Hi. Are you still visiting New Orleans? Hope you've enjoyed the city. Thanks for the great pix! Red beans & ricely, Infrogmation (talk) 02:44, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Categories[edit]

A tip about Commons:Categories: Don't add categories like Category:National Register of Historic Places in Orleans Parish, Louisiana to individual photos like you did to File:ChicletsFactoryFigDanteJan2010.JPG when the photo is already in a category for the building shown along with other photos of it, in this case Category:American Chicle Company Building, New Orleans. Additional categories which would be relevant for ALL photos in the category, (like National Register of Historic Places in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, Brick buildings in New Orleans, etc) go on the category for the historic building. Thanks for your work and your attention. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 14:39, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

How do u find these free to use images, thanks Scribbley (talk) 15:49, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Denver Broncos pictures[edit]

I just saw your account linked to the one I was looking on Flickr and was wondering if you had already uploaded or planned on uploading these:

They are your images, so I can wait if you plan to upload them or have already, but if you don't mind I can upload them under the Flickr license you provided and you can change it later. Regards, — Moe ε 03:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I'll check before I do upload. I'll post here which ones I do upload as well. — Moe ε 17:58, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
You're right, you already did upload most of them. I just went ahead and did the two Peyton Manning pictures: File:Peyton Manning - Broncos.jpg (cropped to File:Peyton Manning (cropped).jpg) and File:Peyton Manning throwing.jpg. Since you made your recent uploads as cc-by-sa-3.0 I went ahead and presumed this was the license you wanted to use on your images. If you want to change anything on them, feel free, and thanks. — Moe ε 18:31, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,400 people (the most of any nation this year) contribute over 8,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate pages on various Wikimedia projects.

We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States! These photos are recognized for their photographic quality, artistic merit, and their encyclopedic value as illustrations of unique historical sites. We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret only being able to formally recognize the top 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other national contests, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 winners.

If you would like to view all the photos submitted for the U.S. this year, you may do so here.

Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all U.S. participants to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!

A quick thank you to our national jury, as well as Commons editors who have helped categorize and place photos for the event. And finally, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments and helping to preserve our history through photography - we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events!

Storm King Mountain image[edit]

Hi Jeffery - I wonder if you could provide the location point along the South Canyon Fire tourist trail that you took this excellent photo:

Storm King Mountain (Colorado)

Is it possible you could add that - and any other relevant information - into the Summary section for the image? Thanks in advance. CerroFerro (talk) 18:15, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Yes, actually, it's already there. Click on the coordinates right next to "camera location" just below the description. It will open a page with a bunch of links on it. You'll then probably want to select Google Maps. The coordinates are the location from where I shot the picture. Best wishes, Jeffrey Beall (talk) 23:34, 28 November 2018 (UTC).

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The coor points I've got, but do you recall the designated name for that point on the memorial trail? Was it at a trail marker? That's what I'm fishing for. CerroFerro (talk) 18:57, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

No, it was not a special or marked place on the trail. It was the point when I could no longer go any further and knew I had to turn around and walk back down. Jeffrey Beall (talk) 17:04, 9 December 2018 (UTC).

Antonio Brown[edit]

I would like to replace the photo of him in a Steelers uniform with a photo of him in a Raiders uniform. First of all, the page is locked, and second of all that is someone else’s photo on his profile so it might be wrong to replace it without advising the photographer. Rossidor (talk) 22:08, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

You don't need to ask for permission to replace a picture. For NFL players, the pictures are generally not replaced. Instead, the old picture is moved down (in this case, since the picture is from 2012, it would be moved down to the section called "2012 season.") Then the Raiders picture could be added to the infobox. Regarding the locked article, if you click on the lock, a page opens up that explains how to add content. There are several ways, including asking on the talk page. Good luck. Jeffrey Beall (talk) 23:10, 21 August 2019 (UTC).
