Thanks! I realize Commons doesn't have its own stewards, I was just confused to see this mentioned in the Commons administrators list. But I guess it becomes easier to look for a steward if one knows which users in Commons are also stewards in Meta ;) PatríciaR msg 13:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Vandal response[edit]

With apologies for making your page untidy! Could you tell me "where" you found the vandalism that you reported? Hate saying it - but I am familiar with the picture as it has been used on Wikibooks a few times. Purely curiosity but thanks too --Herby talk thyme 11:53, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I was browsing the wikiquote project and first noticed it near the bottom of the page for q:en:September 11, 2001 attacks, and then noticed that it was appearing on many other pages as well. I am still not sure why this was, exactly. I followed the link to the commons and posted an alert. ~ Rumour 03:17, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

To my fellow License Crusader[edit]

Protect those eyes while you're away; you'll need them when you get back ;)

I did indeed! I think GFDL/bn showed up for me. It helps when it comes to not worrying about deleting them, but yes I can think of reasons against. People will click a blue link thinking the license exists in their language, but get bumped back to the English one; rather annoying, but more importantly people don't see a red link telling them it needs to be translated into their language. We will get far less translations if people aren't aware we need them. The redlinks say "hey, I don't exist in your language yet, please translate me" while a blue link says "oh yes I exist, don't worry about me". Redlinks on licenses are GOOD, for once :) -- Editor at Largetalk 18:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

OIG! You're going to ITALY? Now I am exceedingly jealous. Yes, bring back pictures; of everything! Buildings roofs streets landscapes churches frescoes trees mountains you name it :p Unfortunately thanks to Italy's sad FOP you can't take pictures of new sculpture... but you can of old ones! Just be careful what you photograph (for Commons, at any rate), we've been seeing a lot of Italy-related images going up for deletion because of that. At any rate, enjoy your vacation (without me) in Italy (without me) and have fun (without me) and take lots of pictures! (without ME!?) -- Editor at Largetalk 16:12, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Question Regarding Reverts[edit]

I accept I come across as somewhat harsh in text, but I make a point to consider differing points of view. Recently several people have suggested (and defended) alternatives to what I've written - and I've conceded their suggestions are superior/more appropriate to my original comments. That's not to say I don't argue, but I will accept when I'm out of line. Anyway, why do you feel the need to keep re-adding comments on my pages?-- 06:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

As I cannot find the reverts you are referring to I am unable to comment. However if you were removing warning notices from your user talk page I will always revert that. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Info:Erich Ludendorff[edit]

Hi, I came across this page Info:Erich Ludendorff in the "uncategorised pages". This page seems to have nothing in it (on my screen at least), and has been like that for a while, yet it never showed up in the uncategorised pages section. So... the edit on 3 July did *something*, however, I don't know how to fix it. Can you help? thanks. Deadstar 12:28, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Nothing's changed since we last spoke - it's still on the list as being uncategorised. What type of page is an "info:" page anyways? Is it different from an ordinary gallery page? Should I bring this up at the helpdesk perhaps? Regards, Deadstar 08:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Someone's fixed it :) I still find that page a bit odd though, looking at it, there doesn't seem to be anything there, but when inserted somewhere (it seems to work as a template) text does show up. *shrugs* ah well. Yr msgs[edit]

Is there a rule abt it? Abt blocking users that delete unwanted msgs on the own discussion page?
If there is not such a rule, I don´t it is fair. Besides, the warning talks abt unwanted native portuguese users/msgs. Any and all other warnings from native english users/msgs are welcomed. Is that Ok?
Yr template doesn´t make clear if you accept what I said: no msgs whithin other language, excpet english, is welcome. No portuguese/brazilian msgs will be welcomed. I do not welcome intimidation, intrusive behavior, bad and offensive words, or personal atacks, such as the phrase I cited.

And also, and very important I ´d like to have an open discussion, so anyone can understand --in english so to speak.

Yr warnings, msgs are welcome.
Do you intend not to respect what I said?

Do you intend not to respect what I said?

