the new upload wizard a while ago when Commonist was down but gave up after it took so long! I'm glad I didn't bother now. The toilets next to the lifeboat station I'm pretty sure are the Lane End ones and the same with Steyne Road. I'd also think the ones next to the Fishmongers are the High Street ones too. Although I'm affraid I have no idea where The Point or Harold Lewis Centre ones are! I may try and contact the paarish council and ask as I believe they run them now, and we've then got almost everything that faced closure through the year, with only Wightbus and a few smaller things left.
The other thing that could be useful to get while your over is any recycling points if you come across any. From February 2012 the Isle of Wight Council are changing arrangements to waste collection providing a number of different wheelie bins to every house to hopefully substantially increase the amount that can be recycled. As a result, some town and parish councils (I know Ventnor is) are planning to remove all recycling points as they see them as unecessary with the new scheme in place...
Some good photos by the way! :) Editor5807speak 13:21, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, that sounds good. Those disabled only ones were very strange. I can get Cowes police station easily by the way. Will you be visiting Cowes week and getting photos? Sounds interesting about the county show park and ride and the direct non-stop services (though a bummer for me, they'll go straight past my stop!).
I'll look out for recycling, I've got one in mind but I can't actually think of that many. If I'm honest, compared to ours, the island's rubbish and recycling scheme isn't great!! Hopefully the wheelie bins will improve this a lot, but it sounds typically Isle of Wight Council sort of stuff to get rid of recycling points... what are you going to do to recycle stuff that the wheelie bins can't take?! Our bins can take a hell of a lot of different things but not everything, so you still have to visit recycling points. At the big "dumps", you can recycle pretty much everything now - it's amazing! Gone are the crushers that just pulverized everything and sent it to landfill!!
Thanks, as I said I forgot how bad the weather was, I even sank on St Helen's Green! The evening shots at East Cowes have come out quite nicely I think, except the moving shots of the Solo on the 25!
It might to too early to say, but will you be around to get the last day of Wightbus (and first day of SV)? I would have thought Wightbus will go out with a bang, given the wreath the Alero wore on the last day of the 20, so it might be special to get some last day and even last journey shots. I'd like to come over, but the Surrey CC bus review phase 2 changes are on the same weekend, so I can't! Also, due to council cuts, that Countryliner X92 to Portsmouth is being withdrawn soon, so if by another coincidence you're in Portsmouth at the right time, keep it in mind!! Arriva436/talk/contribs 20:17, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Was it these toilets by any chance (http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/whose-loos-matter-most-28157.aspx)? The article says they're the only disabled access ones in Bembridge and they look absolutely horrendous! I've already got a photo of the police station in Cowes and marked it off but of course feel free to take one of your own. I've been down to Cowes and got some photos already, the Red Arrows did their display yesterday instead of the final night this year, which I've got photos of.
With the recyling points, the variety of what you can recycle at the moment (textiles, glass and cans - that's it!) you will be able to put into the new wheelie bins as well as other stuff. It's a move that's long overdue as everywhere I go to on the mainland it seems to be standard practice to separate things into different wheelie bins...
I'd imagine I would be around for the last day of Wightbus and first day of the routes under Southern Vectis, so I'll try to get some photos. The rest of yours look good so I'll look forward to seeing them, although there seems to be more problems with Commonist at the moment... Editor5807speak 21:42, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I think it could have been, they were just in a small brick hut. I didn't go in though, obviously. And you can only get in with one of those disabled key things anyway. Not fit for purpose at all, mind you, in terms of clenliness, I've seen and had to use far worse than that!! Oh yes, so you have, I didn't notice Cowes had been ticked off. Yeah I know, I was quite dissapointed they did it Saturday this year so I missed it, espeically after last year...
Oh, it that really it?! Is it the island where you can't even recycle carboard or is it at my other relatives...? I've found this which is helpful: http://www.iwight.com/council/departments/waste/images/mini_recycling_sites.pdf Yeah we've got three different types of bins, general waste, recycling (which can take loads of different things), garden waste (optional), and now these funny food waste boxes. The small recycleing sites are still needed for stuff like drinks cartons. And, you can get rid of pretty much anything at the big dumps - which is good as we now know what on earth to do with low energy light bulbs!
OK, that sounds good, as I said I reckon they might all be showing something for the last day. When the Ride Pegasus scheme ended here, buses were decorated and some drivers in fancy dress! Arriva436/talk/contribs 12:03, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, it's me, hailing from someone's smart phone! Just to say you might want to get the Se wightbuses done soon as I tried to get the 32 and sv coach 204 was running it! Same today. Don' know why. Arriva436/talk/contribs 11:48, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

