OTRS permissions[edit]

Hi, I see you brought me to the 'user problems' notice board without notifying me. That's not good practice. Anyway, I noticed that you, as a self proclaimed 'experienced OTRS volunteer', are accepting permissions from the depicted person, even mentioning them to be the author, where the real author and copyright holder of course is the photographer. I will be away for the next few weeks. Please resolve those cases in the meantime. Jcb (talk) 23:07, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Jcb: I pinged you in the notice board the same as I ping you now. why do you say that I did not notified you?
There an OTRS permission that came directly from Dudi Hasson. If you look carefuly you can see -> From: Dudi Hasson [mailto:dudihasson@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 9:57 AM To: Perry Kafri Subject: Re: FW: Yael wiki picture permission.
I am sorry that I have to go to the 'notice board'. But I felt that there is no way I can convince you to re open the DR. Hanay (talk) 04:52, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hanay, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Since your talk page was vandalised a couple of times by dynamic IP-adresses I decided to semi protect your talk page for a short time. If you disagree please let me know.

And now I also protected your userpage. If you want me to undo this pretection please let me know. Natuur12 (talk) 13:34, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Natuur12: Thank you for protecting my pages. I know who is doing it. This is someone that was declared as a troll in He:wiki. she can not edit in any wikimedia project. She did it also in meta here She did the same to User:Matanya. I think it would be better if you can extend the protection for a week. Thank you again. Hanay (talk)
I changed the duration of the protection to 1 week. Thanks for the info. Natuur12 (talk) 14:28, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ein Gedi questions[edit]

Hello Hanay, user Talmoryair send me to you. Maybe you can help me with these questions about "nature reserve/national park/antiquities national park/nature park/or possible other protected areas" at Ein Gedi?

The background why i'm asking is that i'm sorting Commons images of (nature) protection areas of many countries. So i do not need to know many details, only the basics :) But with hewiki articles I'm completely lost (language barrier).

Additionally to the questions on Talmoryair's talk page: How are the different Ein Gedi protected sites actually named? (i think especially enwiki has things/terms often messed up, so they might be wrong) Is maybe one site part of the other (like the nature reserve part of the national park), or are they at different locations? And is the "Ein Gedi antiquities national park" as named on enwiki (an archaeological site?) the same as the "Ein Gedi national park" (nature conservation site)? Holger1959 (talk) 17:51, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Holger1959, What we have is: "Ein Gedi national park". This park include also "Antique National Park Ein Gedi". Part of the park are several archaeologicl sits:
  1. The ancient synagogue at Ein Gedi
  2. Chalcolithic Temple of Ein Gedi
  3. Tel Goren
You can read in english En Gedi Nature Reserve and National Park at the site of "Israel Nature and Parks Authority". I hope that I helped you. Hanay (talk) 18:20, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
thank you very much! now it is more clear. Holger1959 (talk) 18:26, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neukoln (talk) 19:30, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hanay (talk) 02:53, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I very much like this photograph. Do you have by any chance a photograph of the dam or power plant of Kossou Dam? --NearEMPTiness (talk) 05:54, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NearEMPTiness thank you. I also like this picture I hope that the users that decide in Commons:Wiki Loves Africa will love it too
I found 2 pictures they are not very good. I almost went to jail for those pictures. The The local commander that was in charge demond that I will give him my camera because I took some pictures without getting his permission. What he realy wanted is money. It was crazy, my camera cost more than 3,000 Shekel it is about 500,000 Frank. I refused to give it to him. I deleted the picture that I took, but he demond the film......
I later took some pictures from the car with my mobile phone I will upload them. You can find part of the dam in the right side of the other picture. Hanay (talk) 04:02, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See Category:Kossou dam. Hanay (talk) 04:41, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Could you please give your opinion on this DR? It is rather impossible to close this DR properly without a comment from someone who speaks Hebrew. Thanks in advance! Natuur12 (talk) 21:13, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Natuur12, Thank you for the turning to me. I would appreciate more notices when pictures from Israel are nominate for deletion. I was astonished to find Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Israel. This is not the way to nominate pictures for deletion. What is the conection between File:Israel Gate at Church of the Pater Noster, Israel (8269491222).jpg and File:גלרית קדם.jpg? except that there are both was taken in Israel? why not open Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:United States? or Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:world. I think that administrators in Commons should close immediatly such a bulk of deletion requests. I tag also user:Geagea and User:Matanya. Also User:Alan Liefting that seem to like to nominate many pictures from Israel for deletion. Thanks. Hanay (talk) 05:35, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yes those DR's are problematic and it took a lot of time to sort it out. While some of them are really out of scope most just need to be cleaned up. It was discussed at an/u a couple of times. Most of the red links are from files already deleted by Geagea as part of a clean-up btw. Perhaps you find User:SteinsplitterBot/DR/hewiki interesting. And thanks for the reply at the DR :). I am sorry, but the area Umm Junieh were the place where the first settlment of Degania Alef start the kibbuz, and the area still beloge to Degania Alef. You should read the article in Hebrew wikipedia here/ Use google translate. All the picture in the article is from the first settlment of Deganya Alef. I don´t read Hebrew, and Hebrew WP is not a WP:RS-source. But what you say does not agree with what scholars write: Karmon, 1960, p. 167 writes that Jacotin´s Umm Junieh was at Degania B. Grootkerk, 2000. pp. 332-334 says that Degania A was Umm al-Kanatir, Degania B was by the ruined bridge Jisr es Sidd. And Jisr es Sidd was besides Umm Junieh. Please look at the old Jacotin and SWP-maps. Huldra (talk) 21:14, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All the pictures in Category:Um Juni are from the area that belong to Degania Alef. Deganya B is sitting near by. There nothing there from the arab vilge Umm Junieh. ThIs is the name of this place in Israel. Hanay (talk) 16:52, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I see that in Degania Alef. I also see that it has no source, which makes it pretty worthless. Please look at some maps, say, the British Mandate 1940´s maps, where "Kh. Umm Juna" was printed just besides Degania Bet. How do you explain that? I´m pinging User:Zero0000, who knows much more about maps, than me, Huldra (talk) 21:44, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure exactly what the dispute is here, but if you want to see a precise geographical layout go here and look at map "20-23 21-23". I'm not 100% sure that "Kh. Umm Juna" is where the village Umm Juna was located when Deganiya was formed, but it seems to match the location shown on the PEF map. From this we can see that neither D(a) nor D(b) was located exactly on the ruins of UJ, but both are quite close with D(b) the closest. This tract of land was commonly called "Umm Juni lands" when both places were founded. Shilony's book "Ideology and Settlement" has many pages on this. Zero0000 (talk) 00:43, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The first hut from 1910 of Degania Alef at Umm Junieh
Umm Junieh Heritage Sites sign telling the story of the first settlment of Degania Alef