Do you intend not to respect what I said?

Do you intend not to respect what I said?
It seems you don´t. Anyway, I find much better to archive than delete, much faster and easier. So I can put aside unwanted and not welcomed msgs.
Hello Herby,

Tks for yr reply,I found yr msg. Ok, I will not delete, I found the "tag file" much easier to work with. Tks. After I generated the file, the admisnitrator again reverted --which, according to our deal (we agree to archive msgs is allowed) he again invaded my personal disc page and all msgs appeared. Iam sure this is not a correct adm behavior. Filomena 18:21, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

My interaction[edit]

Hello, AS I told you, I don´t "interact" with port/brazilian adms. I asked her why she didn´t warn the other adm not to revert archived msgs of my disc. page. SHe told me abt certain rules and I found them great, even easier to work with and better than deletion. I was surprised that after using this archiv option, someone again, reverted and all mgs were there again. I asked her and she said shw was going to bed. She still didn´t warn him, she still didn´t answer me and even was she herslf also agressive, saying she is not waitress, Im a child, etc. I think both of them are breaking rules --not me. Anyway, as you can see, I very seldom upload pic files or img files. This Simone case is finished since I will no longer ask simonecigarra (at to raise licences. Best regs,

I´d like to suggest you to pay attention to the fact that after I archive the page the other adm again reverted and msgs appeared again. I asked her to warn him not to do that, so this means breaking rules.
It´s not the case of gossip, but these adm don´t have a good reputation on the WP-PT. There are hundreds of people really tired of their behavior, intimidation, etc. I could tell many names, users, editors, adms. This is a WP problem: there is no one to complain. And this makes good editors tired and regret contributions, interactions, time spent, etc. Do you whether there is someone/place/e-mail where to complain?
Iam not bringing gossip from other WPs; Again if you are concern with Commons and its rules, I think maybe you should warn the adm not to revert archived msgs. That´s why I´d rather maintain a contact with non port/braz. Iam sure there will be no problem. I find yr interaction with me very good, polite, decent, and professional.

Best rgds,

Maybe this makes it clearer:
He reverted once again, after I agree with archive proceedure. I will not delete, but I will archive. After theis agreement this :adm broke the rule/agreement and reverterd once again. Sorry, but yhis looks extremely unprofessional.
I find it a disrespect to me, to you, to the other adm, to whom I asked to warn him, as I received "I am going to bed, Iam no waitress" answer.
I don´t understand: didn´t we agree no t delete msgs? If we made thsi agreement and simply archive, why did he reverteded? I think my will should be the "last word", after I decide to archive,it should remain like this, am I correct? I hope I am, otherwise, there is no nedd of an agreement.
Second: I have no problem to accept she is going to bed, as it is obvious, Iam talking abt her lack of answer and lack of warning to the other adm. It sounds very agressive to say: Iam no waitress.
That´s why I´d rathe not have contact, seem to be very revolting and unprofessional behavior. As for the fact that, as far as I could see, they are adms --which Commons should reconsider.
I think IAm very clear. I hope yr consciousness can understand that. I very seldom upload img/pic files, so you won´t see me very soon. Tks for yr time!
Filomena 12:22, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

1. The licensing of your uploads is at best questionable.
As for Simone´s pics, as I already said several times, "simonecigarra" ( login) said he had all licences; anyway I deleted from the article;
2. You removed warnings that were recent repeatedly.
No, I removed those from port/braz. adms only; since we agree to archive and not delete; which is easier; as you can see there is a new warning, from an english speaker, it will remain there, no problem, although file was already deleted;
3. The tone of your postings was unhelpful.
No, I don´t agree. I explained everything;
4. Your page was archived extremely quickly.
I don´t understand. Sould be slow?
5. There is still no link to that archive.
Yes, there is: close to the signature, (fi); as for a lay out matter, I fond it looks better.
It is not unreasonable to say I will no longer upload files
not unreasononable to archive msgs fromport/braz. adms; (1)
the speed of the archive action was due to not welcomed or unwanted msgs (not repeatedly); (2)
I hope you understand thta when someone is not pelased and is welcomed with range and indtimidatio i alos not reasonable;
the size of the link is as big or as important as an agressive and unprofessional behavior;
You will no longer see uploads;

