Are you sure?

Hi, you reverted Special:Diff/617611082 on the grounds that this is commented out code. I understand it but I explicitly chose to also fix commented out codes because soon (in a month ish) we will remove those importScriptURI and other deprecated calls and after that, if you uncomment any of those, they won't work.

I understand if you still don't want to keep it that way. Just giving a heads up on the removals in case you didn't know. Amir (talk) 08:30, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

@Ladsgroup: Hi. Yes, I am sure. I chose to keep those calls commented out for my historical purposes. I have no plans to uncomment them.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:13, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Can you take a look

Hi Jeff, can you take a look at these? IMO they should be deleted because out of scope. Thank you foryour time. Lotje (talk) 13:03, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Maybe these are related. Lotje (talk) 13:06, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: Images tagged, users reported at m:srg#Global lock for JAMAL ALQAYDI et al.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:00, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Jeff, do you think User:Persfotograaf-Vlaanderen is a violation to add to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention as *Template:User-uaa? Violation of the username policy as a promotional username. Looking at the contents of the userpage, I would say yes. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 15:58, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: Not enwiki because the user has not edited enwiki. Here and nlwiki could work, or maybe Meta.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:08, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
thanks Jeff, you saved me from doing something very stupid. I contacted this user on his userpage instead. :-) Lotje (talk) 16:13, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: You're welcome, the enwiki Admins are very firm on the "didn't edit here, nothing we can do here" party line.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:18, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Re:Repost on ANU

I'm sorry about that. I copypasted that diff to report this sock with similar name but I forgot to change the name from 'Leonthis' to 'Leotheis'. --Bankster (talk) 15:05, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

@Bankster: Thanks, I made a new report with a new sig.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jeff G! May I request a license review of this file that I imported from Flickr two(?) Sundays ago. Thanks, JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 18:01, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

@JWilz12345: ✓ Done.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:21, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Bug or feature?

Hi Jeff, you know a lot, did I miss something? I was surprised when I just stumbled upon Category:IPhone. Are lowercase pagenames now allowed on Commons or is it a misbehavior of the pagemoving engine? Best, Achim55 (talk) 19:11, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

@Achim: That appears to be a hack that prefixes the lowercase "i" but is actually Unicode character en:Zero-width non-joiner. Pinging @أحمدمحمدرمضانسعيد, who used it in this case.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:55, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
Ah, that's the way it's done, I didn't have a closer look. That's annoying as now on other projects (I accidentally noticed it on de:wp) people start 'fixing' their templates/links that point here. Cheers, Achim55 (talk) 08:28, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I moved all of them back. Best, Achim55 (talk) 12:56, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
@Achim55: Ok, but just know that I am not a fan of forced uppercasing for initial letters.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:07, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
Well, I'm not, too, but we cannot force others to fix their bots just because of someone having added invisible chars to page titles just for cosmetical reasons. See also phab:T44807, I just deleted Category:‌Behtash Fariba for being a dupe of Category:Behtash Fariba. --Achim55 (talk) 13:25, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Yeah...

Lua error in Module:Artwork at line 1485: attempt to get length of field '?' (a nil value).

Hello Jeff, do you have any idea where this Lua error originates? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 06:13, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: No, sorry, I don't. Pinging @Jarekt as Module Architect.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:11, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. on the File:Paola Vega Castillo-3.png you added the template {{Screenshot}}. If I understand it correctly, this is for non-free software. As I had clearly indicated, the screenshot was made using the open-source BigBlueButton. Could you please tell me how that is non-free software? Thank you, Bquast (talk) 07:40, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

@Bquast: That image was evidently a still from a video. Where did you get the video? What can you tell us about the name and lifetime of the videographer and the dates and countries of videography and publication? Please read COM:EVID.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:19, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
The screenshot was made by me. I was born 19870-03-13 in the Netherlands. The subject was in Costa Rica, I was in Geneva, Switzerland. I have obtained the subject's permission. I'll mention again that it was made using the open source BigBlueButton. Bquast (talk) 13:43, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
I read COM:EVID, I guess I should have indicated that I had the subjects permission. However, the software argument (under which it was deleted) I think was already adequately addressed in my remark on the page, or am I not understanding COM:EVID correctly? Bquast (talk) 14:30, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Your assistance with an issue please

Please see Commons:Deletion requests/File:La porallée en 1230.jpg. The issue is not the image, it's the user RAN who is leaving a lot of pointy notes to me on deletion nominations. I have been doing what I do for years now, and he's one of the few people who's engaged in any kind of trolling me, but I feel that's what is going on now. He has had several nasty turns of phrase, I called him on one of them on his talk page very politely. It has not stopped. Also Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Eliah Elie. He seems unaware that people who have been doing this longer recognize patterns on uploads and despite my very best attempts to explain it to him - it appears to make no difference. This is now the time when I ask someone with an obviously masculine name to step in and assist - as that is what I think is going on here. He has a filemover. He doesn't seem to understand about administrators and bureaucrats, but he certainly has opinions about how I should do things. I would really appreciate some help - petty bullying takes all the fun out of contributing to the project. Thanking you in advance. Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:06, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: Thanks for asking. I replied on the first mentioned DR.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:28, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

Qusta ibn Luqa

Hello, I'm requesting help about what we can do about File:Qusta ibn Luqa.jpg. That picture is not a picture of Qusta ibn Luqa, but a picture of Galenus. It's very misleading and I've put this discussion in the file talk page as well as the community pump, but I'm not sure what to do next. The picture is used in a few different language wikipedias, it's very misleading. Thanks Xn00bit (talk) 23:53, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

@Xn00bit: Why are you so sure that is Galenus?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:32, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
Please read File talk:Qusta ibn Luqa.jpg. The file is just a cropped version of File:Galenus.jpg. Xn00bit (talk) 11:47, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
@Xn00bit: Thanks.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:02, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Category redirect

I used Category redirect to correct the confusing wikidata:Q6432351 (Île de France) train name. It should be without (l') and with a (Î). The Île-de-France format is used for the French region. This name is very confusing: see search results with (Île de France) in Wikidata. Only de Italians stil use (l') it:TEE L'Île de France (and wikidata label), but I will leave this alone.Smiley.toerist (talk) 11:32, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

@Smiley.toerist: Thanks, that looks fine now.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:57, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Photos by WR

Hi Jeff, concerning the photos by Wolfgang Reich, I guess we're late now as the subst tag has changed into the one for deletion for the first ones, see eg here. The general permission has been sent a long time ago already... Thanks! --Subbass1 (talk) 17:44, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