There are many sources in Hebrew for this information, but you refused to use google translate to read them. This is a multilanguage project and I am not obligated to bring source in English. Here some:

  1. An article in newspaper Haaretz that telling the celebration of 100 years to Degania Alef by restoration the first hut in Umm Junieh. See here
  2. A page in Degania web site that telling the story of the first settlment in Umm Junieh.See here
  3. I have at my home the book "hundred years of Degania. This is of course a hard copy. and this is also a legitimate source in Wikipedia
  4. I found also a source in English in the book "Reshaping Palestine: From Muhammad Ali to the British Mandate, 1831-1922" pages 100-101. Pay attention that the name of the kibbutz or Kvutzah Degania belong to Degania Alef. until to day in Israel when people mention Degania they usually do not say Degania Alef, but just Degania. When they refer to Degania Bet they always say the full name.
  5. Another source in English Berl: The Biography of a Socialist Zionist: Berl Katznelson 1887-1944 pages 36-37

The area that called Umm Junieh is in the south part of Degania Alef and there are Palm plantations that belong to Degania Alef between Umm Junieh and the houses of Degania Alef. Umm Junieh is sitting to the west of Degania Bet, physically closer to Degania Bet but the area do not belong to Degania Bet. Maybe Karmon was confused because of it. See here in google map

I visited the site several time, and the only way to go to Umm Junieh is through the gate of Degania Alef. There is a fence between the area of Umm Junieh and Degania Bet.

