A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Lyperanthus suaveolens.jpg, has been reviewed by an administrator or reviewer and found available on Flickr under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. Unless the Flickr user changes the license to one that Wikimedia Commons accepts, the file will be speedily deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. Once the license on Flickr is changed, you may replace the {{Unfree Flickr file}} tag with {{Flickrreview}} so that an administrator or reviewer can review the image again.

Myoporum et al.[edit]

Hi Gderrin,

Thanks for your message about Myoporum oppositifolium, I am happy to see that you could use the photo! I have just added two more photos of another WA Myoporum species (M. tetrandrum) to my gallery and some photos of other Myrtaceae (Darwinia spp, Agonis flexuosa). Verticordia nitens and Eucalyptus macrocarpa are uploaded too. I have some more photos of different Verticordia, Beaufortia and Calothamnus species (all photos taken between Perth and Albany about a year ago) - but I don't know the exact species (only the genus) and I therefore didn't upload the photos (as yet). If you would like to have these photos, just let me know.

This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Balanophora coralliformis.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Balanophora coralliformis.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

This message was added automatically by MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner), if you need some help about it, please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ? ->Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 02:32, 2 May 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image problems[edit]

Many of your uploads have false licences. You changed then from what is on the source pages to licences we accept. This is not allowed and is why I have tagged several for deletion because they are copyright violations. I have only gone back as far a July 10 and I suspect some others are also incorrectly licenced. We do not accept images with commercial (NC) or derivative (ND) restrictions or "all right reserved". Some of the images come from http://images.ala.org.au but there is no source information just the image, so we cannot even check the copyright status of such images. Please always link to the page the image is displayed on that has the details and not just the plain image page. I suggest you review you uploads and tag those that are obvious copyright violations as such so they can be deleted because it is a very tedious job reviewing so many images manually. Thanks for your cooperation and some nice images but unfortunately you have wasted some of your time uploading the bad ones. In future I suggest you please add the {{LicenseReview}} template to all images except to your own photos and any Flickr images you might upload. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 16:04, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ww2censor Sorry to have caused problems for you. I will work through all my uploads to make sure they conform. Some have the attribution "by-nc/4.0" (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/). Are they allowed? ("Yes" or "no" will do.) Gderrin (talk) 22:20, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As mentioned above, no ND and no NC are allowed. Sorry it's frustrating to find and upload images and then have them deleted. If you like to make a list and post it on this page I can then help you get them dealt with. Just ping me.
I notice (below) that Daphne Lantier, as admin, has also seen the problem with the http://images.ala.org.au images that maybe you can sort out as I think they are actually freely licensed for us to keep but we need to see the licensing permission page. If I have time I'll review some more and hope to find most are good to keep. this particular section of the main licensing page may also help you Commons:Licensing#Well-known licenses. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 22:30, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ww2censor Thanks again for your help. I'm working through all the Pterostylis images - Caladenia next, but came across (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pterostylis_trullifolia.jpg). It has been reviewed as correctly licensed, but maybe not? (I've taken it off the Wikipedia page.) Gderrin (talk) 02:45, 25 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I reviewed that one and BY is ok. Thanks for asking. BTW {{ping|user name}} work fine with less typing. Ww2censor (talk) 09:32, 25 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Gderrin, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Pterostylis puberula.jpg

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

And also:

Yours sincerely, Sealle (talk) 05:11, 25 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Uploading derivative works[edit]

Hello, I saw that you uploaded File:Pterostylis barbata (labelled).001.jpg without attributing the original photographer or linking to the original file. I've added the correct information. In the future, it's important that you do this yourself so we comply with the license requirements. And it's always good to give credit where credit is due. There's a tool to facilitate this, derivativeFX. You can also use the {{Derived from}} template. Guanaco (talk) 15:20, 6 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Also, please add {{License review}} on images you upload, if they're taken from other websites. In case the site goes down or changes its license, this allows us to create a record that the file was available under that license in the past. Guanaco (talk) 15:23, 6 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @Guanaco: Thanks for that. I will add {{Derived from}} over the next 2 days. ✓ Done Thanks also for the enormous amount of work you do. Gderrin (talk) 00:18, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File:Zieria odorifera habit.jpg[edit]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Zieria odorifera habit.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

