Yemen

[edit]

Hi. Please read there. K!lluminati is a pov pusher. He had also problem with bluehypercane and another user. He used the discussion to have pov pushing and he used pro-Houthi source and said it is neutral. This POV - pusher will not tell me what the POV pushing . In our case , it was neutral sources, so needless to relay the propaganda of both sides. I refuse to use the pro- government source . Please, do no edit the map before have a deal to edit it without “21sept” : [1] who is the houthi propaganda. For Aden, ISIL have never have territory in Aden but there are fightenning but the fightenings are finish. For AQAP, they lost all their territory in Mansourah in Aden. Please make map with Aden in red. I couldn’t edit the map in .svg. --Panam2014 (talk) 19:02, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yup, I'll wait with the next edit around wether the Houthis or Hadi-troops hold a town until there is a solution in the discussion. As for Aden I probably won't be able to update the situation before friday, I'm busy with my examen. See you, --Ermanarich (talk) 22:08, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey my friend. How the things doing? Good i hope. You have to change the Zinjibar. This town is still on AQAP control. The Saudi coalition raid in Zinjibar repealed. Read the news in web. See You---User:Tiseptiko 28 April 2016

Thank you very much! :) I can tell you, this map was a incredible bunch of work. If you wonder why I didn't take it to the Wikipedia articles yet, that's because I'm not completely happy with it, yet. The oil icons of the Kurds for example look very strange in the .png preview and aside from that I also want to make a better description.--Ermanarich (talk) 02:32, 4 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

You seem to be right. But the problem was that anyone could think that it was a recent ISIS advance (that is what we all believe when a map is updated). I don't know if someone else is aware of this, but if it's for me you can revert my edit as I didn't find any source that says that the SAA controls that territory.--Andres arg (talk) 01:17, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Second Libyan Civil War Map

Hi! It seems like Ras Lanuf and Brega are now under control of LNA, and Zuweitina is contested.

I've just read it and I thought you might be interested! Best regards and thank you for your awesome map!--Bespin (talk) 11:57, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much, I'll include it into the map today.--Ermanarich (talk) 14:23, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi! If you want to update the map, here are some important territorial changes:
Sirte is no longer contested, Nofaliyah is under the control of LNA and Brak al-Shati Airport as well. Also, I would change Jufra Airbase to dark green (Salvation Government), as it seems to be controlled mainly by Benghazi Defense Brigades, which are linked to cleric Sadek al-Ghariani (anti-GNA).
I wish I could do it myself, but unfortunately, I don't know how. Thank you so much for your attention. Best regards --Bespin (talk) 11:59, 10 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'll include it in the map today. Thanks for contributing the information!
About learning how to edit maps, I'll post a little instruction on your talk page. And no worries, I started just like you, that's now about a year ago.

Hello, could you take some time to update Libyan Civil War map when you'll have free time?

[edit]

I've seen a lot has changed over last 6-7 months and the map wasn't updated. Examples include: capture of Sokna, Waddan (including oil fields to east of it), As Shwayrif by LNA (House of Representatives). They also hold sparsely inhabited area north of Ubari, while in Ubari itself situation hasn't changed. Fuqaha and Sultan also captured by LNA.

Decided to write to you, because I've noticed you were the one previously updating the map, thank you very much if you'll take your time to update it.

Libyan Civil War Map updates

[edit]

Hi. Can you please update the Libyan Civil War map? A lot has changed since the last update many months ago (e.g. al-Qaeda only holds limited territory in Benghazi and Derna, and the Tobruk-based Government has recaptured a lot of territory in the western Libyan countryside). Thanks. LightandDark2000 (talk) 07:29, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

ISIS pocket in the central desert

[edit]

Could you please review this discussion [2] and, based on the multiple sources, re-add the ISIS central desert pocket to the Syrian war map which was previously removed. The previous removal was made by an editor based on the general Syria-Iraq-Lebanon map (which is contrary to Wikipedia's policy of using itself as a source). The Syria-Iraq-Lebanon map has since then reinserted the pocket. Seems the most significant location held by ISIS in the area is the Doubayat gas field, properly marked as ISIS-held here [3]. Thanks in advance! EkoGraf (talk) 18:41, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Hi!

  • A detailed map showing the settlements like the one on Syria and Libya would be perfectly informative.
  • Thank you!

Thx for the kind words. The problem about copying something like the one in Syria is, that I need a basic template like there for it as well. I didn't collect all this information there alone, in fact I only transcribed it into a image format from the interactive template. There is one for Artsakh as well (w:Template:Nagorno-Karabakh conflict detailed map), but it's not very detailed or filled yet.--Ermanarich (talk) 22:01, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Map for Tigray conflict

[edit]

Hey, I want to make a map for the Tigray conflict like the one for Syria or Yemen, but I don't know how to do it, and I was wondering if you could tell me how. Wowzers122 (talk) 20:38, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey Wowzers122, I'm really sorry I've seen this just now, I'm not very active on Wikipedia currently. I've actually written a short guide on that because I got asked that before, I hope it helps:

so there are basically two different parts in map editing on Wikipedia.