The area of Umm Junieh with the famous first hut is recognized as an Heritage Site of Degania Alef by the Council for conservation of Heritage Sites in Israel. All the pictures in the category are from the Heritage Site and part of Degania Alef. In Israel when we use the name Umm Junieh we refer only to this place. I ping some Israeli editors that read Hebrew. I am sure that they will say to you the same.User:MathKnightת User:דוד שי, User:DGtal, User:Neukoln, User:Geagea. Hanay (talk) 16:10, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The first settlers of Degania (a) lived in the huts of Umm Junieh for a few years and then moved to the new site. Later Degania (b) was founded at a location closer to the site of Umm Junieh. So despite D(b) being closer, it is D(a) that can be said to displace/replace Umm Junieh. Meanwhile, there are some things missing from both the English and Hebrew wikis:
  • (a) The circumstances of the founding of Degania (b) are not explained. Usually having two places of the same name results from an ideological dispute. What explains it this time?
  • (b) The 1952 Yearbook of Israel has a list of all settlements. Deganya (b) has 21.9.1920 as its founding date; ok. Deganya (a) has founding date 1.12.1949. Why? Some part of the history is missing.
Zero0000 (talk) 10:17, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Deganya (a) in Hebrew דגניה א was founded on 1910 not on 1.12.1949. On 1912 they moved from the site that was called Um juni to the north closer to the Sea of Galilee, but they kept the ownership of the area that called Um Juni and they still own it. They celebrated 100 years on 2010. See on youtube here
en:Degania Bet in Hebrew דגניה ב, was a new Kibbutz with new settlers that settled near by on 1920. They used the same name because of lack of imagination no other reason.
Later on a another new group start a settlment near by. They called themself Degania Gimel (דגניה ג) en:Gimel is the third letter in Hebrew. But they moved to Jezreel Valley and change their name to en:Ginegar. lucy for us Hanay (talk) 11:45, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
User:Zero0000 good afternoon. Umm Juni is located within the boundaries of Degania Alef. You are more than welcome to visit the place , as I have many times. there is no doubt about its current location, it is well documented. Thus, as for the category, it should be under Degania Alef not Degania_Bet, because it is simply not there. Regards Assayas (talk) 12:12, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as the the google map (and every other map) shows, Umm Juni is closer to Degania Bet, than to Degania Alef. If you say it presently *belongs* to Degania Alef, then I have no reason to doubt it. It does not change the fact, that historically, it is Degania Bet that is the continuation of the Palestinian village of Umm Juni, not Degania Alef, Huldra (talk) 14:14, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Huldra, That what I said from the beginning. This area was always belong to Degania Alef. not only presently. The pictures in the category are from the area of Degania Alef. By the way an effendi family that originated was from persia, was the owner of the area. The arabs that lived their were their workers and tenancy. The family sold the land in 1905 to the Jewish Colonization Association, and the land was given on 1910 to a group of people that settled the first kibbutz named it Degania - ten years later the name was changed to Degania Alef. Hanay (talk) 16:51, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hana asserstion is backed by various sources (most of them in Hebrew) and it still belongs to Degania Alef. MathKnight (Talk) 17:30, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hana, you don´t seem to get what I´m saying. And that is that Degania Bet that is the continuation of the Palestinian village of Umm Juni, not Degania Alef, Huldra (talk) 20:48, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra: , everyone gets what you are saying; it is you who doesn't. Umm Junieh's land was sold to Jewish organisations who gave it to Degania (A). Never to B. It never was and still isn't owned, worked, or settled by Degania Bet. The topographic vicinity of Bet has no relevance whatsoever, kibbutzim hold plots of land close & far from their residential area. Bet is no "continuation" of anything. You might claim that of the initial kvutza that gave birth to Degania (Alef). What's there too hard to grasp? You started a fight with the wrong set of Zionist pioneers, it's Alef, not Bet, what do you care? Reality always beats armchair map reading. photograph of Gideon Levy[edit]

Dear Hanay:

I am writing to request permission to use your photograph [1] of Gideon Levy in a Canadian documentary video I am making because Mr. Levy is quoted by one of the speakers. Since your photograph is released with a Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike license, and my video will be released on YouTube with only a Creative Commons Attribution license, I would need your permission before I can include it. If you agree, I would also wish to know how you want to be credited, and if you wish the link text I use to go to your own blog or photo site rather than Wikimedia Commons. I hope to be finished editing soon, so I would very much appreciate an answer either way at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your consideration. I would prefer a response in email [ laurel.l@russwurm.org ], but I will check back here as well.

