User talk:Jide~commonswiki
Hello!
Thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate category and optionally place the images on topic pages (galleries), or do both (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
Thank you.
And remember fair use license is not admited in wikicommons. This Image:300px-Galarina.jpg will be deleted. You can read more about permitted licenses here. Anna 02:09, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]Hello Jide, I've seen your contributions are maps. There's a main Category:Maps of countries, from it you can choose the correct country category, edit your image and add [[Category:Maps of xxx]] where xxx is the name of the country your map belongs to. Give it a try but if you have any problems let me know and I'll help you. Regards. Anna 02:23, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much for that map. I've been looking for something like that for a long time. --Flominator 17:29, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm happy to help you. Please let me know if you wich something else in the same style. Cheers, Jide 05:20, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm glad to hear that. Maybe you can help me out with something from the Lake Balaton? Please reply on my talk-page. --Flominator 13:52, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
DEM images
[edit]Hi, I have seen that you have created some images from DEM data. I'd like to create some maps, but I have no idea on how to work with the data. I (think I) downloaded some files from here of the SRTM mission, they're in .adf, .aux and .nit extension mainly, also some metadata in html format. Some time ago I also downloaded a file from their ftp server in .hgt extension. I hope all this sounds to you. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how to work with these files, or point me to any site which explains a little bit about al this. Merci beaucoup ;) Keta 22:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:DEM_Australia.png
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:DEM_Australia.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. odder 07:55, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Jide,
you have uploaded your image of Breitling Orbiter 3 over my image Image:Breitling Orbiter 3.jpg. I have reverted this, please upload your own image under another filename. Thank you. --Raymond Disc. 09:20, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, Image:EAfrica.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:Image:EAfrica.jpg]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jide. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jide~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

DEM has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