@Guanaco: I confess to being confused about why this file (File:Zieria murphyi.jpg) as well as File:Zieria odorifera habit.jpg and File:Zieria odorifera.jpg have been deleted when many others I have copied from the same site http://bie.ala.org.au such as File:Zieria obcordata.jpg have been given a satisfactory license review. All images on the "bie.ala" site have a "creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/au/" license. My apologies for my earlier embarrassing, unwitting sins and thanks for your tireless work. Gderrin (talk) 00:42, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Within the "Image Properties" section there's a license field. Usually it's blank or says Creative Commons Attribution, but in those cases it said Attribution-NonCommercial. It's easy to miss. Possibly it's just old metadata, and the files are free, but with contradictory information we have to delete. Guanaco (talk) 08:44, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's pretty clear to me that the Attribution-NonCommercial applied before the image was uploaded to http://bie.ala.org.au in 2011 (when it was copyrighted by the Australian National Botanic Gardens). All the images on http://bie.ala.org.au are licensed Creative Commons Attribution. Doesn't matter anyway. I've been out in the bush and taken better photographs of Z. odorifera, today some of which I will post to http://bie.ala.org.au Gderrin (talk) 05:06, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Eucalyptus leptophylla and Eucalyptus foecunda[edit]

Location?[edit]

Hi Gderrin - I appreciate Eucalyptus globulus is native in Tasmania, but the specimens in File:Eucalyptus globulus globulus.jpg are clearly in a heavily human-altered situation, and thus very likely planted, rather than growing naturally (as also suggested by other planted trees in the photo like Araucaria heterophylla). That's why I'd put it in the non-native subcategory. Do you still think it would be best in the main species category? I'll be happy with whatever you think best on this. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 00:52, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @MPF: , Thanks for the message. You are right - there are many cultivated plants around the Port Arthur World Heriatge site, but Murray Fagg, who took the photo, is usually in the habit of saying when the images he takes are of cultivated specimens or in an arboretum, for example. I also think there is a difference between "non-native" and "not growing naturally". I think the Category:Eucalyptus globulus is the right one. I also noticed that you moved some images of other E. globulus subspecies to a subspecies page (eg. Eucalyptus globulus subsp. maidenii). Agree with that, and thanks for your work. Should there be a category Eucalyptus globulus subsp. globulus? I'll leave that one to you. Gderrin (talk) 01:47, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! I'll leave creating a category for the nominate subspecies for now at least, there's not really enough pics yet to justify it (hint: get out there with your camera :-)) (hope there's some left after all those fires!); the other subspecies cats had already been made by others (and I only moved those pics where the subspecies was named in the filename; I'm not expert enough on Eucalyptus ID to verify them myself). Reminder to myself though, I never finished going through all the pics to move out all the non-natives, must get round to it sometime . . . the big quick bulk move was all those Starr pics from Hawaii. MPF (talk) 12:32, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And doing now; what do you think of File:Eucalyptus globulus (15345093875).jpg and File:Eucalyptus globulus (15345095225).jpg, cultivated in Barcelona, please? I don't think they are E. globulus at all (small, clustered flowerbuds aren't right), tho' I've left them in the non-native subcat for now - MPF (talk) 13:12, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPF: Yes, the fires are bad but the drought is worse. Those trees that aren't burned are producing very few flowers. Those two images are definitely not E. globulus. I'm not clever enough to say what they are without seeing bark and fruit, but E. globulus buds are "turbinate" (spinning top-shaped), "shortly umbonate" (rounded knob on the top) and "glaucous" (white-waxy). (File:Gippsland blue gum (3437798254).jpg) Perhaps they were mislabelled in the Spanish botanic garden. All the best to you. Gderrin (talk) 21:16, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Excellent, thanks! I've renamed the two above :-) Hope you get some good rain soon! MPF (talk) 23:24, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @Oronsay: That's a new one on me. Part of the reason it happened is that the previous file did not have appropriate categories. I think it is possible to merge the two files. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Duplicate image[edit]

I just discovered that the image you uploaded, File:Prostanthera ferricola.jpg, is a duplicate of File:Prost.ferricola-atlas-1.jpg. The latter includes coordinates. I'm hoping you will be able to sort this out without too much trouble. Oronsay (talk) 21:25, 31 August 2020 (UTC) ✓ Done Gderrin (talk) 22:20, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We need your feedback![edit]

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Daviesia acicularis 2.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:Daviesia acicularis 2.jpg[edit]

Commons-emblem-issue.svg
File:Daviesia acicularis 2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
