Redundant cat sorting

Re: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Steilacoom,_WA_-_former_rail_station_%26_ferry_terminal.jpg&curid=9839204&diff=67436462&oldid=65793565&rcid=68636418

Perhaps you are unaware: it would normally sort by its title. All you've effectively done here is to prevent the rest of the title past 'Steilacoom' being used in the sort. Was that really your intention? - Jmabel ! talk 01:27, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Just fixing the sorting order, that was all. Got carried away, I think. You are right, of course. I need to be more observent in the future, thanks for letting me know! Changes reverted. --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 04:14, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Mass Deletion Requests

Hi, Hallo, I saw your requests for "Tony T Luh Tony T" and if you want to save time you might use Help:VisualFileChange to create mass deletion requests that are about the uploads of a particular user or files in a category that should be deleted for the same reason. If something does not work as expected or if you have questions concerning this tool, don't hesitate to ask me. BTW, in User:Hedwig in Washington/monobook.js, there is some very old code that is superseded by gadget quick delete. Sincerely -- RE rillke questions? 12:03, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Danke sehr! :-) LG --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 18:55, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Daimler

Hi HiW, I just made an edit without leaving an explanation/summary. The category Daimler Sovereign is a subset of Daimler Motor Company Vehicles so I have deleted the duplication. Cheers, Eddaido (talk) 08:28, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Files of Pilar_Calvo.jpg and Esteban_de_Manuel.jpg

I have found an URL link of Pilar_Calvo.jpg (http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/equus/2012/2/21/las-primarias-deciden-encabezar-lista-autonomica-equo) with an explanation about the CC license: "Fuente de las imágenes: http://www.equova.org, bajo su licencia Creative Commons 3.0, y la página de EQUO en Facebook" ("Images source: http://www.equova.org, under Creative Commons 3.0 license and the EQUO page in Facebook"). The file of Esteban_de_Manuel can be delated because I hace located a new picture of him with CC license.--EQUOeditor (talk) 13:07, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

The first URL states all rights reserved
That makes the picture a copyright violation.
The second URL doesn't show CC 3.0 as far as I can tell, my spanish level is about 0. :( If the first webpage (elapis.com) copied the image from equova.org and they use CC-License, the image is more than welcome here. But the proof is on you.
Same with the second picture. If it is licensed under CC 3.0 you have to put a direkt link to that statement. Otherwise there is a fairly high probability the image will be deleted.
Hope it helps. :) --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 21:11, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, right.--D vsquez (talk) 01:55, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

I've changed the URL of Pilar_Calvo.jpg: http://www.equova.org/2012/02/las-primarias-dan-la-victoria-a-pilar-calvo-para-encabezar-la-lista-autonomica-de-equo/ Now this picture has CC 3.0; look down at the right side of the page. I hope all is right.--EQUOeditor (talk) 15:04, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Yuuuuup, that is perfect! :) I changed the author to www.equo.org, makes it a little easier for folks like me who don't know what equo is. Do you think you could add some categories to the picture so other people can find and use it? If you don't know how and where and what, just drop me a line and tell me what election that is and where and you know.... ;-)) But try it first, please. I'll have a look at it if you like. --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 18:36, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Hallo Hedwig,

AtelierMonpli (talk) 22:44, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

File:Porto collage Logo 2010 compact.jpg

Moin Hedwig :)

  1. Album Cover, daher no permission.
  2. Gerendete Architekten / Designerzeichnung. Sowas ist in 99.999999% aller Faelle unfrei. Haette auch copyvio setzen koennen, haette wohl besser gepasst.
  3. Scan eines Fotos. Das ist kein own work, Quelle/Urheber fehlt. Raritaet oder nicht, nicht ausdruecklich frei = unfrei.
  4. Stimmt, no source fuehrt zum gleichen Ergebnis.

:) --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 00:34, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

mach was du willst.

2 hat own work als Quelle.

  1. Band angeschrieben und um CC Freigabe gebeten. (info@portoflamingo.it)
  2. Braucht keinen Beweis fuer, sondern gegen(!) copyvio. Schreibst Du E&Y an?
  4. hat jetzt no source tag.

8-)) Tasse Kaffee brauch :) --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 23:48, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello!

I looked the article you asked for. It talks about a local soccer team, I suppose a team in which he plays. It mentions the name of the players (no one has articles on es.wiki); contains three useless fotos: File:Fc 20-5 azul.jpg, File:Fc20demayo.jpg and File:Fc2052.jpg. It's a "look and throw to garbage" article. Greetings, --Cobalttempestwrite me something 14:52, 16 April 2012 (UTC) PD: Sorry for my bad English.