Image deletion warning Image:Tinfoilhat.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

The clarification on "professionally active" as asked here. I don't see what is not "clear" about those words: professionally active = active in a profession. I simply asked that because any real life experience in business, should make it clear that same concerns should be handled together; for both effiency and clarity. If not, that's an issue to be improved in a business' internal procedure. Note: this has nothing to do with the original discussion anymore, but as you asked. Hi Herby. I have a problem with the contributions of a user. I have an inkling this might be a one-time sockpuppet of this other user. Although professing to be a native English speaker, his use of English and his mistakes are very similar to that of the other user. Moreover, he exhibits an identical voting pattern. If it was only the language I would never have noticed of course, but the possible vote rigging may invalidate some of those elections. Are my suspicions justifiable or am I seeing ghosts? Deletion of image[edit]

RE: Deletion requests/Image:IED team killed by premature explosion.jpg

My understanding is that you deleted this image within three days of notifying me via my talk page that it was up for deletion.

Please direct me to the policy document that states that images that are "shock" images are grounds for immediate deletion. Also please direct me to some guidelines describing when an image is or is not a shock image.

I heartily agree that Commons shouldn't become a magnet for those interested in shocking or lurid images. However, sometimes reality is in fact unpalatable. IED's are intended to maim and terrify, and this particular image does illustrate what effect an IED has on a human body.

Regarding the legality of the image- it was taken by an employee of the US government while carrying out their official duties. If someone wants to suggest that this picture was taken by a soldier during their recreation period, they are free to make the assertion.

The source of the image was fully cited, indicating this status. As you will see from the 780 odd images that I have uploaded, no other image can be considerred as having "shock" or lurid content, so there are no grounds for assuming any nefarious intent was involved in this matter.

Excessive haste was excercized in this case, and I propose that the image be re-uploaded and that the matter recieve a fair hearing.

Thank you. The deletion request discussion was closed, so I will remove the delete tag from the image page. If someone still feels it should be deleted, it ought to be resubmitted so consideration of it gets a fair hearing. -Mak 16:00, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Talking to other users[edit]

I don't know if you've noticed, but i have long history fighting FSHL's bad SVG's. I have warned him many times by saying that it all may lead to deleting all of them So I am quite happy that other users felt same - by voting and deleting his works --Ntrno 16:13, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your many efforts in informing FSHL and the community of the error of FSHL's ways. I am sorry that his SVG images were not freely usable here, and I hope he finds a host for them.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs|Administrator nom) 17:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I have come to you directly since you were involved some time ago with the Monarchy (talk · contribs) anti-Gibraltar edits. The user has continued with the 'Gibraltar (Spain)' and even re-uploaded the map of the British overseas territories with 'Gibraltar (Espana/Spain)' after having been warned. I hope you can help sort this mess out, thanks in advance -- RedCoat 18:09, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey Herby - thanks for your kind message on my page (again!), it made me smile :). As for not being around so much, ah you know real life gets in the way sometimes... hope all is ok with you too & that you will enjoy your pending holiday!

Question - do you know why the "Incomplete deletion requests" now has thumbnails showing rather than just the names of the images? The page is now a pain to load + I am in a public space and cannot be looking at any "inappropriate" stuff, which is almost unavoidable now. Was there a discussion on this somewhere? I checked a few places (VP/Admin board) but couldn't find it?