I had the same problem! I got a number of 204 on the route but this article explains why http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/new-look-to-buses-on-wightbus-routes-40097.aspx, apparently to allow Southern Vectis to re-brand Wightbus vehicles in time for the changes in September. Unfortunately that might mean routes 32 and 24 will be missed under Wightbus vehicles but I'll still get photos of the Moss buses running them. Editor5807speak 20:40, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Break

I've got a few of 204 around the route too - Wightbus get mocked for their bad blind displays but SV's was even worse. I'm not sure I believe that line, the only buses SV are taking are the low floor Darts. Do the lf Darts ever get used on the 24 or 32... no... I wonder if the council just want to get rid of the Merc Sprinter minibuses quickly rather than anything else...? SV are only taking one bus for painting at a time anyway, and Wightbus do have a margin of spare vehicles just like any other operator. Anyway - the first one is now green, and appearently will go out on Wightbus routes until September, so that should be good to get.

The new SV timetables for the routes they're running are now on Traveline, the 34 seems totally useless! You'll know better than me, but is there actually anything in Wootton worth going to from Havenstreet and Wootton Estate? Tesco Express hardly counts! Late decision sees the 35 and 36 returning to SV after all. Also, this is recent on VOSA...

PH1101322/1 - BRIAN COATES AND KENNETH CHARLES DAY T/A B & B TAXIS, 78A HIGH STREET, ISLE OF WIGHT, VENTNOR, PO38 1LG Registration Accepted by SN Starting Point: VENTNOR Finish Point: VENTNOR Via: Service Number: 31 Service Type: Normal Stopping/Hail & Ride Effective Date: 05-SEP-2011 Other Details: Monday - Friday

I didn't get as much Wightbus as I'd like done - mainly because they were already SV! I tried to get the 24 prior to knowing it had gone SV, but I'm not so bothered I decided to wait for the Shanklin Steamer instead now! I got some shots of the Steamer at the esplanade, various recylcing points, SV's terrbile efforts on route 1 including a period of 50 minutes where only one MPD turned up at Cowes Co-op, the queue was massive by the time the next few buses all arrived at once, going all round the Co-op and into the High Street... so I took photos of that too! I got some X1s as I'm sure you did, and also the open tops out on the 1 too! Also got tonnes of Cowes photos, I think I saw you actually. Got lucky with the postition at the fireworks too, so ended up taking more photos there than I intended...!

Also got a Somerfield lorry getting stuck in South Street which meant all buses got stuck for 15 minutes (unfortunately a SV driver had blocked a box junction which made it far worse), and went on the 21 in the rain!! Sadly I didn't think I might see the 35 about, so I missed getting it over the side of the bus in Newbridge (I'd sat outside). I also missed at 12 at Totland as he didn't stop before the roundabout, instead turning first and then dropping everyone off, which screwed me over. I did get the 12 in Freshwater twice though, the 7 was running absolutely horrendously (usual SV summer service!), with all but one bus out on the route 15 minutes+ late, mine was 20 minutes late - though it did allow a good OmniDekka/City comparison shot. I think that's everything! I've went overboard with photos, there's at least 700 to sort out now, which will take ages to upload as I need to to the other island ones and Southampton ones first... Arriva436/talk/contribs 18:35, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