- (Google Translate) Hello, I've seen that has requested the deletion of several of the files I uploaded (all). That worries me most is LogodePanorama.png file, I have placed the respective source and its author, the image is used in the Spanish Wikipedia article Diario Panorama. --George Miquilena (talk) 01:37, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Hola! The logos are out of scope. There is no description showing that the two logos could be useful on commons. Remember: We collect media for educational use. The other images are without proper license and you claim authorship for images you haven't taken. You need to show the source, the author, and permission to use the images. Usage of images in articles is not a criteria, you need to follow the copyright guidelines. See, if you took a great photo and I would use it to make money - you would be mad at me. :-) I know it is a little difficult sometimes. To be on the safe side, take the images yourself and upload them here. Please have a look here: COM:L/es, COM:D, and Commons:Primeros pasos/Selección de licencia. Hope it helps! You don't have to translate, my browser does that for me. --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 01:49, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Esso Maracaibo: Venciclopedia.com is not an acceptable source. It is user generated content. The image page doesn't show how took the picture, only the uploader.
Maracaibo en los 60's: There is no author anywhere. You are too young to have taken this photo in the 1960's. Yes, you published it on your historypin page. That doesn't mean you have permission to do so. You HAVE to ask the author of the image for permission. Sorry, I hate to tell you this. I'd love to have the ship and the photo from the 60's here on commons. --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?)

This section was archived on a request by: Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 00:40, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello! There still seems to be a problem with arwiki and the template assessments. Is your bot tagging files from arwiki on commons? --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 03:01, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, my bot doesn't tag individual images. Something as non-controversial as deprecating an unused template has been quite a problem so I do not think this is a good idea at this point. If however you can convince people that this is indeed an improvement for commons, I can order my bot to tag the images regularly.
Why is it controversial? It is just a tag that shows that an image is reconized as valuable on a local wiki. That's my understanding. Ppl. from arwiki would like to set the tag automatically, so there's no need for handy work. :) If you could let the bot run over arwiki, too? If you don't want to take the heat :) I would do it, but I'd have to make a bot first. :) --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 01:46, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I honestly do not know why it is controversial, I was not told this. I'd be willing to help and I don't mind the heat should that be the case.
I can handle the task of tagging featured images on ar.wikipedia on commons. My bot currently does not handle this. We can file a case at Commons:Bots/Requests and the issue if approved there would cause little friction. Would you be willing to help me with that?
10:11, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Absolutely! I'll put Commons:Bots/Requests back on my watchlist. --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 22:18, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Up! v0.2 beta

Hi Hedwig in Washington, hope you're well! I've got a new version of Up!, and could use some help testing it if you're interested. I'm curious to see if that bug you experienced with v0.1 is still hiding there. Let me know what you think! -FASTILY (TALK) 04:59, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Upload works! :) Categories not :( --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 05:08, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
That's unfortunate :/ I think it has to do with the encoding changing from UTF-8, to system default, and then back to UTF-8 when it is posted to the wmf servers; I'm guessing this happens somewhere in the main library code. I'll try to replicate it. Nonetheless, it's good to hear that the upload bug is gone :] -FASTILY (TALK) 05:20, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Might be the category? It had commas and spaces in it. Runs like clockwork... :-)) --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 05:24, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
It's possible actually, we actually had that bug awhile ago, but I can't remember if it was fixed >:( I just tried uploading a few test files with the category Category:Fastily Test, and it worked fine :o If it's not too much trouble, would you mind answering a few more questions/doing a few more tests? Could you try uploading several more photos to a category without commas? What OS and language settings are you using? What do you think of the new GUI interface? -FASTILY (TALK) 05:51, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Yup, worked just fine. :) This (wikipedia only) :) machine runs on XP, EN and DE language settings. I like the new interface better. The folder selection seems to work faster as well. The only thing that bugs me is that Up doesn't remember me. With my long username (I was young and needed the money) I have to hit a lot of keys. :) Does Up works around when someone enters a new filename with .jpg? Btw: A setting for the size of the interface would be nice. --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 06:09, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
FYI: Category Fox Island (Washington) worked fine. --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 06:46, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I think that indicates that its definitely not a language setting. I'm glad to hear that you like the new interface; I was worried for a moment that I was the only one who liked it :P. That's a good idea - I'll add a settings file to my todo list for Up. The diff filename field doesn't take extensions, you simply enter the base you want the files in the folder to be uploaded as (e.g. "Cute kittens"). Up! automatically observes file extensions and is able to upload all Commons-compatiable files (regardless of extension) under that title to Commons (i.e. If you have Photo1.jpg and Image.png in a folder, and you specify "Rabbits" in the diff filename field, Up! will upload the files as Rabbits 0.jpg and Rabbits 1.png). The program's preferred size setting is dynamically calculated based on your screen's dimensions (e.g. 0.5 * height and 0.25 * width). I'm assuming the program doesn't initialize too well with smaller monitors? If so, I can adjust the ratios. -FASTILY (TALK) 07:26, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
I started a little list on the Up! page already. I probably find more things to tweak or complain about. ;-) What I mean is, someone types cutekittens.jpg into the file name box. Does Up! produce cutekittens.jpg.jpg? Screen size is 15 and 17 inch, both do the same crap. It's no big deal, just wanted to mention the little bug (probably caused by me). --Hedwig in Washington Canis lupis track.svg(Woof?) 01:54, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