Thanks Deadstar 08:21, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

...Ah, pfctdayelise spotted what I hadn't -- namely that the top text had been deleted by someone... it's all back it's usual self now :) Thanks for your message & will think about it. Deadstar 12:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Blocked templates[edit]

...I believe the wikilawyer at User talk:Mama Krabs just proved the point of not adding such templates Face-wink.svg Finn Rindahl 09:33, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Hum - I'm going to stop and think before responding to this one - indeed I think I'll pass the buck to the admin board here. However my thanks for the heads up (and your inputs elsewhere - they are appreciated). As to blocked templates I really am unsure, when I arrived on Books I did not agree with it but mostly these folk are well aware of what is likely to happen to them. My views on inappropriate edits has changed over time - quite a few "test" type ones I don't even warn now, they are simply "tests" - quite distinct from vandalism. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 09:49, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the appreciation, I'm mostly messing around trying to figure this project out ;) Anyway, I wouldn't waste much time on this one, some clever kid who loves wasting our time in unorthodox ways [6]... If it was possible to decline an unblock without sysop-rights I would have done so promptly and never looked back. For the sake of formality I'll ask my goto man to look into it, let's leave it at that. I notified you just because I thought you'd like to share the laugh, this is wikilawyering on an WP:LAME level IMO. Regards, Finn Rindahl 13:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. As I tend to block one or two people I also tend to get quite a few unblock requests - they can be quite entertaining...! I guess my only doubt was that the one appealing had not actually vandalised anything yet (assuming you believe they are separate entities - the evidence I had would make that unlikely!).
This place - I like Commons - some great people, wonderful pictures and the multi cultural, multi lingual aspects remind me of my inadequacies often :-). Stick around and have fun - cheers --Herby talk thyme 13:22, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I have now contacted all admins who hadn't signed by email (10), and a few users on their native Wikipedia (4). I have not contacted 8 users who had not set their emails/accepted emails. One of those has claimed to not be active on Commons anyways (user:Water Bottle), and two are developers (brion and Aevar) and I would like to exempt them from the policy because they presumably work with the software anyways. Is it reasonable, what do you think?

For the other five, I will not make other attempts for contact, as I am not required by the policy to do so.

I think de-adminship requests could start on September 15. There would be some 19 de-adminship (or 17 if Brion and Aevar are exempt). It is however possible that further admins sign the list before that date.

I am also considering an exempt-list for people that are working a lot with the mediawiki and toolserver and are thus not inactive. I am now mainly thinking of user:Duesentrieb but there could be others. It still seems reasonable to ask them every five months if they still need the tools, but I do not want to require them to do five admin actions per five months if they are already doing useful things for Commons.

Please give me your thoughts,
Fred J 13:34, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Another thought. Many of the deadmined users have messages on their userpages saying they are admins. Maybe it would make sense to have some sort of top notice (next to the title of the page) for all admins that comes with {{user admin}}? Because while I don't want to edit the text of someone's userpage, I would be willing to remove a template sort of {{user admin}}.

He made that our work on making good feeling of Commons in is totally wasted!

--WarX 14:11, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

You mean that it is easier to scape goat someone from Commons instead of one of the pl.wikipedia community for bringing images to Commons without proper sources? Or maybe it is easier to scape goat a Commons user than a pl.wikipedia admin who deleted images on pl.wikipedia that were not properly sourced on Commons? You tell me. You're on a very slippery slope. Cheers! Siebrand 14:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Islamophobia / "racism" nonsense[edit]

Whatever, it's User:Liftarn who is maliciously expanding the scope of the problem by continually adding "Category:Racism" to more and more images and categories, even though, he's very aware of the fact that this is highly controversial and disputed, and has resulted in him being referred to the Administrators' Noticeboard. Steps should be taken to rein in his activities on this matter (which verge on intentional deliberate trolling) if you want to end this pseudo-"controversy". AnonMoos 14:48, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Merci Acarpentier 22:21, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Bonjour.
Acarpentier 15:03, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Herbythyme, here is my analysis of Acarpentier's concerns. Above is a discussion ("Socks?") that proves that Acarpentier used sock-puppetry (or something similar, it's not that important since the purpose was the same). Acarpentier has opposed to many FPC proposed by User:Mbz1 and, in retaliation, Mbz1 is constantly putting links to the above discussion, recalling to everyone that Acarpentier used sock-puppets in the past. Examples :