[Idk if there's actually a template regarding the conflict; if not, you can scrap the whole module part] The first part is including the changes in the Modules (let's take the Libyan Civil War as example for this one: Module:Libyan Civil War detailed map), where it's shown at the Templates (Template:Libyan Civil War detailed map) afterwards.

The advantage of the modules is, that marks for towns and other objects can be placed very exactly and it's very easy to trace the edit history.

The work at them is quite easy. You have for example this line:

	{ lat = "31.202", long = "16.582", mark = "80x80-lime-black-anim.gif", marksize = "14", label = "Sirte", label_size = "90", link = "Sirte", position = "top" },

The first two (lat and long) are for the coordinates. You only need this if you add a new mark. If you want to add a new mark, first search its position (best source is Geonames, Wikimapia also in some areas and openstreetmaps and google maps are also an option (although you mostly won't find the object you search by using google maps)). There, you can take the coordinates, and simply insert them { lat = "here", long = "and here",... .

The mark is about which symbol is shown on the Template afterwards. So if Sirte was freed from IS, you need to replace 80x80-lime-black-anim.gif with Dot green 0d0.svg, as an example. If you don't know the name of one symbol, scroll down at the template, you'll find them below the map.

And before saving your changes, don't forget to include your sources in the section called "edit summary".

That's the point for the modules and templates. Second part are the maps shown at the Wikipages in the end.

Here I have to mention, that I only edit SVG and not PNG-maps. However, I have an older instruction on how to create maps with Inkscape. I hope it will help:

First, you need Inkscape. This program is free available in the internet.

To download the svg-file, you need to open it in the Media Viewer and klick on the download symbol in the right edge and download the original file (other wise you'll have a png version of it).

The difference between svg and normal picture files is, that svg has clearly defined objects, which stay the same if you zoom. And no matter how much you zoom in. Also, their quality isn't dexreasing after a couple of edits.

The first thing you should do when you open the program should be to click at the strip at the upper side on the lock, which is at the right of the Y,X and B values. This makes, that you can increase or decrease objects without losing their original shape.

The marks on the maps are quite easy to edit. You simply copy and paste (ctrl+c, ctrl+v) them at the places you want them to be.

To change the colour of an object, you have to choose the pipette at the left side and click on the object from which you want to have the colour.

The second part is a bit more difficult.

To change the extent of the areas under the marks, you need to choose thing under the mouse pointer at the left side you use normally, where you can see something comparable to a mouse pointer with a line that has points on it.

When you took it, you see knots at the edges of the marked object. You can take and move them to change the object. The knots have some kind of extensions. If you change the lenght of them, you get different curves between the knots. Also, there are two different types of "extensions" (sorry I have really no clue how to call them correctly). The one creates a smooth curve and makes the other extension move too, if you move the other one. The other one creates edges and has the two extensions independent from each other.

If you look at the same strip you found the lock before, there are now some other options. Here, you can change your knots from being edgy or smooth, etc.

One important thing I almost forgot: You can remove knots per clicking delete, and add new with holding your mouse pointer over the border of the object and make a double-klick.

Now you're almost through. A thing which is good to know remains: The objects are bedded over each other. If you want to have one object over/under another, you need to klick picture up/down at your keyboard. Pos1 makes your object the hightest of all, end the deepest.

And if you want to remove your latest edits, this can be done fastly per ctrl+z.

I think that's it for now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)

(Little thing: text editing is another thing, but you shouldn't need that for now; when you need to know about it, ask again)

Regards, Ermanarich (talk) 02:14, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. You know just before you responded to me I had made my own map of the current situation crazy. Wowzers122 (talk) 02:49, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also, this is my first time using a Wikipedia talk page, so forgive me as I couldn't find how to leave a comment in the Syrian Civil War section specifically. Dodolulupepe (talk) 18:23, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey Dodolulupepe, so as it's stated in the maps description, information for the map is entirely transferred from en:Template:Syrian Civil War detailed map, where the sources for changes are meticulously documented. I recommend looking there in the time frame you mentioned, if you find a mention of Dubayyat oil field.--Ermanarich (talk) 16:30, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ermanarich, how do you download the data from template / module map as an SVG file? AlMahra67 (talk) 21:58, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's not possible as far as I know. When I made updates, I took a screenshot and layed it between the layers of territorial control and villages/towns. After implementing the changes, I removed it again and changed the territorial control accordingly. Hope that helps. :) --Ermanarich (talk) 22:51, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for noting. However, information for the map is only taken from here en:Template:Syrian Civil War detailed map, if you want to see changes, they have to be made there first, because it's easier to document.