Laurelrusswurm, recently User Hanay is not active. Anyway you alredy have the answer to your qustion in the file itself. The attribution is required: Hanay‏, Cc-by-sa-3.0. -- Geagea (talk) 00:37, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am capable of both reading and understanding the license Hanay has chosen to use, thanks. Since cc by-sa is indeed the Wikimedia default, I've no doubt many users have not given a thought to the license terms they have agreed to. Either way, it doesn't actually matter. Just as permission for normally restricted use may be granted by the owner of a copyright-all-rights-reserved work, permissions outside the scope of a license can always be granted by a copyright owner who has chosen to license her work. Because I am scrupulous about copyright, I would not use her image without the requisite permission, but there is no harm in asking. Hanay is, of course, free to ignore my request. However, as you are not User Hanay, unless she has granted you ownership of her copyright, it is not your call to make.

Laurelrusswurm (talk) 01:37, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is the point in the whole of this project. Everybody can use files in commons under the condition mentioned in the files detail. And I can insure you that user Hanay fully understand the implication of the license. Future permission is not required but probably user Hanay will be glad if you infom her about the use of the file. -- Geagea (talk) 01:57, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chalcolithic[edit]

Actually chalcolithic and copper age are literally the same. --Joostik (talk) 17:33, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Joostik, The name "copper age" is not in used by the archaeologists in Israel and I am sure it is also not in used in the Middle east. I do not know what about other areas. Hanay (talk) 18:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Its not important what name they use. The point is that it has the exact same meaning. Copper age is just the more popular name for the more fancy sounding chalcolithic age. You could of course rename the whole category copper age to chalcolithic, if you think that sounds more scientific. But then Wikipedia is written for non-specialists, for whom a term like copper age is more understandable. --Joostik (talk) 18:26, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry but we are writing encyclopedia. See the name of the article Chalcolithic in English Wiki, also fr:Chalcolithique and more. I am not familiar with the term that it is used in other area. I have no problem if the the whole category copper age wiil be renamed. @Geagea: what do you think? Hanay (talk) 19:50, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert. According to he.wiki it's התקופה הכלקוליתית (Chalcolithique). Also en.wiki and fr.wiki. But de.wiki (Kupfersteinzeit) and sv.wiki (Kopparålder) prefers Copper Age. Not sure if Copper Age in correct as it should be (again I'm not an expert) Copper and Stone Age. Anyway, Joostik if you think it's worth feel free to nominate category for discussion. -- Geagea (talk) 21:05, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Chalcolithic = Aeneolithic = Copper Stone Age = Copper Age for short. The en.wiki uses Chalcolithic, personaly I would prefer Copper Age because its more readily understandable for the average reader. But whatever name one decides on, it should be one category. --Joostik (talk) 22:34, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I said we are writing encyclopedia. This is not a popularity contest. That why I made the Chalcolithic age as sub category to Coper age. THis is an old fashion term. The same as we use to day the term Neolithic not " New Stone Age". Hanay (talk) 23:00, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello,

In File:Dubbing films in Europe.png, could you translate this new legend into Hebrew? The original uploader from Israel is no longer active in Wikimedia Commons, hence I could not ask this to him or her.

Belgium: The Flemish speaking region occasionally produces its own dialect dubbing versions, otherwise solely subtitles. The French speaking region of Wallonia and the German speaking region of East Belgium use exclusively a full-cast dubbing, both for films and for TV series.

And could you add the Hebrew translation in brackets (Belarus and Slovakia) after the sentence in the violet colored legend?

Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries[edit]

Hello.

Can you add South Sudan in the maps File:Hippopotamuses Map Range Hebrew.png, File:African continent WW2 He.jpg, File:AfricaandME WW2 He.jpg, File:Blue nile map-HE.png, File:Hippo distribution-he.gif, File:Unified Combatant Commands map he.svg, File:Swahili-HE.svg as well as in other maps in Hebrew where it is missing (and then remove the Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries after updating them)? Or can you send my request to he.wiki graphic lab?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files, now it is reduced to less than 750 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps and complicated PNG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Thank you.

You may either add the required information or, if you think that required information is already given, put the image up for a deletion request so that it won't automatically be deleted. Thank you.

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Study shows Wiki Love Africa recruitment makes a difference[edit]

Hello Hanay

We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !

This year WLA partnered with the research organization CAT Lab (previously CivilServant) to help us evaluate the effectiveness of one of our recruitment efforts. You may or may not have received a message on your user talk page encouraging you to participate again in this year's competition.

We are excited to share with you their study found our recruitment message was a success and may have resulted in as many as 2,000 additional contributed photos. We hope you agree this is great news for Africa and its representation across Wikimedia. You can read more about the study and the results in this blog post.

If you have any questions about the study, we encourage you to ask CAT Lab's research manager Juliakamin(cs).