Acarpentier is not focusing on Mbz1 images, he has voted (supported and opposed) to FPC from other users as well. He has opposed to most, if not all, FPC from Mbz1 but his objections seem relevant. On the contrary, Mbz1 reactions to his votes are mostly irrelevant since he keep focusing on past sock-puppetry. Acarpentier is now asking you to remove the above discussion so that Mbz1 can no longer put links in FPC debates. Finally, he asks you how to deal with such personal conflicts. I answered him that these discussions may soon be archived by you and I redirected him to COM:AN/U in order to attract admins attention to Mbz1 incivility. — Xavier, 11:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

    • It's exactly what I mean, thanks for helping me. My english may confuse people sometime. Acarpentier 14:54, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
      • I do not do anything in retaliation. I simply do not care about FP so much. It was me, who first voted to oppose Acarpentier imagehere for sockpuppet. After this Acarpentier retaliated by opposing all my images, which is fine with me (I mean who cares). He oppossed 7 images all together, 5 of which were mine and 2 others, which I supported, and now he is complaining that I'm retaliating! You said his objections seem relevant? One of the images he objected got FP status today, but ir really does not matter. Tell you what, if Acarpentier supported my image, I would have crossed his support out. I'm not interested in getting supports from sockpuppet. I'm not sure how it could be incivil to call black black or to call white white or to call sock-puppetry sock-puppetry. In my opinion user Acarpentier should have been blocked for good.I'm very much against removing any links that proove user Acarpentier is a sockpuppet.--Mbz1 16:33, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
        • I don't really know what can I do in order to solve this incomprehension. Will I have to create a new username so that Mbz1 stop attacking me? And to be honest I'm afraid to do so because again I may be accused of this thing called sock-puppetry (wich include multiple user on the same ip). For now I'm following the suggestion in the Wikipedia:No_personal_attacks guide and have stop interacting with Mbz1 but I wonder even if I do, the user will have good faith in the future. What do you suggest? Acarpentier 05:28, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
          • Mbz1 has promised here not to respond to any of your comments in the future, as well as not commenting on your contributions. If you would follow the same principle regarding Mbz1's contributions, at least for the time being, that would be most helpful. Finn Rindahl 09:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
            • I'm happy that he chooses to stop attacking me. Ok, so I would like to thank you all and excuse me for this conflict. I would have preferred that this case don’t take this turn, seriously I feel like I was part of a kinder garden. So thanks again to Herbythyme, Xavier and the other admin that have positively helped my case. You have demonstrated a good sense of judgement. I’ve you would run for president, I would vote for you ;) --Acarpentier 19:42, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello,Herbythyme. I'm afraid you cannot revert my edits on my talk own talk page per WP:USER, so I would appreciate, if you would no do it in a feature. I'd like to let you know that I delete many messages from my talk page, including ones with FP promotion notifications, so please do not take it personally.
I also like to tell you that in my opinion one does not have to know any French to realize that user Acarpentier contibutions cannot be called "a good faith editing" in any way (I'm not talking about his opposing of my images). I posted comment about this at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Attention. I hope you will find the time to read it, click at the links I provided and read the contests of the links too. In my opinion neither you nor user Xhienne have done an "excellent research" of this matter at all. As a matter of fact I believe the research was rather a bad one. You said: "I will keep an eye from now on". Please do, I really like, when somebody keeps an eye on what I'm doing on Wikipedia because without it, it is getting boring sometimes. Best regards and please have a very nice day.--Mbz1 19:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not going to nominate another image on commons FP ever again, I', not going to nominate another image on commons quality ever again, I'm not going to comment on any image nominated by any one ever again. I guess you could relax now and have a time to do one more of your "fair" and "balanced" research/report and then I stop contributing my images to commons all together for good. Please have a nice day--Mbz1 11:51, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Please help[edit]

Hello,Herbythyme. I've decided I need to clean up some of the mess I've created by uploading so many images to commons before I leave for good. Few of the images are duplicates. I know you are specialist in speedy deletion and I hope you could help me with this. Let's start with this image: 64px. It is a duplicate of 64px. They are exactly the same, only the second one was processed in photo shop, while the first one is original. So, could you please speedy delete the image and, could I ask you about the same kind of help for few more images? Please respond at your talk page. Thank you.--Mbz1 14:12, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Sent you one :). CO2 16:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC) adminship[edit]