I've never actually seen the darts on routes 24 and 32 and I agree, it seems bizare they need to stop them all operating if they're only being repainted one at a time... I've noticed a few stranger workings as a result, like the Plaxton Beaver on route 33 the other day. There's actually a photo of HW54 DCF on the Southern Vectis Facebook page under 'Wall photos', so I'll try and find that when I'm out too.
I have no idea what they were thinking with the 34, it would have made far more sense to incorporate Wootton Estate into the 33 and save a bus, and a volunteer as it must be one of the most boring routes to drive in the country! I'd heard about the 31 replacement being run by the taxi company which should be interesting as it will mean a service for Ventnor Esplanade for the first time in years. It sounds like you've done a great job with other photos! I got loads of photos around Cowes too, nothing like 700 though!! It wouldn't surprise me if we went passed each other from time to time during the week. I also got lucky with my position at the fireworks so took loads of photos. It wouldn't surprise me if we were stood next to each other there too! I was at the bottom of Princes Green, at the railings down from the funny shaped tree. Shame about the 35, it's probably my worst Wightbus photo, so I'm going to try and re-take it if I have time and the rest is done. Unfortunately right when the bus came a small child got out of a car which had stopped to post a letter which really messed things up. I got a rear shot which ended up ok though. It'll probably be a while till I get mine all up too. I look forward to seeing yours though! Editor5807speak 19:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I got KX56 OVU on the 23. Four buses all trying to use stand F at once - chaos! The 33 looks to be a really limited service now - presumably they expect everyone to catch the 34 and change onto the 9 or something, not great with this country's dislike of changing buses. And especially not great when you consider how badly route 9 is run! I also note that the 32 doesn't finish at noon now - good... but (at least on Traveline) the Newport 30 journey seems to have gone, which is a shame as it seemed well used, even if the elderly passengers did have to walk back/pay for a taxi on the way back! I've got 700 photos from the whole trip (including about 50 in Southampton - hence I need to upload the Soton photos first as well), not just in Cowes. I had a very special oppotunity to watch them from the pontoon in front of the parade, which was great! I think my usual annual position on the Esplade was shut off because of that cinema thing anyway. As you say, would be better to get all the other stuff done first before re-doing that shot. I hate it when things go that badly wrong, I usually have to re-attempt them too! At least the 35 and 36 are coming on nicely now. It's good the timetable's so bad if you get what I mean, with the short journeys to/from Calbourne meaning you can get two different shots in a short space of time.
I see you've got the 32 in Crossfield Avenue which is good, you haven't got loads of photos of the new school being per chance have you...? It's a shame they haven't returned to the "old" 32, the new 27 one is terrible as I'm sure I've said before. They've not even retimed it to give it more time - when it always runs late!!! A shame they couldn't put it back into Crossfield Avenue estate, making all the old people walk to the main road just so the bus could just about get round in 27 minutes was really harsh. Not that many Crossfield Avenue people seem to use it anymore, after all, why would you when the return journey goes via Gurnard and Northwood... Arriva436/talk/contribs 20:31, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
It's good you took your fireworks photos from a different location, that way when I upload mine they'll be at a different angle and more interesting. On that subject, as we've both got a number of fireworks photos to upload, do you think it would be better to upload yours as something like "File:Cowes Week 2011 firework display from Cowes Parade pontoon.JPG" (or something like that anyway!), then I can put mine up as "File:Cowes Week 2011 firework display from Cowes Princes Green.JPG" and it will avoid having your final photos as "File:Cowes Week 2011 firework display 31.JPG" (or however many), with my first fireworks ones being "File:Cowes Week 2011 firework display 32.JPG" which could be misleading as it wouldn't imply it's the end of the display.. If that makes sense. I only got two photos of the building works at the new school, both from gaps in the hedge on Crossfield Avenue, but shows the work that's going on quite well. Editor5807speak 21:43, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Additionally, I've just added a recycling points section to User:Editor5807/IW Council cuts 2011. I don't think they'll all disappear, but I have no idea which ones will and which won't, so I've put them all down for now and crossed off Havenstreet as I did that today. I don't think we should go out of our way to get them, just if we're passing, and having them recorded will help see what has and hasn't been done. As I said on the page, I've heard some Ventnor town councillors say the recycling banks should go, and no doubt other town and parish councils will consider the same thing with all the cuts... Editor5807speak
Yes, that naming plan sounds like a good idea. Sorry about last year, I should have renamed mine to match your naming, but there was so many I didn't bother! Oh good re the school, as I got loads of photos, both through gaps and over the hedge, so hopefully we won't have too many duplicates.
That's good, I've crossed off the ones I did. It's nice to get them anyway to capture the general way of life. I spotted one in Ningwood on the way to Yarmouth, but forgot to go in on the way back - ooops! Arriva436/talk/contribs 11:15, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