Herby, based on the precedent of Samulili's RfA would you be interested in having a go at obtaining adminship? The benefit for your Commons work is obvious in terms of checking deleted images on that were transfered here and your work on cross-project vandalism would benefit from your having the mop on another Wiki. I can't vouch for the outcome, but I'd definitely be willing to nominate you if you were interested. WjBscribe 00:04, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Herby. You have protected Catalunya after reverting the last edit by Kurrop84. In my opinion, you shouldn't have undone their edit because currently, the page is politically biased ("Catalonia is a nation ocupated by Spain and France." in spanish and english). "Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain" would clearly be more neutral and would match w:Catalonia. Could you consider re-reverting Kurrop84's last edit? Thanks. — Xavier, 17:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I personnally am not familiar enough with Spain to decide or advise whether Catalunya should refer to the "autonomous community of Spain" or to the "historic territory" which is much wider. If Commons has to follow en:WP, which I believe, then the former should be chosen. Else, I can go back in the page history and retrieve older definitions, tell me. Amusingly (should I say pathetically?) I can find signs of this edit war at least two years from now!). Regards. — Xavier, 17:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

re: Tupto[edit]

Hey, that's almost definitely Roitr - he's rather infamous for disruptive editing on Russian military articles over on en and seems to be using Commons to upload lots of military insignia which were speedily deleted at en. If there is doubt perhaps you could ask Lar (is there anyone else with en and Commons CU access?) to have a look? Cheers, ~ Riana 18:52, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

GFDL Issue[edit]

Hi Herby,

How you doing? Hope you are well. I've run a little unstuck with something over at wikibooks and am looking for some help. As you are a commons administrator I thought that you might know a thing or two abut licensing.

What is about to follow is a tad long, so if you have any trouble reading it or if ive said something daft, get back to me and i'll try and redo it.

As you may have seen there is an ongoing effort to bring the b:The Guide for Electronic Theses and Dissertations book onto wikibooks from the UNESCO. I was wondering if you could help me with this. UNESCO (the copyright holders) have expressed a desire in allowing wikibooks to use the book. However for the book to be permittable on the project, as you know, it must be licensed under the GFDL. After reading through many policy pages there doesn't seem to be a clear single message on how to do it. I really just need to know what we need the UNESCO to do/say in order to move the book over to the GFDL and where/to who they need to say it. Is an email to myself or one of the other users adequate or are there official channels it would need to go through. Or even something completely different. Darklama expressed the idea that we might be able to get them to post on their website that the license was as such, though i am unsure whether or not that would be adequate.

Please respond, either here or at my wikibooks talk page.

I wrote to you here as i know you are more active on the commons project.

Thanks again, Urbane 20:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. It's good hearing from you. Wikibooks certainly seems quieter without you around.
If the UNESCO was unable to alter the page on which the book is hosted, how would the OTRS system work? Would a UNESCO representative have to submit a ticket. If so how would they do that?
Sorry that I'm being so exhaustive in my questions, I'm only acting as a proxy to a proxy and so i need to be as clear as is possible to prevent any conflicts and misunderstandings.

From Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, thanks for the revert on my user page. I'm an admin on Wikipedia. This is a carryover from a harassment block on Wikipedia.w:User talk: Rklawton 12:14, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your comments; regardless if I am allowed to access the delete privs now or later (if ever :) ), I appreciate your advice. I'm so up to my eyeballs in en:wiki overhead that I am somewhat leery of jumping into another project's overhead, but you're correct; I should contribute more to commons than just OTRS image tagging if I am requesting admin status. Also, I did flesh out my userpage a tad more. Thanks again. -- Avi 14:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. As Majorly said, it should not be too hard to amass 200 edits, and I agree I should have done that first, if nothing else but out of respect for the project. As an aside, did you see that issue about you being mistaken for Kirbytime on en:WP:ANI? -- Avi 22:16, 28 October 2007 (UTC) -- Avi 14:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
My pleasure. A question for you if I may. I will likely hit 200 edits sometime this week. Is it too soon to reopen the request—should I give the commons more time to get to know me, as it were? Or, having met the requirements, would it be proper to re-nominate myself so quickly. What do you suggest? Thank you. -- Avi 15:06, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Once again, thanks. -- Avi 15:16, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Figured that was the case, they can be a pain and those "Template:GFDL/xx" pages are created all the time, not surprising you accidentally ran into the PD-user/lang one and thought it was another vandal creation. Good thing I noticed the red link and happened to be on a PD-user licensed image at the time ;) -- Editor at Largetalk 09:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Heh, nice edit summary here. However, the anon's edit there should be oversighted, since it contains a phone number. Unfortunately, I don't know who to contact for oversight at Commons. Could you assist? Nishkid64 (talk) 16:06, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. That's good enough. :) Nishkid64 (talk) 18:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. There's an ongoing mediation at en:Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Northern Ireland flag usage about the flag. The flag is contentious and has no official standing, so it's best to clarify that if possible for the benefit of well, every other language Wiki apart from the English one. Proclaiming it as simply the "Flag of Northern Ireland" is very misleading, but if you can tighten up the description feel free. One Night In Hackney 17:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Herby, you previously took part in discussion on this page. Please consider having another look over it now. We especially need input on the items listed at the end of the page. thanks, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 05:20, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

My talk page[edit]

Hello, Herbythyme, I'd like to let you know that I have restored all warnings on my talk page. I wanted to restore everything, but I was not sure how to do it, so I've restored warnings only. I hope this is satisfactory. I also like to tell you that I'm sorry for my behavior.--Mbz1 13:13, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

problem with user using sockpuppets to upload images with false licenses[edit]

Hello. There was a user on the English Wikipedia who was banned and was known for using sockpuppets there to upload images with false licenses. His profile can be found here. You can check his contributions there and see that he did infact upload the same type of images with false licenses since he was caught and they were removed. He is now very active here on Commons. He has several sockpuppets, and I would like to do a checkeruser. The puppeteer is User:Executioner. And I suspect he has so many sockpuppets I don't even know where to begin. We can start with User: PRTkand (who's name is strikingly similar to the NisarKand on the En Wiki and the images he has uploaded are same type of images, usually of Pashtun personalities). I am not as familiar with Commons, Can you please assist me with this? -- Le Behnam 11:51, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

We have a page for CU requests, COM:RFCU, would you consider making your request there so we can track it better? It's not used as much as the one on en:wp but it is useful. Your request does seem like it needs investigating. ++Lar: t/c 12:39, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

hey - hope all is well. Thanks for that protection thing there the other day... still learning how things work! Another question: How do you get stuff like the "permission" on Image:Johnny Contardo's press photo head shot.JPG into an official OTRS ticket? Or is it enough to leave it as it is now? I come across it every so often, and well-meaning people's email addresses are just waiting to be harvested... thanks. Deadstar (msg) 12:22, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Have left a message with Bryan who also has OTRS privileges :) Thanks! Deadstar (msg) 13:07, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for nominating me for adminship, mate! I'm officially in the crew now. :) Nishkid64 (talk) 20:49, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks[edit]

Herby, let me thank you again for your trust and support in this RfA. This was an honour which I'll try my best to deserve. Best regards. — Xavier, 21:29, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello! Since you are an administrator and already have a dialog with User:Le Behnam, can you please explain to him/her not to remove the multi-dated and multi-language images from Maps of Afghanistan.[8] Also, tell him/her not to over categorize images and avoid removing deletion tag when there is an open discussion on removing one of the images he/she has uploaded.[9] Thanks for your help.--Executioner 06:48, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

You had 4 duplicates of the same map! And secondly, stop trying to remove an image that I created and uploaded! -- Le Behnam 22:43, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

You should have one. Majorly (talk) 17:30, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
